They are the ones who know how to read the numbers underneath it: the minutes, the value, the ownership, and the boom/bust profile that tells them whether a chalky projection is actually worth paying up for. Where The NBA DFS Data Lives
If you are already inside the Stokastic suite of Sims tools, look all the way to the left and click the tab that says data hub. That single page holds all of the NBA DFS data you need (projections, ownership, and the boom/bust numbers), so you are not bouncing across four different tabs to build a lineup.
Before you read a single projection, set the top of the page correctly, because the numbers change depending on where you are playing:
- Site — sort by DraftKings, FanDuel, Yahoo, or OwnersBox. Salaries, scoring, and roster rules differ across sites, so the projections and value shift with them. Always confirm you are on the site you are actually playing.
- Contest Type — choose classic or showdown. Single-game (showdown) contests use different roster and scoring rules, so that data loads separately.
- Slate — use the slate drop-down to pick the main slate, a turbo slate, a night slate, or any of the showdowns. The DataHub loads them all; you just point it at the one you are entering.
Get those three right and everything below them is the data for your exact contest.
The Core Projection Columns
Once the slate is set, the left side of the table is the straightforward stuff, the raw ingredients of a projection:

The two columns rookies skip and pros never do are minutes and FPPM. Projected fantasy points are just minutes multiplied by scoring rate, so a big total can come from a high-usage star (high FPPM) or from a role player soaking up minutes because someone ahead of him is out. Reading minutes and FPPM tells you why a projection is what it is, and whether one loose injury update could blow it up or double it.
The one habit that matters most: never trust a projected total until you have looked at the minutes and FPPM behind it. The same projected total means something very different when it is built on stable starter minutes versus when it rides on a rotation that could change with one inactive.
Value And Ownership: The Roster-Construction Layer
Next to the projection sit the two numbers that decide who actually makes your lineup:
- Value is how many fantasy points a player is expected to score per $1,000 of salary — the great equalizer between an expensive star and a cheap fill-in. When I am torn between a high-priced stud and a minimum-salary player stepping into starter minutes, value is the column that settles it: it tells me which one returns more production for the cap space he eats up. In cash games I stack the highest, safest value; in tournaments I will pay off some of that value for ceiling.
- Projected Ownership is the percentage of lineups expected to roster that player. This is the field's plan. The Sims Metrics That Separate Good Lineups From Great Ones
This is the part of the DataHub most players never learn to read, and it is the whole reason the tool exists. These columns come from the Stokastic simulations and the boom/bust tool, not from a single static projection:

One thing to keep straight: ceiling and floor are not the most or fewest points a player could conceivably score. They are the top and bottom of a normal game, the realistic range you should plan around. Two players can carry the identical projected total while one is a steady cash-game floor and the other a boom-or-bust tournament swing. The Sims columns are how you tell them apart. A Worked Read: Turning A Late Scratch Into A Value Play
Here is the sequence I actually run when NBA news breaks, straight off the DataHub. Say a team's starting point guard gets ruled out an hour before lock:
- Filter to that team. Open the filters, choose team, set it to contains, and type the team name. Now only that roster is on screen.
- Find who inherits the minutes. Look for the backup whose projected minutes just jumped. More minutes at a similar FPPM means a higher projected total than his salary was priced for.
- Check the value. That minutes bump usually spikes his value column, because his salary has not moved yet. A cheap player projected for starter minutes is exactly the salary relief that lets you afford studs elsewhere.
- Confirm the leverage. Glance at ownership versus optimal. If the Sims love him but the field has not caught up, that is a leverage play, not just a value play.

Sorting, Filtering, And Staying Current
The DataHub gives you a few tools to keep pace with the NBA injury cycle:
- Sort Any Column by clicking it, so you can pull value, ownership, minutes, or a specific position to the top. Sort by position when you are filling one roster slot.
- Last-Updated Timestamps sit in the top-right of the screen and show when the projections and ownership were each refreshed. This is the one I watch closest, because NBA lineups and inactives confirm late — often in the final hour before tip — so a projection that looked locked in the afternoon can swing on a single beat-writer post. My rule: if that timestamp is stale as lock approaches, I do not trust the numbers I read an hour ago. On nights with questionable tags still hanging, I re-open the DataHub for a fresh pull and build only off the last refresh before lock.
- Filters And Search are the real speed tools. Filter by team contains to isolate one roster, or player contains to pull up a single name (start typing "Mitchell" and Donovan Mitchell filters in). The search-player box does the same thing if you prefer it.
