Skaters And Goalies — NHL DFS (10/29)

This slate features just two games. First off, let’s remind everyone of the Votts media list and a few links to follow one more time.

When you are making your teams, one needs to make sure your goalie is actually confirmed and starting. Sites like Dailyfaceoff.com, Leftwinglock.com, and Goaliepost.com are great places for information. Another great source exists in team the form of team beat writers.  Jeff has created a list on Twitter @Votts_DFS  for all of the NHL teams, and a separate list of all the beat writers for you to follow, it’s a great tool and a necessity. The advanced stats that I use and reference in this article come from Corsica.hockey and naturalstattrick.com.

Full Schedule For Monday October 29th, 2018

Prices are in DraftKings format unless noted.

Skater Plays For Monday

High Priced Shots

Nazem Kadri ($6,200) — The recommended play here is reasonable given his price per point is so high and matchup. The only risk exists if Calgary can keep up with Toronto’s pace. Kadri moves up to the top power play and gets top six time at even strength. With Auston Matthews out tonight, Toronto’s prices inched down just enough. There is a lot of chalk on Monday night but with two games, one has to expect that. Kadri’s FanDuel price is downright attractive given his projection. He should be ranked even higher there. Power play unit one (Mitch Marner spotlight) makes for a nice train stack on Monday but if that is too expensive, there are other options.

Zach Parise ($6,500) — Parise’s early season floor has been consistent and Vancouver scares few teams aside from maybe one line. He has 11 points in just nine contests. Vancouver’s depth on forward and defense is a little questionable. This projects out to an elevated amount of chances expected. Matt Dumba becomes a play along with Parise’s linemates on this night. Watch at morning skate for any shifts and keep in mind news will come a little later because of venue.

Johnny Gaudreau ($6,900) — Gaudreau’s is the highest priced winger on the slate. Yes, he has no goals in his last three games, but has good shot volume in that span. Toronto can get sucked into a high-paced game against a top line which has been cratered themselves in the past three contests. Calgary must pick up the pace and that starts with the Gaudreau line. On a short slate, do not overthink too much and expect the unexpected.

Into The Middle

Brock Boeser ($4,900) — Boeser presents himself as a good choice especially at his DraftKings price. On other sites like FanDuel, he becomes less of a good value pivot. His speed kills along with his hands. Teams just have a hard time matching up with the space he creates. Minnesota allows a ton of chances on the road and Devan Dubnyk has been seeing the third most shots and chances per game there. Boeser fired three shots on net in his return against Pittsburgh and has a moderate probability of putting up above value production tonight. Elias Pettersson should be considered in stacks here also.

Kasperi Kapanen ($5,400) — It is acceptable to take some risks in this price range. Kapanen’s price point stabilized and so has his position on the Toronto top six for the most part. He still carries some value even though he could be higher owned tonight. His shot volume is right around three a game along with his chance rate. Calgary yields 3.55 goals per night which is the most on this slate. Furthermore, they allow the fifth most daily fantasy points to wingers. It is a small sample size but a road trend is establishing itself here.

Elias Lindholm ($4,800) — Lindholm offers a high-risk GPP choice here unlike some of the safer cash choices around his price range. It could be all or nothing. The Calgary forward has goals in two of his last three contests but is averaging just under two shots a night in his last seven. His minutes are around 20 a night, though. He makes for price relief (DraftKings wise) on a short slate where prices are elevated too much in several cases.

Throwing Some Darts

Brandon Sutter ($3,200) — Sutter is in a decent spot tonight against Minnesota. With so little value in this price range, risks are high everywhere. Sutter should draw against the bottom depth of Minnesota so chances should be there. It boils down to can the center hit the net. That has been an issue in the past several games (less than two shots per night). Accepting the risk averse nature of tonight’s slate is vital in succeeding with it.

Jonas Brodin ($3,400) — Extreme danger is afire here with Brodin but his floor is reasonable enough to consider. The idea in this rationale means being okay with taking a shot at a player who generates inconsistent offense. Brodin blocking four or five shots is not out of the question tonight and that alone equals value. With not having much to choose from the forward positions at this price range, Brodin elevates in projections. Call it lowered expectations.

Goading The Goalies

Again, our best bet with this slate is to simply wait for confirmations to come in.

Unfortunately, only Mike Smith was confirmed at press time, so current projected rankings are as follows (based on projected starters).

  1. Frederik Andersen
  2. Devan Dubnyk
  3. Mike Smith (extreme GPP risk)

Best of luck on Monday! This will be a crazy ride. More information comes later on slack and social media.
