World Cup DFS Predictions & Picks
Jude Bellingham (DraftKings: $6,400, FanDuel: $16)
England is hoping to build on their momentum from a Euro run in which they fell just short to Italy. They should have Iran completely outmatched in this game. Harry Kane leads the team in scoring, as all goals are flowing through the Tottenham striker. Kane has nearly two goals per match in his recent run of seven matches. His shot volume sits at 5.08 with 57% on target rate. He grades as the top projected forward at 17.63 points on DraftKings and 25.22 on FanDuel, according to our Stokastic World Cup 2022 projections. His salary is high, so he does come with some opportunity cost.
The attackers around Kane are priced up and it is hard to fit them all in. Phil Foden and Raheem Sterling look to occupy the wings with Jude Bellingham in the midfield in an attacking role. Sterling and Foden sit at just under two shots per match. Foden carries a higher floor with his open play crossing volume tally being north of four per match. Bellingham is the best stacking piece due to his discounted salary. Bellingham averaged 2.40 shots in his limited run and hit target at 33.3%. His ability to draw fouls and create opportunities make him a strong value option.
Denzel Dumfries (DraftKings: $7,200, FanDuel: $12)
Cody Gakpo (DraftKings: $9,100, FanDuel: $15)
Netherlands has a potent offense that starts with Memphis Depay. The issue is that Depay might not start this match. If he doesn’t start, the set shares will distribute to the likes of Denzel Dumfries and Teun Koopmeiners. There will be a lot to unpack when lineups are confirmed. Dumfries does enough in open play with north of three crosses and over 1.5 shots per match and 2.29 scoring chances created. Koopmeiners benefited without Depay and Dumfries in the Nations League matches. He handles set shares as well as direct free kicks. Koopmeiners’ floor is there so the asking price offersvalue. If Depay does happen to be in the lineup then Koopmeiners will not grade out as well, but he would still make for a cheap option on a high scoring Netherlands side.
The shot volume will be plentiful for Cody Gakpo. The young star of PSV scores for fun and has two goal contributions in just three starts for his country. He averaged 4.44 shots per match, which can only go up with Depay out.
Brenden Aaronson (DraftKings: $6,300, FanDuel: $16)
The Wales vs USMNT match will be a tough battle between evenly matched sides. Christian Pulisic and Gareth Bale claim the spotlights for their respective sides and take the majority of set shares. The salaries on the two free kick and penalty takers are pretty high to pay up for, coming in at the same cost of England and Netherlands’ top players. The USMNT sets look to be split between Pulisic and Brenden Aaronson. Aaronson offers value as a one off form this match. He contributes on an even split of goals and assists for his country, with 10 contributions in his fourteen most recent outings. The shot volume stands at 1.70 shots and his on target rate is nothing to fade at 44%. He sees 2.89 scoring chances created and comes in top five in value according to the Stokastic World Cup 2022 projections at 2.01 value with a projections of 12.67 on DraftKings.
Other Options: Ismaila Sarr (DraftKings: $5,000, FanDuel $16), Alireza Jahanbakhsh (DraftKings: $5,100, FanDuel $14)
Kieran Trippier (DraftKings: $7,300, FanDuel $15)
England is the focus on defense. Kieran Trippier handles the direct and indirect sets and is coming off his best season with Newcastle in the EPL. He sports a massive salary but with that comes massive production for the England wing back. Trippier sees 7.11 crosses per match and 2.62 scoring chances created, which leads a split atop the team sheet with Sterling and Kane. Only Declan Rice is more active than Trippier defensively, making him the World Cup’s top defenseman play on tomorrow’s slate.
Other Options: Daley Blind (DraftKings: $6.400, FanDuel $10), Walker Zimmerman (DraftKings: $3,600, FanDuel $10)
