The Steelers will have their hands full when traveling to Arrowhead Stadium for a Sunday Night AFC Wild Card Playoff game. After sneaking into the postseason off the wild Raiders-Chargers season finale, Pittsburgh enters as the biggest underdogs facing a spread that has gone as high as 13.0-points. If they hope to pull off this upset their Steel Curtain defense will have to lead the way. The Steelers’ pass defense ranks eighth in pass DVOA and has allowed the ninth-fewest passing yards per contest (215.1) while forcing a league-high 3.2 sacks per game and 4.7 over the last three weeks. In the case that Ben Roethlisberger conducts one last miraculous performance for Pittsburgh and gets Kansas City to question their midseason resurgence, we may be looking at a much tighter contest than predicted.

The Chiefs, on the other hand, have gone over in five consecutive games by an average of 8.0-points per contest and have looked great offensively since Week 10. It’s reassuring that the weather forecasts moderately and should have zero negative impact on the offensive game plan for either team.

Pittsburgh has covered in back-to-back weeks while entering both games as underdogs. They’ve covered in five of their last eight games while being 8-9 against the spread on the year. Their Week 16 showing may cause concern but having Devin Bush available this time around drastically improves the outlook for the defensive unit. That game sticks out like a sore thumb when reviewing this matchup but it shouldn’t be overlooked that this Steelers team beat Tennessee, Cleveland and Baltimore in three of the last four weeks of the regular season. Those teams had a combined record of 28-23 and while the Browns and the Ravens narrowly missed the playoffs, the Titans landed the number one seed in the AFC.
