Round 3 PGA Championship DFS Picks | DraftKings Fantasy Golf Picks & Predictions

The 104th PGA Championship is underway, and a thrilling tournament is unfolding. This week, there was a very distinct weather advantage for the am/pm wave, as was expected heading in. There were a few standouts from the wave that had to deal with 40+ mile per hour winds, including Justin Thomas, who is just three back of the round two leader Will Zalatoris. Zalatoris took full advantage of the benign afternoon conditions and put together a fantastic day, shooting 65. It sets the stage for a thrilling weekend, and with 80+ golfers making the cut, they’ll be plenty of PGA DFS options to choose from for the showdown slates. This article will go over a few findings from the first two rounds, stats, and a few PGA DFS picks for round 2.

PGA DFS Golf Picks Today: PGA Championship Round 3

Round 2 Recap

Morning Wave

From the first tee shot, wind was a big factor for this wave. In the end, the stroke differential between the two waves was well over two shots,  and less than 35 of the 80 golfers that made the cut came from this wave. However, given the expected conditions over the weekend, the golfers that made the cut from this wave will at least have a bit more practice playing in them. Thomas’s three under 67 looked about as good as one could have shot in the morning. His score was matched by a few, though, as Brooks Koepka looked fantastic in round two, a stark contrast from his round one performance. The only other 67 or better from this wave came from Bernd Wiesberger, while six came from the afternoon wave.

Afternoon Wave

Just as this wave was getting started, the wind all but stopped blowing; for much of the afternoon, it was rather ideal conditions to play golf in, and a ton of golfers took advantage of that. There were birdie streaks and even a chance at the course record, as Bubba Watson put together his best round in a major ever, shooting 63, tying the course record. Mito Pereira looks healthy, quite healthy in fact, as he played superbly on Friday, shooting a six-under 64, backing up a solid first-round 68. Gary Woodland is also in the mix heading into the weekend after starting with two solid rounds. His iron play has carried him all year, and it is again here this week.

Those that were able to watch coverage saw the great Tiger Woods grind out a second straight-made cut here at Major this year. After his double on the par-three, 11th put him outside it, he, as he put it, “Went to Work.” He would birdie two of the next four holes and breeze into the weekend.

There were a few other notable round two scores and they came from Cameron Young, Sam Burns, Davis Riley and Stewart Cink.

Jordan Spieth ($9,300)

In each of the first two rounds, there were two mistakes off the tee that led to four shots lost. He also failed to make any putts in round one and made just a couple in round two. So, with both of those elements, Spieth is now quite a way down the leaderboard, and with that should come with relatively low ownership. Great time to pounce, as the ownership won’t stay low if he plays well tomorrow. He’s the fourth highest projected golfer in Awesemo’s PGA DFS showdown projections and one of the better values on the slate.

Joaquin Niemann ($8,600)

Niemann spent most of the first two days on the first page of the leaderboard, but a problematic inward nine, where he bogeyed five of the nine holes, pushed him down to a tie for 17th. Still, Niemann’s putter looks great and his off the tee looks solid, he just needs his best statistical attribute, his iron play, to wake up over the weekend. If it does, he could get back into the mix with a low one tomorrow.

Tyrrell Hatton ($7,800)

Possibly one of the only golfers in the world that isn’t a fan of Augusta National Golf Club, but Hatton just can’t seem to figure it out. However, he’s got a ton of talent when he does figure out a golf course and proved that today. He jolted up the leaderboard by birdieing four holes in a row on the backside and got all the way to four under for the event. A couple of bogeys coming in pushed him back to -2, but he is still well within the mix to make a run at his first Major Title. He’s gaining strokes in all four categories through two rounds  at the PGA Championship and is fourth in the field in strokes gained on the approach.

Other Low Owned Targets for PGA DFS Round 3 of the PGA Championship

  • Max Homa ($8,100)
  • Tommy Fleetwood ($7,500)
  • Harold Varner ($7,200)
