PGA DFS & Golf Betting Picks: AT&T Bryon Nelson 2022

Jordan Spieth does not miss too many events in his home state of Texas, and he is typically the only one of my three favorites that do play here. However, all three (Spieth, Collin Morikawa, Patrick Cantlay) will be back in action at the PGA Championship next week at Southern Hills. For this week, I see no reason to fade Spieth other than his putter going cold again. Spieth has not won back-to-back starts in his career, so head to the first-round leader market for betting exposure, as riding the momentum from the RBC Heritage win could spill into this week.

PGA Weather Forecast

The wind is never dull in Texas and this week is no different. On average, it will be about 10 mph with gusts as high as 25 at some point in the week. Temperatures look perfect and no rain in sight. AT&T Bryon Nelson 2022 Fantasy Golf Picks & Projections

These golfers will have anywhere between 20% and 50% allocation.

Justin Thomas

$10,600 DraftKings/$11,900 FanDuel | 26-1 (First-Round Leader)

Both Scottie Scheffler and Justin Thomas have shown the ability to take it real low since joining the PGA Tour, as they are both a part of the sub-60 club. However, Thomas’ putter has been a problem for the latter part of the previous two years. Recently, though, it has been getting much better, as he has gained in each of the last three tournaments. That is a very good sign for somebody that is as good as he is with his ball striking. In a one-on-one situation, Thomas will be the choice, and because of this he will also get a higher allocation, something slightly above the field. In terms of betting, Thomas’ first-round leader odds are best on FanDuel at 26-1 according to OddsShopper’s PGA betting tool.

Sam Burns

$9,500 DraftKings/$11,400 FanDuel | 20-1 (Outright/Each-Ways)

These easy-layout, low-scoring events are where Burns has made a living in his first few years on tour. Major championships, however, have not gone so well. He missed the cut after the Masters after taking a few weeks off following his win at the Valspar Championship. He will not make the same decision this time, as he will play a week before heading up to Tulsa for the PGA Championship.

Aaron Wise

$8,100 DraftKings/$9,700 FanDuel | 50-1 (Outright/Each-Ways)

Speaking of playing well in these shootout events, Wise’s first win on the PGA Tour came at this tournament at Trinity Forest when it was held there for a few years. He has also come in the top 15 in three of four events this season where the winning score was -20 or better. On top of that, his putting is getting much better, matching or beating the field in two of his last three starts. One of the bold calls of the year was that Wise would rank inside the top 50 in the world ranking by year’s end. He is at his highest ranking (86th) since his win at this event back in 2018. A win here this week would likely make that bold call come true and cap off a solid return to form for the 25-year-old.

Matthew Wolff

$7,200 DraftKings/$8,700 FanDuel | 100-1 (Outright/Each Ways)

It may sound like a broken record, but the talent and potential for Wolff have always been sky high. Unfortunately, mental problems have really gotten in the way over the last 18 months. They have hurt his consistency tremendously, with more missed cuts than top-10s this year. However, when he gains form, he stays in it for a few starts, as seen at the beginning of this season when he came in 17th, second, fifth and 11th in consecutive starts. Last week he showed real quality signs that good form was returning, as he gained strokes in three of four categories and ever so slightly lost on his off-tee game, losing 0.04 on the week. Within those four rounds, though, he twice gained over one stroke and on Thursday gained over two strokes. So that part of his game may not be fully back, but it is at least showing signs of top form within the inconsistency.

Sahith Theegala

$7,100 DraftKings/$9,000 FanDuel | 125-1 (Outright/Each-Ways)

The price has come back down for this Rookie of the Year candidate. Although quite a ways behind Cameron Young, a win here this week would vault Theegala up those rankings. In a low-scoring event, he has come close before the Sanderson Farms Championship over the fall swing.

Stephan Jaeger

$6,900 DraftKings/$8,500 FanDuel | 150-1 (Outright/Each-Ways)

Now on his second stint on the PGA Tour, Jaeger had to go back to the Korn Ferry Tour last year to get back to the big stage. He did so in dramatic fashion, easily winning the Korn Ferry Tour’s regular season money list. But his second stint on tour was not going well up until a few weeks ago when he broke a stroke of missed cuts with a tie for 15th. Then last week, a tie for sixth made it two in a row where he is finally finding some form. At these prices and this course setup, which should not penalize him for being a bit wild off the tee, Jaeger should keep the form going this week.
