Marquez has also allowed a career-high 1.56 HR/9 and has a 5.47 ERA in his 18 starts this season. Pitching in Coors Field has its downside, and the White Sox have a 5.7 implied run total, which is tied for the second highest on the slate. The White Sox also rank 26th in team strikeout rate, so Marquez has his work cut out for him. Marquez has allowed a 6.63 ERA at Coors Field, but his strikeout rate increases to 19.8% compared to 17.6% on the road. This line is simply too low. After spending several seasons in the Tigers and Orioles farm systems, Spenser Watkins has gotten his second chance at the major leagues this season. He has a 3.93 ERA and 1.37 WHIP, which is substantially better than his 2021 season. Even with better numbers on the mount, Watkins still only 13.6% strikeout rate. After starting out with eight straight games going under this prop line, Watkins has gone over in three of his last four. Watkins has also won three of his last four starts as well. Tonight will be the fourth major league start for Garrett Hill in this matchup at home against the Padres. The Padres only rank 20th in team strikeout rate and are implied to score 4.7 runs. This is a tough prop to get behind, but trust the numbers in this spot; the over is a -130 favorite. This feels like a bet on Hill’s upside. In the minor leagues this season, Hill had a 40.9% strikeout rate in seven starts in Double-A and a 28.7% strikeout rate in eight starts in Triple-A. Hill’s strikeout rate hasn’t translated to the major leagues just yet, but maybe tonight is the night. He has shown plenty of upside in the minor leagues to provide confidence.
