How To Claim Your Minnesota Fantasy Sports & Sportsbook Bonus

See below for details on how to claim your Minnesota fantasy sports and/or sports betting bonus.

Minnesota Fantasy Sports & Sports Betting Overview

The wave of legalizing sports betting continues to spread across the United States, with nearly every state having at least some sort of bill proposed in favor of it. There has been plenty of action in favor of legalizing sports betting in Minnesota, led by Sen. Roger Chamberlain. However, the opposition from Native tribes has remained strong, limiting the progress of any potential movement. Here are the top-five things you need to know about Minnesota sports betting and MN online sports betting apps.

1) Is Minnesota Sports Betting Legal?

No, sports betting is not yet legal in Minnesota. While there have been bills proposed, the state's Native tribes continue to take a firm stance in opposition of sports betting, despite amendments being made in favor of the Minnesota Indian Gaming Association (MIGA).

2) What Bills are Currently Before the State Legislature?

The state has been really flexible and has shown the willingness to adapt their bill in order to cater to MIGA. However, there has been no success quite yet.

Sen. Chamberlain has proposed an amendment to the bill (SB 1894), in hopes of gaining progress towards passing it. The amendment includes the following:

  • A required in-person registration for the mobile accounts at one of the casinos.
  • Each sports betting operator may offer two individually branded sports wagering interfaces, each of which could have a connected mobile app.
  • Allow for rules to expedite getting sports betting applicants up and running as soon as possible, following the passing of the law.
  • Clarify that the state sports betting law preempts local law.

Sen. Chamberlain also pointed out that there is no reason to be concerned about the expansion of gambling, as the state already has billions of dollars wagered through tribal casinos, the Minnesota lottery, charitable gaming and the always exciting bingo at local bars and clubs.

But, as stated above, this really isn't an issue with getting betting legalized. It's the tribal opposition, and the state cannot get around passing the bill without their support.

3) What are the Next Steps for MN Sports Betting?

Minnesota residents would love to have sports betting legal within the state, but the state's tribes have been standing in the way. MIGA represents 11 tribes and 19 casinos in the state of Minnesota. Despite the changes and flexibility with altering the bill to pass sports betting within the state, MIGA has stood firm in their stance, focusing on their disinterest of anything that would include expanding gambling to places off the reservation.

With the adoption of mobile betting options, this would be the case, and MIGA does not want to accept any terms that they believe would hurt the performance of physical casinos, which truly are the lifeblood of the reservations. This stance also remains true if the mobile betting is through the Native casinos. Simply, anything that could take away traffic through their doors has been viewed as unacceptable.

The gaming industry in Minnesota has also been thriving, and the tribes say they do not want to "rock the boat."

4) What are the Most Popular Teams to Bet on in North Dakota?

Minnesota has a slew of professional teams, and the most-represented is, of course, the Minnesota Vikings. Like most states, the NFL wears the crown as far as money bet on games.

From the days of the Metrodome to now Target Field, the Twins have been a staple in Minnesota for decades. After a bit of a drought since the team's last title in 1991, the Twins made some waves in the 2019 baseball season and added some decent pieces in the offseason. So, the 2020 season -- if it actually gets played -- could be good for the Twinkies.

Once upon a time, the Timberwolves were actually a decent team. Back in the days of Kevin Garnett, the T-Wolves were quite the draw, but have struggled in the more recent years to make any sort of playoff runs. The more successful professional basketball team in the state, however, is the WNBA's Lynx. Despite only being founded in 1999, the Lynx have an impressive four WNBA rings.

In the hockey realm, the Minnesota Wild (in St. Paul) are the only current pro team in the state not based in Minneapolis. They haven't reached the Stanley Cup Finals but have a Division Championship in 2008. The Minnesota Golden Gophers hockey program has been much more successful, with five national titles. College hockey is incredibly popular in the state, with four other colleges competing in the NCAA Division I.

5) Is There Anything Else to Know About North Dakota Sports Betting?

As of now, it really is only a wait and see type of situation. It seems like lawmakers would like to see sports betting become legal in Minnesota, with the huge economic potential it has.

Unfortunately, the Native-owned casinos feel this would have a negative impact to the physical casinos and their local economy and community.

What are the Most Common Types of Bets I Can Make in Minnesota?

Straight bet

This is the most common bet type and it is just a straight up single bet on a game. A point spread is determined by the oddsmakers with one team being favored by a certain amount of points. Let’s take a look at an example line below to give a clear indication of what a straight bet would be:

Boston Celtics -6.5 (-110), moneyline -320

at Cleveland Cavaliers +6.5 (-110), moneyline +260

O/U 206

The Celtics are favored by 6.5 points in this example. This means that if you bet the Cavaliers, you are getting 6.5 points, so if the Cavaliers win the game, or lose by fewer than seven points, you will win the bet because of your 6.5-point cushion. On the other side, when you are laying 6.5 points as the favorite, you would need the Celtics to win by seven or more to win the bet.

Final Score: Celtics 102 Cavaliers 98. Cavaliers would cover even though the Celtics won the game because the +6.5 point spread is enough to cover a four-point defeat.

Moneyline Bet

The moneyline is a bet where there is no spread; you are just picking the winner of the game. In the example above, the Cavaliers ML is +260, which means that for every $100 wagered, you win $260 if the Cavaliers win the game outright. They receive the plus side of the moneyline since they are the underdog and picking them rewards you with nice odds since they are projected to likely lose the game. On the flip side, if you bet the Celtics ML at -320, you have to bet $320 to win $100. They are the favorites so if you decide to bet the moneyline instead of the point spread, you are forced to bet additional money to win $100.

In the example above, the Celtics ML would be the winner as they won the game outright. The spread is irrelevant for a moneyline wager.

Over/Under

This is a straight bet wagering on how many total combined points will be scored in a game by both teams. For example, an NBA game may have an over/under of 210 points, which means that the oddsmakers are projecting a combined points total of 210 between the two teams. If you think the teams are going to score more than 210 points total, you bet the over, and conversely, if you think it’s going to be a defensive struggle, you can bet the under hoping that the total points scored equals 209 points or less.

Parlay

A parlay is a bet where you combine multiple bets into one bet and you get increased odds because you only win your parlay wager if all of your bets win. If you do a three-team parlay, you select three different teams from three different games and if you win all three of the bets you hit your parlay for longshot odds (6-1 so $100 to win $600). Going 0/3, 1/3, or 2/3 is all the same and you lose the parlay bet. It’s all or nothing which makes them tough to hit and is more of a home run type bet than a regular straight bet since there’s a chance for a big payoff.
