3 DFS Plays

Daniel Gafford – Arkansas – $8800 DK – Gafford leads a Razorback team that loves to push the tempo and get the game moving which is a nice boost anytime they are on a slate. The big man is a double double threat on any night and pads the stats with blocks/steals so the upside is never in question. The few concerns are always A) Foul trouble and B) the minutes aren’t always what we want to see from a guy wit this type of price tag. However in a competitive road game (Ark -6.5) vs Colorado State we should see Gafford push for 30+ minutes and that has the potential for a massive outing tonight.

Frankie Ferrari – San Francisco – $7300 DK – Certainly not a household name as SFO basketball isn’t getting much press these days , but Ferrari paces a solid Dons squad and they actually come in as a 6 point favorite at Cal tonight. The senior guard has played 32+ minutes in 5 straight games and should be out there as much as he can handle tonight against Cal. The shooting has been volatile so far this year which has hurt the upside a bit , but I think he makes for a solid mid-range target tonight vs a Cal defense that hasn’t stood out in any way so far this year.

Andre Wesson – Ohio State – $4300 DK – Ohio State is off to a solid start this year with the lone loss coming vs Syracuse. They’ve faced a few quality squads as well as some cupcakes so we have some data and information to go off of now that the season is underway. Andre Wesson is a guy who is seeing major minutes in games that are competitive and a road battle at Illinois should be just that even if the Illini are in a down year. He hasn’t shown major upside , but when he stays out of foul trouble he is an important piece of this offense which gives him a solid floor at a 4.3k tag.

3 Games Against the Spread

North Carolina -25 (-115) vs UNC Wilmington-  Laying 25 points is not something I do very often , but this game did catch my eye a bit just because of situational factors. UNC was embarrassed vs Michigan last week and has had a bit of a break to let that simmer, all while coach Roy Williams repeatedly talked about how much work needs to be done. Coby White (G UNC) is sitting tonight with injury , but UNC has plenty of depth and comes home vs a UNCW team who obviously has a massive talent disadvantage and hasn’t played anyone near the caliber of this UNC team. Furthermore they have been playing with a little more pace lately which is a recipe for disaster against a UNC team that wants to push the tempo as much as possible. The O/U of 170 shows that plenty of points will be scored and I expect an angry UNC team to really lay it on this UNCW team tonight so -25 is something I’m willing to lay.

St Joseph’s -3 @ Princeton –  I haven’t seen a ton of Princeton this year , but from a look at their early season schedule it seems like they haven’t faced many tough opponents and the 4-2 record is somewhat untested. The Hawks come in 4-4  but have faced plenty of quality opponents during this opening stretch of the year. It is a tricky spot with St. Joes coming off a loss vs Temple and having  Villanova on deck, but I’m willing to lay the points on the road against a team I think may be overvalued a bit due to a very soft opening schedule.

Wyoming +4.5 vs South Carolina –  This is a weird one as Wyoming basketball has been ugly so far this year with a 2-6 record and no real momentum coming in. However a trip to Laramie for their first road game may be a trap for a South Carolina team who really doesn’t have a quality win on the resume yet. They were blown out by Wofford , and close losses to Stony Brook and Providence aren’t the most egregious thing you can find , but I still do not think the talent gap here is as big as most make it. Justin James is a senior guard averaging 25 a game for the Cowboys and he should be able to keep them in range to steal one at home tonight. It is worth noting Hunter Maldonado (G , Wyoming)  is currently a GTD with back spasms and he is a key contributor to the team so keep an eye on his status as the day goes on.
