The second major of the season is in the books, but that does not mean there is not a lot to play for. The PGA tour season never stops and in One and Done, the weeks between the majors are vital for maintaining or increasing your standing in your pool. The Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial brings an interesting blend of top-name players and guys who did not play last week. Fans will have to balance the ability to reach for an elite with those available at this point in the season.

The PGA Championship 2022 One and Done Recap
Jordan Spieth
Jordan Spieth is one of the more popular players across all formats last week as he headed into the tournament playing fantastic golf. He beat Patrick Cantlay in a playoff just a few weeks ago and all signs pointed towards him contending for the major and his shot at the Grand Slam. Unfortunately for Spieth, he really could not get much going and despite getting through the cut, he was never a factor. The 34th place finish did not register much and the $71,000 he banked for you is not moving the needle.
Patrick Cantlay
It is a long PGA Tour season so you are going to have some misses along the way, but to miss in a major hurts. Cantlay is one of the more consistent players on tour and from a One and Done standpoint, you love his ability to produce top-end finishes even if he does not win. What he did last week could not be further from that, as Cantlay was a complete no-show and was miles away from making the cut. It is a puzzling result from a guy who gains across the board, but it is the high variance nature of PGA golf. The buzz around Cantlay in majors will only continue to grow and he has two more chances this year to change that narrative.
Shane Lowry
One of the lowest opportunity cost guys that made sense last week was Shane Lowry, who came in playing extremely consistent golf as well. With the talk of wind and weather, the interest in the Irishman made sense and he once again found himself safely through the cut. He was not able to really surge during the weekend but the 23rd place finish was good enough for $166,000 in the One and Done standings.

Tommy Fleetwood
After an impressive fifth-place finish at the PGA, what’s not to like about Tommy Fleetwood this week? Better than the finish was the strokes gained data, where he gained across the board and has been dialed into tee to green for most of 2022. This course should not throw anything at him that he cannot handle and the slight drop in field strength puts him closer to the top of the field. Fleetwood was talked about in the outright markets, but if you have him available for One and Done he is a prime target.

Viktor Hovland
Most people including Viktor Hovland himself would be disappointed with his showing last week. He found the weekend, but at no point was he a factor and his talent puts him in the conversation of potential 2022 major winners. Hovland’s ball striking and off-the-tee game are fantastic, but the around-the-green stats still need improvement. Last week saw some of that and average at best putting, but Colonial requires a much different skill set. This tight technical layout actually could help Hovland and with a lot of short irons, the greens in regulation could be increased. He is a winner at Mayakoba, which has some parallels and is one of the favorites in this spot.
Harold Varner
This is another event where you will have the opportunity to take a non-elite player and save a bigger name for down the road. This event is wide open and despite guys like Justin Thomas and Scottie Scheffler in the field, there could easily be a first-time winner on tour. Harold Varner is a quality player who comes in having made five straight cuts, including the Masters and last week at the PGA. He has been positive strokes gained tee to green in all five and now gets a layout that highlights his skill set. His two best finishes on tour both have come at RBC Heritage, which is a notorious tight-lined track. This is the same type of layout in many situations and given the form, it is no fault to go for Varner this week.
Charles Schwab 2022 One and Done Pick: Viktor Hovland
A lot of who you choose should depend on where you stand in your One and Done pool and who you have available. If you have been conservative, then going for a top-end player makes sense since you have big names left, while stealing a week could be optimal if you do not have the top of the board available. It is smart to go for Hovland, who is primed for a bounce back week after the showing at the PGA. The tee-to-green numbers still jump off the page and Colonial should not test around the green in the same fashion Southern Hill did last week.
