NASCAR heads to the Midwest for the Enjoy Illinois 300, live from World Wide Technology Raceway this Sunday afternoon. Let’s dive into our expert NASCAR picks this week and go over a few options for the outright market, positional selections and the best Enjoy Illinois 300 betting picks and predictions for Sunday’s race in Madison, Ill.
NASCAR Picks & Predictions: Enjoy Illinois 300
Chase Elliott to Win (+1000)
NASCAR makes its first trip to Illinois since June of 2019 at Chicagoland, but the Cup Series will not be racing at the intermediate oval in Joliet for a fourth straight week of 1.5-mile action. Instead, the Cup Series makes its long-awaited debut at World Wide Technology Raceway, formerly known as Gateway Motorpark, for the Enjoy Illinois 300. For years, the Trucks have been racing in Madison, and not too long ago, this track was a fixture of the Xfinity Series as well.
Thus, without any prior Cup races at this track, the only way drivers will have any experience at WWTR will have come in previous Trucks or Xfinity starts. However, Kyle Busch recently made comments that any experience these drivers have may not be that much of an advantage come Sunday.

Besides familiarity, part of the issue for drivers could be just how much this track plays out like Phoenix, Richmond and Martinsville from this season. While larger (1.25-miles) than those three venues, WWTR shares characteristics with all three including limited banking (11 degrees), long straightaways and tight corners. Thus, the limited passing and ability of the drivers up front to sit on the lead is fully in play for Sunday. Furthermore, considering the lack of laps (240), there will not be ample opportunity for drivers to meander their way forward. A late pit road penalty could easily be a death knell for any driver in the final 100-lap segment.
Thus, avoiding drivers with bad qualifying efforts and/or a lack of speed in practice will be paramount. Furthermore, betters should keep their eyes on drivers who demonstrate long-run speed in practice as well as high qualifying positions. However, this bit of advice rolls off like hearing someone, “play the best plays”. Until Friday afternoon’s 50-minute-long practice session and qualifying on Saturday morning, no one will be privy to this information.
Yet, betters do have access to data from the three aforementioned races including green flag speed, a hopeful foreshadowing of the speed drivers will have on Sunday. Thus far in terms of finishes at Phoenix, Richmond and Martinsville, Ryan Blaney has been the most consistent with no finish worse than seventh place. However, in terms of green-flag speed, Chase Elliott has had a rocketship at these shorter tracks with the fastest car at Phoenix and third fastest at both Richmond and Martinsville. Furthermore, although the banking makes it a week corollary, Elliott posted the fastest green-flag speed at Dover. Betters may be hesitant to go after 10-1 odds for a driver who failed to turn a top-three car, in terms of speed, into a top-nine finish at any of those three races. On the other hand, without any actual track data to latch on to, using green flag speed as a projection for Sunday is the best avenue to go down until practice is run.
