Weather looks perfect for round two. Finally, nothing to worry about.
Round One CommentaryÂ
Nick Taylor’s run of good form continued, at least for a day, posting an eight-under 63, only to be caught very late by Maverick McNealy. But a bogey on 17 and 18 sent Taylor into round two with a one-shot lead over Brian Harman. Unbelievably, Phil Mickelson has the least amount of strokes gained putting out of anyone in the top 10. Think about that for a second. He, however, doesn’t lead the ball striking versus putting category; that title goes to Bud Cauley, who gained six more strokes ball striking (2.17) than he did putting (-4.1). C.T. Pan, Patrick Cantlay, Andrew Landry and Cameron Percy round out the top five, all gaining at least 5.6 strokes more ball striking than putting.

Round Two Showdown PicksÂ
Top-10 Pick
A trio of stars start today just three back and in a tie for ninth: Adam Scott, Bryson DeChambeau and Patrick Cantlay. Cantlay sticks out most to me, and he is likely known to most of the gamers that invest heavily in showdown formats. He could have easily shot eight under or better today with a hot putter as he missed at least three makeable putts and made very few. Cantlay and DeChambeau are paired together and tee off at 7:20. Just before them go Collin Morikawa, Matthew Wolff and Joaquin Niemann. They all start on 10, the easier side, giving them a chance to gain some momentum heading into the harder front side.
Stud or Value Pick outside of the Top 10
Patrick Cantlay ($10,200)
Fairly obvious here, but I’m going to try and jam all four guys and fade Niemann.
Sneaky Pick Outside of top-10
Lucas Glover ($7,300)
A big-time price decrease from his weekly salary, Glover bounced back and played nicely tee to green in round one, gaining just shy of three strokes. That’s something I’m willing to bet on at this price, which seems way too cheap for someone who ranked 11th in SG tee to green in round one and seventh in SG: APP.
Sneaky Pick Outside of top-10
Kristoffer Ventura ($6,400)
A guy known for his ball striking and driving distance relied heavily on his putter to get back into the round after an opening double. We are going to need a couple of guys down here to jam four studs, and I like the fact that he turns around and comes right back out in the morning, with not much time to sit on that hot putter. If he can put himself in play on the par 5’s, he could have a couple of eagle chances on the day.
Lineup Fill-InsÂ
Collin Morikawa ($9,300)
Matthew Wolff ($7,800)
Phil Mickelson ($6,900)Â
John Oda ($6,300)
