2022 3M Open Longshot Golf Bets: Best Sleeper Picks & Predictions

Sure, the tournament after the Open Championship is never going to receive the same fanfare, nor have anywhere near the strength of field. But that doesn’t diminish the value – especially longshot value – at this year’s 3M Open. The tour heads back to TPC Twin Cities for a longer track that seems to benefit power and distance off the tee. Longer hitters have faired well here, and are a big element in building a ticket this week. Be it taking advantage of a field with fewer big names, or searching for more points before the FedEx Playoffs begin – there are a couple of strategies to implement this week. Let’s cash some tickets!

2022 3M Open Longshot Golf Bets, Picks & Predictions

Outright Winner Longshot Bet

There isn’t much on the stat sheet this year for a guy like Brendan Steele only because he’s seen limited action. In fact, if he simply played more golf this season his number may be cut in half at an event like this one. Still, in limited starts this year, Steele has been able to turn most into profit. He’s made the cut in 13 of 19 events played with four T-10s, including the PGA Championship. Playing winning golf isn’t normally conducive to playing less, but Steele has found a lane. Ranking 46th overall in Driving Distance and 21st on tour in GIR, Steele has enough distance off the tee combined with accuracy in his iron game to win. Playing a number at 40-1 for a guy who has put together strong performances – against tougher fields – is the move here.

Honorable Mention Outright Winner Longshot Bet

Don’t let the lack of true stardom on tour mislead the level of talent that currently sits atop of the betting board. Golfers like Tony Finau and Sungjae Im carry plenty of weight, as do guys having standout seasons like Adam Hadwin and Sahith Theegala. All are important names on this new PGA tour, but all are beatable – mainly when applying course history and familiarity. Brice Garnett has that and more here. In just three years of tournament play there isn’t a large sample size, but Garnett is one of eight players to make the cut every time. In fact, Garnett and Finau are the only current players in the field to finish top-30 in each of the last three years. Garnett joins just seven other golfers to finish T-25 in multiple tries. He seems to truly enjoy this course, and 130-1 doesn’t reflect his recent level of success at Twin Cities.

Longshot Outright Winner Bet: Brice Garnett (+13000, DraftKings)

Despite the thinner field at the top there is still an even-money play on a younger golfer who is just waiting to breakthrough. It’s going to happen for Maverick McNealy, it’s just a matter of when. The general consensus has been it will happen on a large stage, taking down current giants in the sport. While it’s been far from that at larger events, this is set up perfectly for McNealy to take down this field. He’s been victim to streaky golf but seems to have turned that into a positive, riding a nice stretch of good golf – most recently at the Scottish Open.
