The Saturday slate has a good range of pitching matchups from an obvious strength to major weakness. It’s a key element in finding the best value on the board with any first inning play. Be it a No Run First Inning or a Yes Run First Inning bet, the goal is to combine recent hitting and pitching trends, ballpark data, and the first inning moneyline tool at OddsShopper. Here are the best value plays for tonight’s action with the best NRFI bets for Saturday, July 23.

Best NRFI Bets Today: No Run First Inning Picks 7/23

Angels vs. Braves Pick | Claim $200 FREE at BetMGM

It took a little but the Braves finally got to Shohei Otani last night, as Atlanta stayed hot at the plate. The pitching matchup tonight would lend itself to another slow start for both teams, especially adding in the injuries to the Angels – most notably Mike Trout. The Braves send Kyle Wright to the mound and the Angels will counter with Patrick Sandoval. Both are pitching to K rates right at 24% and with ERA numbers at or around 3.00. The Angels haven’t crossed the plate in the first inning over their last three games and are only averaging .45 runs per first inning (RPFI) on the road. Atlanta is giving up just .29 RPFI to visitors this year, and the Angels being down a key bat isn’t going to help.

Cubs vs. Phillies Pick | Claim $200 FREE at BetMGM

Right back to the scene of the crime last night, one of the plays here that did not hit, but it’s hard to ignore the tremendous value on BetMGM. The two pitchers tonight a Zack Wheeler and Marcus Stroman – the latter making his third start off the IL from elbow inflammation. Stroman is good for about four innings while Wheeler will look strong but is prone to a key mistake or two. The Phillies got a run in the first last night with a solo shot, and still have some strong pop with Kyle Schwarber at the top of the lineup – and on a tear from a power standpoint. The Phillies give up .54 RPFI at home, and after the Cubs offensive explosion last night, it’s fair to look at the first inning as a chance to get to Wheeler.

Cardinals vs. Reds Pick | Claim $200 FREE at BetMGM

Any home game for the Reds at Great American Ballpark is going to need two strong pitchers to counter the small dimensions of the park. Despite a recent slump, the Reds are still averaging .72 RPFI at home, and 1.00 over their last three games. The Cardinals are averaging .61 RPFI on the road which is tied for third best across all MLB. Back to needing two strong pitchers to counter the above, don’t expect that tonight. Steven Matz and Mike Minor each bring an ERA north of 6.00 into this game, struggling with a combined 3-9 record on the year. The Cards are also averaging 1.33 RPFI over their last three, so expect plenty of scoring chances in both halves of the first.
