Looking for a way to learn Fantasy Golf without jumping in with both feet? We have a perfect solution for you. Yahoo and Yahoo Fantasy are offering a $15,000 freeroll called the PGA “Yahoo Cup.” This contest awards a winner for weekly events and one winner at the end of the season who has the most cumulative points. It will go for 39 weeks, with the lowest nine weeks of scoring being dropped from your total score. Each week also features a $150-to-first contest, making every round matter just as much as the last. Let’s dig into the best Fantasy Golf picks this week and DFS Golf value plays for the Sony Open.
Course Preview: Waialae Country Club
Situated just a bit away from the hustle-bustle of Waikiki beach, Waialae Country Club sits on a nice piece of beachfront land that sees plenty of holes abut the Pacific Ocean. It is a short course by PGA standards, coming in at just 7044 yards and scoring to a par 70, so players should have low scores yet again this week.
Top Three Fantasy Golf Picks This Week for the Sony Open
Marc Leishman ($38)
It is not often that players earn a spot in back-to-back weeks, as typically a solid week with higher rostership will push the salary higher. But at least for one more start, Leishman is a great value again. Coming in on the shortlist of golfers expected to win this week, he finds himself 12th on the salary board. That is a perfect place to start building a lineup, as he is only $5 more than the average salary per golfer yet in the top five to win the tournament.
Matt Jones ($27)
Aside from countrymate Cameron Smith setting records last week, Jones was the biggest surprise of the week, shooting a score of -32 over the four rounds and racking up PGA DFS points along with it. While that could be his peak performance for some time, at this salary it is worth it to see if there is a win behind that stellar play of last week.
Erik van Rooyen ($26)
Surfing down the cart path … that was the adventure van Rooyen’s tee shot took on the 11th hold Sunday out on Maui, settling some 150 yards away from the hole. He wound up making double bogey, something that was very hard to overcome with all the low scoring. Before that, however, he had been hovering around the top 10 all week, looking to be in fine form. At this salary, he presents solid upside and some level of consistency given his stats and form last week.
