  • 12 golfers

The field is undoubtedly weaker than average, but that does not change the salary distribution and how golfers are priced. So again there are 12 golfers at $9,000 or above, leading off with Sungjae Im. He also is one of the three highest-owned golfers, as his course history has warranted the high salary, and his season-long form is one of the best in the field as well. However, he has only played in five of seven events this year, as he sat out two of the last three weeks. Last week his return to the action brought a tie for 33rd, while he struggled most around the green. Expect that to be tightened up this week. Im’s ownership will not reach 30%, at least in the largest contests, but Billy Horschel’s could. At just $9,600 and playing solid golf this season, Horschel is seen as the safest place to start a lineup this week.

Checking in as the third-highest owned golfer of the slate, Daniel Berger is looking like he will be 20% owned or higher, despite injury concerns. Joaquin Niemann, fresh off a rather dominating performance in Los Angeles, may opt for the party scene in Miami this week, only about an hour drive from West Palm. But not all gamers think he will be seen on South Beach, as 17% of the field is looking at the possibility for him to secure back-to-back wins. Keith Mitchell has the fifth-highest ownership projection in this price range and in the top 10 of the event, as course history and recent form suggest a great combination for him.

Then there is a bit of a drop off with the other remaining seven golfers. These four should all be owned between 10% and 15%:

  • Tommy Fleetwood
  • Matthew Wolff
  • Alex Noren
  • Brooks Koepka

Top Contrarian Fantasy Golf Picks

Nine of the 12 golfers in this range were mentioned above, leaving three candidates that are projected at or less than 10%. Starting off with Florida resident Louis Oosthuizen, he played some of the most consistent golf over the last 12 months but has not had any top-10s here. Neither has Shane Lowry, but Lowry has never missed a cut in four trips here. Then lastly, defending champion Matt Jones broke out of a mini-slump last week and came in a tie for 15th, which should give him confidence. All three present solid options when adding one or multiple low-owned golfers into lineups.

PGA DFS Mid-Range ($8,900-$7,500)

  • 22 golfers

There are a few more familiar names in this price range, and that is a product of a number of golfers with odds in the 20-1 to 66-1 outright market. There will be plenty of ownership going here as well, including Brian Harman, who has a projection of 18%, the fourth highest on the slate. Cameron Young will be under a heat check advisory, as he played incredible golf last week and came in second to Niemann. He will likely carry ownership above 15%. Denny McCarthy missed the cut the last time out, but that is not scaring games away; his projection is coming in just shy of 16%, which is top 10. K.H. Lee has not missed a cut all year, and a lot of gamers like that consistency. He and Aaron Wise are the remaining two golfers that could push 15% ownership this week. There is a bit of a drop-off in terms of projected ownership to the next group of golfers, all of whom are likely to be owned between 10% and 15% this week:

  • C.T. Pan
  • Mackenzie Hughes
  • Jhonattan Vegas
  • Chris Kirk
  • Taylor Moore
  • Christiaan Bezuidenhout

About half of the golfers in this section will be owned over 10%, leaving around 10 that have projected ownership of less than 10%. Those that could end up over 10% include:

  • Mito Pereira
  • Russell Knox
  • Patrick Reed
  • Ryan Palmer
  • Michael Thompson

Top Contrarian Fantasy Golf Picks

This week some of the bigger names make up some of the best contrarian plays. Lee Westwood and Gary Woodland are the first two that come to mind, both projected with 5% ownership. Rickie Fowler and Ian Poulter are the next two, coming in with projected ownership of around 6%. However, none of them seem to possess the upside that Nicolai Hojgaard has shown recently, with a win and another top-five in his last four starts. The other two ended in missed cuts.
