Expert NASCAR Betting Picks This Weekend: Blue-Emu 400 at Martinsville | Saturday, 4/9/22

NASCAR goes racing under the lights Saturday night for 400 laps around the historical Martinsville Speedway. Let’s dive into our expert NASCAR picks this week and go over a few options for the outright market, positional selections and best NASCAR bets and predictions for the Blue-Emu Maximum Pain Relief 400 on Saturday, April 9.

Expert NASCAR Picks & Predictions: Blue-Emu 400

Best Pick to Win the Blue-Emu 400: Kevin Harvick (+2200)

The data set is limited; it is all of two races.

However, a trend is starting to emerge for the Generation 7 car, and it should be even more apparent at a half-mile track like Martinsville. That trend is the drivers finishing higher at shorter tracks in 2022 start higher up the grid while showing top-10 speed in practice. With Friday afternoon in the periphery, outright bettors should be looking for drivers who showed short-run and long-run speed and who also managed to qualify in the top 10.

Chase Briscoe won at Phoenix with the third-fastest car after ranking sixth in the single-lap rankings and second in the five-lap rankings from the sixth starting position. Furthermore, the top four drivers all finished their day ranking seventh or better in the average green flag speed rankings while posting top-10 practice numbers. Fast forward to Richmond last Sunday, and Denny Hamlin wins with a late surge, ranking third in green-flag speed in the final 100 laps. Kevin Harvick ran a close second to Hamlin, finishing with the fastest car at Richmond. The final grid at Richmond looks a bit more shuffled, however, bettors have to remember that the field was split with pit strategy, and as a consequence, William Byron was able to nearly win with that day’s sixth-fastest vehicle despite ranking 18th in the five-lap run, and 19th in the 10-lap run.

With an eye toward Friday, Harvick should be a name that starts popping. At Phoenix, Harvick ended his day in sixth with the fourth fastest vehicle. As previously mentioned, he ended his day at Richmond in second with the fastest car. However, people tied to track history will be hesitant to jump on board. His best recent finish at Martinsville is sixth, back in the 2019 Spring race. Yet with a fast qualifying result on Friday afternoon, he can put himself in a position to take advantage of a fast car and break his winless streak. For those that think Harvick’s best days are behind him, grabbing Harvick for a top-five (+310) or at least a top-10 (-165) should be suitable paths as well.
