How to Bet on UFC Vegas 38: Expert UFC Betting Picks

Casey O’Neil vs. Antonina Shevchenko

Shevchenko will be in action at flyweight this weekend against O’Neil. Books have finally realized that Shevchenko is not as skilled as her younger sister, UFC flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko, and it reflects in the moneyline odds, as O’Neil is a sizable -225 favorite. For reference, this is first time Shevchenko has been an underdog in the UFC. In her last fight she was exposed on the mat by Andrea Lee. Shevchenko could not stop the takedown and could not get up from bottom position, and Lee dominated that fight until the end of Round 2 when she submitted Shevchenko. O’Neil may be greener compared to Lee, but she is a better wrestler and should come in with a gameplan to take Shevchenko down. O’Neil has won both of her UFC fights inside the distance, one by submission and one by TKO. Both came on the mat, and O’Neil is currently plus money to finish this fight inside the distance.

Best Bet: Casey O’Neil In the Distance +140 (DraftKings Sportsbook)

Kevin Holland vs. Kyle Daukaus

This should be a classic striker/grappler matchup, with Daukaus looking to take the fight down and Holland wanting to stay at distance and strike. In Holland’s last two fights he was exposed badly in the wrestling department against Derek Brunson and Marvin Vettori, getting taken down six and 11 times, respectively. After the Vettori fight he said he needed to take time off to work on his wrestling, but that only lasted three days and he went back to his old ways. If that is the case, Daukaus can win this fight with a wrestling-heavy approach. He is not as accomplished a wrestler as Brunson or Vettori, but he will be able to get Holland to the mat. Holland has shown the ability to get back to his feet after being taken down, but if he cannot consistently stop the takedowns, he will not win rounds. If Daukaus cannot get the fight to the mat, he will be at a major disadvantage on the feet, and Holland could potentially stop him. However, Daukaus has enough wrestling to win two rounds and win a decision. Daukaus’ moneyline (+145 BetMGM) is perfectly fine, but Holland is durable and Daukaus is not much of a finisher, so if he does win, it will likely come via decision.

Best Bet: Daukaus by Decision +260 (BetMGM)

Lastly, Alex Hernandez and Karol Rosa have great matchups this weekend, but their moneylines are both north of -500. Both should win, so they can be used as parlay pieces. Bettors can play both together (-250 range) and add a third leg for a plus-money parlay. Just use caution when trying to build a massive parlay and use three or four legs max.
