Rangers starting pitcher Glenn Otto has continued to struggle in his second season in the major leagues. In his 13 starts this season, Otto has a 5.40 ERA and a 4-6 record. His strikeout-to-walk ratio has been abysmal. Otto has a 17.4% strikeout rate and a 12.6% walk rate. This will be Otto’s second consecutive start against the Mariners offense. In his last start, Otto allowed three earned runs and two home runs in six innings. He only stuck out four batters on his way to his fourth straight loss. Betting the under on Otto’s strikeout prop tonight feels very strong. Otto has only captured five or more strikeouts in 2 of his last 11 starts. This will also be the third time the Mariners have seen Otto this season; he went under this strikeout prop in both games, and there is little reason to think he won’t again tonight.

The biggest favorite in this parlay is Jake Odorizzi under 4.5 strikeouts in his road matchup against the Athletics. Odorizzi has been much better in his second season with the Astros, with a 3.56 ERA and a very impressive 0.56 HR/9. He is allowing a career-best 31.0% hard-hit rate and a 5.5% barrel percentage. Odorizzi has lost some juice on his pitches, which is why his strikeout rate of 18.3% is the lowest it has been since his second season in the major leagues. The Astros are rolling after sweeping the Mariners and now lead the AL West by 13 games. Odorizzi is a -235 favorite in this matchup, but finding strikeouts may be difficult. The Athletics rank in the top 10 in strikeout rate, but Odorizzi has only had five or more strikeouts in 3 of his 10 starts. Stokastic’s MLB Model has Odorizzi projected for 3.8 strikeouts.

The Cubs have won four straight games as they try to climb a mountain to get back into the playoff picture. In his five starts, Adrian Sampson has an 0-1 record and a 3.34 ERA. This is his fifth season in the major leagues, and he has yet to complete a season with at least a 20% strikeout rate. Despite not getting to four strikeouts in back-to-back games, Sampson has had four or more in four of his last six. If there is ever a time to get back on track, it would be tonight in this juicy matchup against the Pirates. Pittsburgh ranks second in the league in strikeout rate for a team, at 25.6%. Stokastic’s MLB Betting Model has Sampson projected for 4.4 strikeouts, which is well over this prop line. He has struggled to get strikeouts lately, but this matchup is impossible to ignore. Expect a bounce-back performance from Sampson against the Pirates.

Despite this Zack Greinke prop being the biggest underdog in the parlay, Stokastic projects Greinke for only 3.2 strikeouts and an xWin rate of 60%. At age 38, Greinke has lost his strikeout powers at an incredible rate. He has a very alarming 12.7% strikeout rate, which is by far the worst in his career. It seems as though Greinke is just collecting a paycheck at this point for the horrendous Royals. Greinke has recorded three or fewer strikeouts in three of his last four games. However, this matchup is extremely good, as the Angels lead the league in team strikeout rate (26.6%). Picking against Greinke and his strikeout props has been profitable, and that should continue despite the incredible strikeout matchup. In his last seven starts, he is averaging only 83.9 pitches per start. The leash is short, which also helps this under.

Lastly, Nick Pivetta is in another strong underdog spot against the Guardians. Among the rest of the starting pitchers in this parlay, Pivetta has the best strikeout rate of anyone, at 23.0%. This is the third straight season Pivetta has had a strikeout rate of 23% or higher. The Red Sox have lost 9 of their last 10 games, so they need a strong outing from their ace tonight. Pivetta leads the team in wins, ERA, strikeouts and innings. He has averaged 5.5 strikeouts per start and has hit five or more strikeouts in 11 of his last 16 starts. The main issue with this prop is the Guardians’ league-leading 18.5% strikeout rate as a team. They simply don’t strike out. Pivetta faced the Guardians once this season and had four strikeouts in seven innings. This will be the closest prop of the night, but there is great value in this over.
