Derrick White Over 3.5 Assists (+130, Caesars)

Upon being traded from San Antonio to the Boston Celtics ahead of the deadline, Derrick White effectively went from starting and playing north of 30 minutes per game to coming off the bench in a reserve role. Despite seeing a decrease of three minutes per game on average, White has continued to be an impactful piece in Boston. Among his statistical averages since joining the Celtics are 3.5 assists per contest. Fittingly, that same number is the posted NBA player props assist total for White ahead of tonight’s Game 2 matchup.

In Game 1 of the NBA Playoffs, White dished out four helpers across 28 minutes of action. Going back several games, the former Colorado standout has been very consistent when it comes to his assist production. In fact, one would have to retrace all the way back to March 13 to find the last time White finished with fewer than three assists in a game. While he notably finished with exactly three assists in the majority of games during that stretch, the fact that he has been either going over or falling just short of the NBA betting line is worth noting. This becomes even more pertinent considering that OddsShopper reveals optimal odds of +130 for White to exceed 3.5 dimes in Game 2.

The implied probability that White will exceed the NBA props line of 3.5 assists tonight according to the +130 odds is 43.5%. Meanwhile, Awesemo gives him a slightly better chance of going over his per-game average at 46%. Although the statistical discrepancy between the line and Awesemo’s projections is minimal, there is still an edge. Coupled with such a favorable plus-money price, this over prediction does indeed carry a 5% expected ROI value. Of course, it’s also worth noting that the opposing Brooklyn Nets leave quite a bit to be desired defensively.

Gary Trent Jr. Over 13.5 Points (-112, FanDuel)

The NBA Playoffs could not have gotten off to a much worse start for the Toronto Raptors. Shooting guard Gary Trent Jr. was certainly no exception to this overarching theme for the team. While the Raptors were busy getting hosed by the officials and blown out in both Games 1 and 2, Trent was hardly a factor in either game. In Monday night’s Game 2, he played all of 10 minutes and shot 0-3 from the field before exiting early. He never returned due to an illness that had him questionable to even start the game, to begin with.

Although he initially was designated questionable to play in tonight’s Game 3 as well, Trent has officially been cleared to go. This comes as no surprise given the 0-2 series deficit that the Raptors face. A win at home tonight is necessary and having one of their top scorers in Trent on the floor figures to be vital to their chances. On the season, he averaged 18.3 points per game. Although he has failed to crack double figures in both playoff games thus far, the illness was clearly hindering his play. As a result of the two poor performances, Trent’s NBA player props scoring total for Game 3 has plummeted to 13.5.

While the Philadelphia 76ers have been a solid defensive team all season long, bettors must keep in mind that Matisse Thybulle will be unavailable for all games in Toronto during this series. The real story as far as Trent’s NBA betting points total is concerned is simply a massive over adjustment by the market. OddsShopper shows that most sportsbooks are juiced to the over on 13.5 points and rightfully so. Trent could still finish upwards of four points below his per-game average and go over the NBA props line for tonight’s game. Considering that the optimal price available is currently -112 odds, Awesemo gives this over prediction a 22% ROI.

DeMar DeRozan Under 5.5 Assists (-140, Caesars)

It seems pretty safe to say that the Chicago Bulls put up a better fight in Game 1 of their First Round series against the defending champion Milwaukee Bucks than most were expecting. Although veteran guard DeMar DeRozan came up over nine points shy of his season scoring average on Sunday, he certainly managed to impact the game in other ways. DeRozan’s final line included eight rebounds, six assists and a trio of steals across a whopping 43 minutes of action. The six assists drastically exceeded the 4.9 that DeRozan averaged over the course of the full season.

Ahead of tonight’s Game 2 matchup, NBA betting oddsmakers have set 5.5 as the line for total DeRozan assists. Thus, he could actually exceed his season-long per-game average and still finish under the betting number. Furthermore, DeRozan only managed to exceed this NBA player props total in one of his last four games played during the regular season. After getting a true scare in Game 1, one could argue that the Bucks will look to make a statement in tonight’s contest. If this game handicap comes to fruition, it would almost certainly include a heightened level of intensity defensively, with a keen focus on shutting down DeRozan, the Bulls’ top offensive threat.

OddsShopper shows that DeRozan’s assists prop is juiced rather heavily to the under across the NBA betting market. However, the range of prices between sportsbooks is very large. In fact, optimal -140 odds yield up to 27 cents of an advantage over other listings in the market. Awesemo only projects DeRozan to finish with 4.73 assists in tonight’s Game 2 showdown. This results in a 66% win probability for this under prediction. When bet at the optimal price point, the expected ROI comes in at 14%.
