Sean B’s Best NBA Bets Today: Picks & Predictions for 12/8/2021

Sean Blazek

All three favorites covered the closing spread in Tuesday’s matchups. Today there is a wild Wednesday slate with 13 games, which means lots of opportunity to search through. As always, continue to monitor the injury updates throughout the day as the league has many key players sitting out or questionable with injuries and the league’s health and safety protocols. Let’s dive into the best bets to make tonight and overall NBA betting tips for Wednesday, Dec. 8.

Best NBA Betting Picks Tonight | Dec. 8

Thunder vs. Raptors

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander returned back to action with a bang on Monday, scoring 30 points and dishing out 13 assists in a 114-103 win against the Detroit Pistons. This victory ended an eight-game losing streak for the Oklahoma City Thunder. They sit last in the Northwest division with a 7-16 record. The Thunder have struggled producing points all season, averaging a league-worst 95.4 points per game on the road. The Thunder are back with a healthy roster and will look to challenge the Toronto Raptors on the road in Scotiabank Arena.

The Raptors come in tonight’s matchup with back-to-back wins on their home floor against the Milwaukee Bucks and Washington Wizards. The Raptors are 4-8 at home this season, a disappointing start resulting from battling through injuries to their starting five. Toronto will be without O.G. Anunoby, who is still working through a hip injury, forcing him to miss the last nine games. In addition, Khem Birch will remain sidelines with a knee injury, which means Precious Achiuwa will continue to see more minutes. The Raptors are averaging 102.8 points per game over the last nine games. Gary Trent Jr. has struggled mightily in his last two games since returning from absence. He is shooting a combined 5-for-24 from the field and failed to score double digits in both games.

The Raptors are 28th in the league in pace. Both teams’ average field goal percentages are in the bottom five in the league. The Thunder have a 9-14 over/under record and 4-8 over/under on the road. Toronto has a 5-7 over/under record at home. Neither team is impressive from the free-throw line, nor do they get to the line that often. With Anunoby out and Trent struggling to find his shot, take the under in tonight’s matchup. Do not anticipate a high-scoring game with two low-caliber offenses facing off on Wednesday night.

Jazz vs. Timberwolves

The Utah Jazz look to continue their four-game winning streak on Wednesday against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Utah is on fire as of late, averaging 125.5 points per game over the past four games. Donovan Mitchell leads the Jazz with an average of 24.2 points per game, and Utah has six players averaging double figures in scoring. The Jazz have the highest offensive efficiency in the league and rank first in the league in 3-pointers made with 15.6 per game.

The Timberwolves enter Wednesday with a 11-13 record, third in the Northwest division. The Timberwolves are riding a three-game losing streak, allowing 110-plus points in all three games. Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards lead Minnesota in scoring, averaging a combined 46.2 points per game. Towns, Russell, Patrick Beverley and Jaylen Nowell are all listed as questionable for tonight’s matchup. Barring any setbacks, Towns should be a go after returning on Monday, but it will be good to keep an eye on all injury updates in this matchup given the implications they could have on the Timberwolves rotation.

The over has cashed in eight of the last nine Jazz games and five of the last seven games for the Timberwolves. Both teams rank top five in the league for 3-pointers made per game and top two in 3-point attempts per game. Expect a high-tempo game with plenty of 3-pointers attempted. Tonight is another great opportunity for Mitchell to extend his streak of 30-plus points per game. As long as these two teams continue to produce from deep, this total should have no problem going over.
