PGA Championship 2022 One and Done Picks: Expert PGA Golf Predictions This Week

The second major of the PGA season is here, which means a lot of money is up for grabs. The PGA Championship 2022 is set to begin from Southern Hills, and all the world’s best are in attendance. For One and Done, this provides a ton of options to choose from but also makes the decision incredibly difficult. With so much money in the prize pool, it’s an important week to get right and it will go a long way to cashing at the end of the season. Below we’ll break down some of the best PGA Championship 2022 One and Done picks ahead of this week’s major.

PGA One and Done Picks: PGA Championship 2022

The Byron Nelson 2022 One and Done Recap

Joaquin Niemann

Joaquin Niemann was a solid bet last week at 35-1, and after three rounds he was very live to win the tournament. Unfortunately, he melted down on Sunday with a horrendous over-par round at a course that was giving out birdies everywhere. Regardless, there is no doubting the talent, and Niemann is a great One and Done option for those who still have him available this season.

Xander Schauffele

This turned out to be quite the roller coaster for Xander Schauffele’s One and Done backers. He was this article’s selection last week, and through the first 18 holes, it seemed like he was going to earn $0 with a disappointing missed cut. He managed to make the cut on the number and then showed why he was among the favorites in the event with a massive charge up the board. The Sunday 61 vaulted him into a tie for fifth, which provided a $336,000 payout. It wasn’t perfect, but considering where he was all week, it feels like found money to have a top-five payout.

Jhonattan Vegas

Jhonattan Vegas set up as a good punt despite not being one of the premier names. He was able to make the cut, but a lackluster weekend found him towards the bottom of the board. The $20,000 payout was better than a missed cut, but it isn’t going to move the needle much in the overall season standings. That’s the risk with punting in One and Done, but at times it’s a necessary strategy.

Jordan Spieth

This is going to be a popular choice as Jordan Spieth looks for the career grand slam and another major victory. He couldn’t ask for much more entering the 2022 PGA Championship, as he is coming off a win and a runner-up finish last week. Spieth has a world-famous short game, but can he survive off the tee if the fairways and rough are punishing? That will be the big question, but nobody seems to work in and out of trouble better than Spieth, and there is no doubting his form. With the ball striking now matching his elite putting skills, this is one of the obvious targets this week for people who have him available in their pools.

Patrick Cantlay

Patrick Cantlay’s game seems to translate across many different layouts. That’s incredibly useful in majors, as these are courses golfers haven’t seen recently. Cantlay gains strokes in all four categories and has no glaring weakness to his game. Like Spieth, he has fantastic recent form with a win at the team event and then a loss in a playoff at RBC Heritage. Consistency, pure ball striking and his preferred putting surface make Cantlay an intriguing target in both the golf betting markets and One and Done formats this week.

Shane Lowry

Completely punting on a major week is not a strong strategy, as the field strength is elite and there is so much money up for grabs. That doesn’t mean one shouldn’t target some guys outside the top tier, such as former British Open champion Shane Lowry. He may not play each week on tour, but when he has teed it up in 2022, the results have been fantastic. Lowry hasn’t missed a cut and is coming off a third at Augusta and a third at Heritage. The irons and putter have been on fire, and pairing up approach and putting results in massive upside. The course is expected to play difficult, which is another positive since Lowry is one of the strongest plays in difficult conditions. It would not even be much of a surprise if he is among the leaders, and with the right conditions he can contend this week.

PGA Championship 2022 One and Done Pick: Patrick Cantlay

Lowry is a fine play, but Cantlay is the better PGA Championship One and Done pick. It hasn’t been the best 2022 season for Cantlay in the bigger events, but one result here could flip that narrative. His 39th-place finish at the Masters and a missed cut at the Players are basically the only blemishes on his season, and those are surrounded by top-end finishes. He is positive in every category and comes off a week where he gained 10.5 strokes tee to green due to gaining over eight strokes on approach. Given the difficult test of golf, the well-rounded nature of Cantlay’s game puts him in a great position to secure a big payout for One and Done this week.
