PGA DFS: Korn Ferry Tour Power Rankings & Preview: 1-50

#30- Scott Harrington

Bio & Season Outlook: A 38-year-old from Oregon Scott has been battling on the Korn Ferry Tour since 2012! Wow. He’s played basically a full schedule each year since then and wasn’t able to breakthrough until this year.

2019 Performance: Scott secured his card in early August by finishing second at the Portland open, close to his home. Before that, he had three top t0’s, 12 made cuts and nine missed cuts.

Statistical Preview: Short game will be the issue for Scott on the PGA Tour, certainly not his ball-striking, ranking second on the Korn Ferry Tour last year. That by way of ranking 9th in GIR 10th in Driving Distance and 54th in DA. I could see him getting hot and helping some of your PGA DFS lineups in the coming weeks.

Model Rank: 10

#29- Lanto Griffin

Bio & Season Outlook: Finishing in 20th in 2017 on the then Web.com Tour, Lanto earned his PGA Tour card for the 2018 season. However, in his 26 starts he only found the top 25 once but did make 50% of his cuts, racking up 360K in earnings in the process. Not half bad, but not good enough to retain his card, thus sending him back to the Korn Ferry Tour for the 2019 season.

2019 Performance: A fantastic five-week stretch that featured a win a second a six and two other top 25’s, assured Lanto his return to the PGA Tour this year.

Statistical Preview: Favors distance (29) over Accuracy (112) but is also a good putter, ranking 8th on the year. Should be a target for courses that don’t require a great approach game, with wider fairways.

Model Rank: 11

#28-Chase Seiffert

Bio & Season Outlook: This story is a bit befuddling if you ask me. He’s been around for quite a while, 2012, but has had limited starts on any tour playing only full time on the Canadian Tour back in 2015. He finally got status on the Korn Ferry Tour this year after coming in a t9 at least year’s Traveler’s Championship, good enough to give him status this year!

2019 Performance: A 10 week stretch where he made all ten cuts, with 5 top 10’s, is all he needed to secure himself his first-ever PGA Tour card. While not getting a win is likely bittersweet, 10 top 25’s out of 15 made cuts is undoubtedly something to hang your hat on.

Statistical Preview: Chase is one when you look at the stats you wonder how he didn’t have an even better year than he did. 43rd in Driving Distance is his worst ranking, ranking inside the top 27 in all the other measured stats.

Model Rank: 7

#27-D.J. Trahan

Bio & Season Outlook: DJ was able to get in 13 starts this year playing out of the past champions category, and was able to make just over half a million and came in 164th in the standings, good enough to earn him a spot in the Korn Ferry Tour Finals.

2019 Performance: DJ missed the cut at the first leg of the playoffs, then came in a T37th in the second. He needed a tremendous finish to get his card, and that’s exactly what he got finishing in a tie for seventh at the Tour Championship.

Statistical Preview: In his limited starts, Trahan gained .627 strokes from tee to green on average, certainly something that should have gotten him a better finish than 164th. He only had 25 measured rounds, however.

Model Rank: NA

#26-David Hearn

Bio & Season Outlook: After finishing in 174th this year in the FedEx Cup standings, Heran was able to parlay that into a KFT finals birth, where he prevailed and retained his PGA Tour card for this year. The 40-year-old from Canada has made over 9.25 Million dollars in 268 events, making 163 cuts. He is still searching for his first career PGA Tour victory.

2019 Performance: David made the cut at all three Korn Ferry Finals appearances, culminating in a tie for fourth at the Tour Championship.

Statistical Preview: One of the most accurate drivers of the golf ball over the last ten years, Hearn consistently ranks among the top 15, year in and year out. That, however, will not gain you many strokes off the tee, or anywhere else. This year in his 34 measured rounds, he only gained strokes on the approach, and it was very, very marginal, like less than .1.

Model Rank: NA

#25-Fabian Gomez

Bio & Season Outlook: His win at the Sony Open a few years back earned him an exemption thru this year, but no further, thus the need to head back to the KFT after finishing in 162nd place in the FedEx Cup Standings.  He had no top 10’s on the year last year but did end in a tie for 13th twice late in the season.

2019 Performance: Fabian made the first two cuts of the KFT finals, but broke through with a second-place finish at the Tour Championship to earn his card.

Statistical Preview: Fabians best attribute was his around the green work, gaining almost a quarter of a stroke on average per round, good enough for 22nd on tour last year.

Model Rank: NA

#24-Grayson Murray

Bio & Season Outlook: It was an odd year for Grayson, who only had 14 starts, with three of them ending in a W/D, had to go back to the KFT to try and get his card back. He burst on the scene a few years back, winning the Barbasol, but could not find any rhythm this year, and battled injuries the whole season.

2019 Performance: Grayson played in four Korn Ferry tournaments this year, making the cut in all four, and placing in the top 30 in all four. The two that he played in the finals is what got him his card back, finishing 23 and then 11th in the two he played.

Statistical Preview: Grayson had 26 measured rounds on tour this season, and he was only able to gain .06 off the tee, and lost in the other three categories. Not a recipe for success on the PGA Tour that’s for sure.

Model Rank: NA

#23-Harry Higgs

Bio & Season Outlook: The 27-year-old out of Camden New Jersey has punched his ticket to the PGA Tour for the first time since turning pro back in 2014. He earned the promotion to the Korn Ferry Tour this year by finishing first in the order of merit on the PGA Latino America Tour. Talk about working your way up through the farm system.

2019 Performance: Having already secured his card with four other top 10’s and 12 additional top 25’s, to go along with 18 made cuts, and only four missed, Higgs capped off an impressive regular season with a win at the Price Cutter Charity Championship.

Statistical Preview: A little bit of life here in the stat side of Higgs, who had nothing worse than 65th (driving distance) which puts him right about average for the tour as well. Top 20 in both Ball striking and scrambling, and to top it all off, is a great putter ranked 3rd on tour last year.

Model Rank: 4

#22-Richy Werenski

Bio & Season Outlook: The very last man to get his PGA Tour card through the Korn Ferry, and actually getting is card back, is the 27-year-old from Mass.  Incredibly Werenski was also the last man out on the PGA Tour, so at least karma came back to his side in this case.

2019 Performance: After playing mediocre golf for the first two events, Werenski needed something better than 8th place to retain his card. He got just that a tie for 7th.

Statistical Preview: It was a terrible year stat-wise for Werenski, finishing no better than 81st in any strokes gained category.

Model Rank: NA

#21-Ryan Brehm

Bio & Season Outlook: Making his second appearance as a full-time member of the PGA Tour, Ryan hopes his second go-around will go better than his first. He came in 164th in the FedEx Cup standings that year, after making 17 cuts out of 25, but only one of those 17 weekends resulted in a top 25.  His return to the Korn Ferry Tour in 2018 didn’t go so well, making over 300K less than in 2017, finishing 132nd on the list. His fortunes would change for the better this year, however.

2019 Performance: A couple of top 10’s in late April/Early Mar put him in a comfortable position in the standings. Then at the Utah Championship, he finished third, which spurred him onto a win the following week at the Lecom Health Challenge. The three other top 10’s and that win secured his spot back on the PGA Tour.

Statistical Preview: Known for his distance off the tee (8th) and steady Iron play (14th in GIR) Ryan will have to find more fairways (142nd in DA) if he wants to stay on the PGA Tour for a couple of years.

Model Rank: 3
