PGA DFS Picks Today: Round 2 Zurich Classic DraftKings Fantasy Golf Plays

To the surprise of no one, Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele took off and never looked back in Round 1 of the Zurich Classic on Thursday. The pair is currently atop the leaderboard at -13. The pair will tee off at 8:53 a.m. on Friday with a one-stroke lead. Let’s take a look at who else had rounds of significance on Thursday and look ahead to the best PGA DFS picks today for Round 2 DraftKings and FanDuel fantasy golf lineups.

PGA DFS Golf Picks Today: The Zurich Classic Round 2

Round 1 Recap

Scoring conditions were absolutely ideal all day, and although the morning wave did have a slight scoring advantage, the best score of the day came from odds-on favorites Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele. They also had the best team performance, with each of them making six birdies or better, and they lead after day one by shooting the first-ever 59 in tournament history. They will be prime targets for the alternate shot tomorrow, having already shot 67 in the alternate-shot format last year. Matthew NeSmith continued his hot iron play, but it was Taylor Moore, who had seven birdies or better on the round, that propelled their team to a wave low of 60, beating out David Lipsky and Aaron Rai for the lead. Defending champions Marc Leishman and Cameron Smith struggled to get it going to their best potential, matching Collin Morikawa and Viktor Hovland’s 65 on Day 1. Expect the latter to be low owned for tomorrow’s slate.

Best PGA DFS Picks Today for The Zurich Classic DraftKings Showdown

Twenty-six scores of the 80 were under par last year in this format, with the best score being a 68, shot by two teams; one of them, Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson, will have a chance to do it again in round two. On Sunday, they also shot a 70 for a score of 6 under for the two rounds of alternate shot, one shot better than Richy Werenski and Peter Uihlein. Alex Noren and Henrik Norlander are another duo that played well last year in this format and will need to do so again after a less than stellar Round 1. The same goes for Maverick McNealy and Joseph Bramlett, who had the tied for worst score of the day on Day 1 and will need something better than the 70 they shot last year on Friday to make the cut. It was their second straight missed cut at the event. Brendon Todd and Chris Kirk opened with a solid 9-under 63 and should take plenty of confidence into Round 2 after shooting 70 in the difficult alternate shot last year. Max Homa and Talor Gooch managed to shoot under par in both rounds of the alternate shot last year, as did Doc Redman and Sam Ryder. Others that weren’t able to play well on Friday last year but did play well on Sunday in the same format include Richy Werenski and Peter Uihlein, Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay, Billy Horschel and Sam Burns, Danny Willett and Tyrrell Hatton, Marc Leishman and Cameron Smith and lastly Keegan Bradley and Brendan Steele.

Tyrrell Hatton & Danny Willett ($8,000)

Their form has been trending for both Hatton and Willett, and last week, both scored incredibly well but couldn’t avoid the bogeys. More of the same today, as they both played very well, equally contributing to the team’s solid first round. They’ve done well in the alternate shot before and are both playing good golf right now. In addition, they are a good mirror of each other, both hitting it their drivers just about the same distance and putt and chip well.

Chris Kirk & Brendon Todd($7,400)

The nice thing about being partners with Todd is that it’s very likely that the second shot is going to be from the fairway. Kirk is one of the best with his irons when in the fairway and has been playing great this year. Todd also is a great putter and is just starting to warm up with that club over the last few starts. A solid value price for a team that’s done well in this format together before.

Justin Rose & Henrik Stenson ($7,200)

Each year, they continue to do it; someone says this will be the end. But for these two Ryder Cup veterans they relish the harder alternate-shot format, showcasing their skills by going 6 under in the two rounds last year. Stenson has been playing some of his best golf over the last year, and Rose well always perks up in team formats. They provide another solid value to try and roster two stud teams for tomorrow’s Round 2 slate.

Richy Werenski & Peter Uihlein($6,900)

Similar to the golfers above, these two played exceptionally well in the alternate-shot format last year, shooting 5 under their two days. Good enough for second-best and two strokes clear of the rest of the field, the team parlayed two good rounds into a third-place finish last year. They had a solid start to Round 1, shooting 7-under 65, which puts them in a good position to move up the leaderboard in the harder alternate-shot format on Friday.
