PGA DFS Picks: The Valero Texas Open Optimizer Picks & Leverage Leaders for DraftKings & FanDuel Lineups | 3/30

Following the WGC-Dell Match Play in Austin, Texas, the PGA Tour will take a short trip to TPC San Antonio (par 72, 7,494 yards) for the Valero Texas Open. This tournament makes its return to the PGA schedule after being canceled last season due to the global pandemic, and it’s the final event before The Masters next week. The DFS industry has a full slate of high-end GPP plays available for this tournament, and below are some of my favorite PGA DFS picks for both DraftKings and FanDuel, using Awesemo’s Top Golfers Tool.

PGA DFS Picks: Valero Texas Open

TPC San Antonio is a tricky par 72 that was designed by the great Greg Norman. The course took over as the host of the Texas Open in 2010 and can be a challenging test of golf that favors top-notch ball strikers. Four of the last five winners at this track have ranked inside the top three in strokes gained tee to green, and the past two champions have led their fields in strokes gained when approaching the green. As a par 72, there are four par fives on-site, making efficiency a vital aspect on these holes. The putting surfaces at TPC San Antonio are Bermuda grass. After the bracket-style format the WGC-Dell Match Play, it’s a standard week of DFS golf with 142 players teeing it up with the top 65 and ties cut following the second round.

Matt Kuchar

Awesemo PGA DFS Leverage Scores: DraftKings: 1.7%, FanDuel: 0.8%

Kuchar had a very impressive showing at the Match Play last week. He came out of a very strong pool that included Justin Thomas, Kevin Kisner and Louis Oosthuizen. Kuchar also won three of his four sudden death matches, knocking out Jordan Spieth, Brian Harman and Victor Perez — good enough for a third-place finish at Austin Country Club. Kuchar will now look to carry this momentum over to TPC San Antonio, where he has never missed a cut in eight appearances. He has finished inside the top 10 in half of those starts, including a fourth at the last Texas Open in 2019.

Throughout his career, Kuchar’s best results have always come from Bermuda greens. I am expecting a quality finish as he fine-tunes his game before heading to Augusta next week. In his last 10 starts before a major, Kuchar has posted six top-20s. In addition, he’ll be slated for less than 5% ownership on DraftKings and FanDuel, per Awesemo’s Top Golfers Tool.

Chase Seiffert

Awesemo PGA DFS Leverage Scores: DraftKings: 1.3%, FanDuel: 2.0%

Hence his low projected ownership on both sites this week, Seiffert isn’t a household name. Still, he is in outstanding form just in time for his debut at TPC San Antonio. His 18th at the Corales Puntacana Championship last weekend was his fifth top-20 in his last six starts. The highlight of his season was a third at the Honda Classic two weeks ago, where Seiffert ranked sixth in strokes gained tee to green, second in strokes gained on approach, fifth in greens in regulation and fourth in total birdies converted.

At 203rd in the OWGR, Seiffert won’t be invited to the Masters next week unless he wins here in San Antonio. Obviously, it is impossible expect a victory for Seiffert, but a high finish is certainly possible in this weak field.

Latest PGA DFS Content

Danny Willett

Awesemo PGA DFS Leverage Scores: DraftKings: 0.8%, FanDuel: 2.0%

Remember Willett? Well, he is starting to round into form right before he returns to Augusta National next week. Excluding his withdrawal from the Houston Open back in November, Willett has found himself inside the cutline in 10 of his last 11 starts worldwide. He posted a 25th at the 2020 Masters in November and just finished eighth at the Corales Puntacana Championship last weekend. Willett stuck 69.4% of the greens in that start, good enough to rank him fifth for the tournament.

Hopefully, this is a sign of things to come from Willett as a ball striker because the soft field at The Valero Texas Open presents a great opportunity for him to produce his second consecutive top-10.

Jim Furyk

Awesemo PGA DFS Leverage Scores: DraftKings: 1.0%, FanDuel: 1.8%

After being very chalky at the Honda Classic and failing to make the cut, most DFS players are likely to avoid Furyk this week at the Texas Open. For both DraftKings and FanDuel, he is slated for sub-5% ownership levels this week, via Awesemo’s Top Golfers Tool, at a track where he has been very successful. In five career starts at TPC San Antonio, Furyk has never missed a weekend and has a pair of top-10 finishes on his resume.

Plus, Furyk’s green of choice is Bermuda, ranking ninth in total strokes gained over his past 50 rounds on the specific surface. He made four straight cuts before the speed bump at PGA National.
