WNBA Draft Draft Breakdown, Top-Three Picks + Best Bets with Seth

OK, folks, I am back, and it turns out we can but on the WNBA Draft on FanDuel. So I have decided to write a column to advise you on betting. For this breakdown I will mainly rely on FanDuel’s gambling odds.

First Overall Pick

Sabrina Ionescu is -20,000 to go No. 1. This is actually too cheap as this pick should be off the board. Essentially, this is a mortal lock. Ionescu is basically the LeBron James of the women’s game. She is the best woman player to come out in the last decade, so the Liberty are taking her. Do not bet anyone else or you will be throwing your money away.

Second Overall Pick

Again, we have a player I think is almost as close to a mortal lock as Ionescu is. In most other drafts, Satou Sabally would be the No. 1 overall pick. She is way too low here at -125, because of the presence of Lauren Cox, who is -110. While Cox is a strong prospect, there is one massive difference: Cox has some injury concerns as well suffering from Type 1 Diabetes. I feel Sabally is too low here, as every mock has Sabally to Dallas at No. 2. It is either going to be Sabally or Cox; there is nobody else that will be picked here.

Third Overall Pick

Here as well we have a massive favorite in Cox at -125 while Sabally is -105. I think Cox is the logical bet, but if you want to get frisky, this is the place to do it. The Indiana Fever have this pick and they took Teaira McCowan last year. Cox and McCowan are fairly similar players as both are defensive-minded forwards/centers. Indiana is also weak in the backcourt — Kelsey Mitchell and Tiffany Mitchell have their moments but by and large have struggled. So if you want to go a bit off-board, you could bet on Chennedy Carter from Texas A&M who is currently +500 in this spot. She is widely considered the best backcourt player in this draft. Carter is a creative point guard that can shoot and would fill a need for Indiana. Guard Tyasha Harris from South Carolina could also be in play here, though she is +2,500 in this spot. She has been mocked as high is No. 5, so I could see her sneaking in for Indiana at No. 3.

As of right now FanDuel only has odds on the top three. If they provide further odds, I will delve in the later picks.
