The PGA Tour season gets closer to conclusion with each passing week, and for One and Done pools the plot thickens. Each team already has banked a ton of money, and now it’s about who is left and one’s place in the standings. Sometimes taking a big risk can pay off, while other times it is better to be conservative and maintain a lead. The Rocket Mortgage Classic provides plenty of options and a field with a ton of different One and Done options. 3M Open 2022 One and Done Recap

Davis Riley

Last week, Davis Riley was one of the young guns on the short list of names to possibly break through for that first PGA Tour win. Riley has all the tools, but like most of the unproven talents, he also has some consistency issues that pop up. A missed cut at the 3M Open is a perfect example, as he couldn’t get much going, and the $0 banked is obviously not what Riley backers were looking for.

Tony Finau

The narrative around Tony Finau is he can’t close and doesn’t win enough on the PGA Tour. Some of that is warranted, but most of the noise is just that — noise — and he showed that by adding another win to the resume. The $1.35 million is a big score for anyone who had him left, but unfortunately, this late in the season, it was hard to still have Finau available in One and Done.

Joohyung Kim

This was more of a play for those in a jam that don’t have many top options available. Joohyung Kim is highly talented but still just getting his first couple of PGA Tour events under his belt. He nearly missed the cut but managed to find the weekend and post a tie for 26th come Sunday. The $55,000 payout is better than a missed cut, but it also doesn’t move the needle much in the overall season standings.

This is similar to Davis Riley, as Cam Young is looking to solidify himself on tour with his first win. It’s just a matter of time with his talent, and coming off another near-win in a major, he has to be considered one of the favorites in this field. His off-tee game is dominant, and outside of the U.S. and Scottish Opens, where the conditions were brutal, Young has consistently been towards the top of the board. If available, he makes a reasonable choice at a course that should benefit his ability with the driver.

The defending champion in Cam Davis is a prolific scorer who usually can’t avoid the major mistakes to get him truly in contention. He was able to do that here last year en route to the win and just had another quality showing tee to green at the 3M Open. The 16th-place finish last week showed his game is close, and at a course that allows him to be aggressive, it’s a worthwhile debate on using Davis here.

Max Homa is similar to Tony Finau last week in that most people have already used him in One and Done. Homa isn’t the betting favorite like Finau, but he certainly would be a guy to have as an option this week. He’s a proven winner on tour, a consistent cut maker, and the tee-to-green numbers are rock solid. He did miss the cut at the Open, but that was his first miss since January, and this is a perfect bounce-back spot. Homa is live to win any event he tees it up, and a field like this puts him towards the top of the betting markets.

Young is available and primed for another big-time finish. He is Rory McIlroy-like off the tee, and with the par 5’s and gettable par 4’s, this course should highlight his best skillset. The field has a few big names but nothing that resembles a major, where Young already contended. He was third at the PGA, second at the Open and is checking all of the boxes as one of the best Rocket Mortgage Classic One and Done picks this week.
