EPL DFS Picks DraftKings + FanDuel Lineups | Jan. 18

These are listed in order of what I believe are the top plays, including median projection, floor and upside.

EPL DFS Picks: Captain

Bukayo Saka (DraftKings $16,500 FanDuel $12)

Alexandre Lacazette (DraftKings $7,800 FanDuel $15)

Arsenal welcome Newcastle United for this EPL showdown. Newcastle sports the third-worst road split in the EPL, with an expected goal differential of -6. That is mostly due to their offensive struggles, as they have the second-worst road offense alongside an average defense. Arsenal’s home offense is below average, but they have scored in six of their last seven competitions. Arsenal has notable home wins against Chelsea and a recent FA cup victory against this same Newcastle squad.

Bukayo Saka is the most expensive Captain, and it is hard to get away from him. His set piece shares and offensive attack make him the high-floor, high-ceiling choice. He averages 4.87 crosses per match with 3.31 shots/assisted shots. Adding in multiple drawn fouls per match doubles up Saka’s output, with the set pieces to follow.

Alexandre Lacazette is the GPP pivot that brings brace upside to the match. For cash it stops at Saka for me, but Lacazette averages 2.4 shots/assisted shots to pair with his scoring on 46% of his appearances. The game should be a low-scoring affair, and in a GPP the goal scorer separates you from the high ownership of Saka at the Captain spot. Lacazette also gives salary relief on DraftKings to fit in more offensive weapons.

Other Options: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (DraftKings $14,400, FanDuel $15)

EPL DFS Picks: Flex

Nicholas Pepe (DraftKings $8,800 FanDuel $8)

Matt Ritchie (DraftKings $8,400 FanDuel $6)

Arsenal is expected to be without Kieran Tierney. This could set Saka at the wing back position. Nicolas Pepe will then slot into the attacking wing, and he can create offense in a hurry. Pepe has had limited minutes for the A side of the club. In his full-game run he averages 2.66 shots per match with a goal and a few open-play crosses. His minutes still are a concern, so I would keep him in the flex. In the case that we see Reiss Nelson or Joseph Willock start ahead of Pepe, I would make the same case to play them in the Flex. Either would offer tremendous value sitting sub $5,000.

On the other side of the pitch, Matt Ritchie is the only high-floor Newcastle option. He controls set piece shares and can contribute with assisted shots. For a GPP Arsenal onslaught, I would drop off to the lowest Newcastle option and spread the offense from Arsenal.

Karl Darlow (DraftKings $4,400)

Bernd Leno (DraftKings $7,400)

On DraftKings we have the ability to roster goalkeepers, the most volatile position in DFS soccer. Karl Darlow should see high volume and is coming in as one of the lowest Newcastle options. The defenders alongside him have limited output, netting a few points, but Darlow can meet his asking price even if he allows two goals. Darlow has a save rate of 71% and is seeing an average of 5.52 shots on target per match. He has stood the test against Liverpool and Manchester City, and the volume should not drop off against Arsenal.

Bernd Leno has a massive asking price due to the odds of Arsenal winning. He has recorded four consecutive clean sheets and allowed just one goal to Chelsea the last match he conceded. If Newcastle sneaks a shot past him, his value is dead, so GPP is the more fitting format for Leno at this price. I am willing to roll the dice on him given his volume of at least two saves in all but two matches on the year, plus the lack of explosiveness Newcastle’s offense brings.

Callum Wilson (DraftKings $9,000 FanDuel $14)

Joelinton (DraftKings $5,000 FanDuel $13)

Upsets happen in the EPL, and Callum Wilson can help make that happen for Newcastle. Wilson poses 3.73 shots/drawn fouls per match and contributes on 61% of Newcastle’s overall scoring. A GPP option that requires little ownership to gain leverage, Wilson would be the man to target if you like Newcastle to find the scoresheet. If Andy Carroll starts alongside Wilson, I like the price at under $4,500 for the shot volume he can bring when given the minutes.

Joelinton provides no floor, but his asking price is hard to argue against. With an average 1.93 shots/assisted shots to complement 1.26 drawn fouls, he comes a few bucks higher than Darlow. If he stays on the wing, he can track back and contribute with an elevated average of 1.13 won tackles/interceptions. The concern is his minutes, as he rarely lasts the entire match, but he can score some output in Newcastle’s 4-4-2, with the wings dropping back to help absorb and counter.

Other Options: Hector Bellerin (DraftKings $5,400, FanDuel $6), DeAndre Yedlin (DraftKings $5,800, FanDuel $4), Emile Smith Rowe (DraftKings $8,200, FanDuel $9)
