Between COVID and injuries, the Rockets lineup is hurting tonight. John Wall will be out at least a couple more games with a knee injury. Christian Wood injured his ankle last game and will also be out, with the added risk of missing next game as well. Lastly, Danuel House is currently quarantined. This leaves the newest Rockets star, Victor Oladipo, with a lot of weight to carry. Between his two games with Houston, Oladipo has averaged 27 points, five rebounds and 7.5 assists. He has worked well with Eric Gordon, who has averaged 20.5 points since Oladipo’s arrival. With Wood out, DeMarcus Cousins may be asked to play a larger role. However, he has not topped 20 minutes since Jan. 6, so it is unclear how much of an increased role he can handle.
Along with not being projected as a good team when healthy, the Pistons have been dealing with injuries as well. It was announced rookie Killian Hayes will miss a couple months with a hip injury. Josh Jackson is dealing with a quad injury, though he is expected to go. The biggest name on the Pistons continues to be Blake Griffin. While his workload was managed at the beginning of the season, he has played 30 minutes in six straight games. Still, he has been relatively ineffective, failing to top 20 points during this stretch. Instead, Jerami Grant has been Detroit’s best scorer, averaging 27.9 points over the past seven games.
