Packers Running Back Week 1: A Starter Priced Like A Backup

Kalshi's contract on whether Josh Jacobs plays in Week 1 has printed between 2 and 4 cents since the morning after the league put him on the commissioner's exempt list, sits at 2 bid, 3 ask, and has not traded at all since Tuesday afternoon. The DraftKings Sunday main slate moved his tag to OUT and kept his salary: he is still listed at the $6,300 we logged in our August 1 look at Week 1 pricing, and the back Packer Central reports atop the rotation in his place, MarShawn Lloyd, is $4,800. The full board walks the legal record and three weeks of trade tape. This page is the DFS reading of the same market: the exchange answered one Green Bay question and has no contract on the one that decides your running back slot. The trade the Packers made the same afternoon tells you which question to price.

What The Market Settled, And What It Cannot Touch

The contract's rule is plain, "If Josh Jacobs plays in a Pro Football game in Week 1," and the fine print behind it says he must take at least one snap, even one nullified by penalty, for it to pay. Plays, not dresses. On Sunday, August 30, the day of the announcement, it traded from 87 cents down to 1 on about 15,800 contracts. On Monday it traded about 2,490 contracts between 2 and 4 cents. On Tuesday, about 1,720 contracts between 2 and 3. Since Tuesday at 4:19 p.m. Eastern, nothing. When the bid and ask sit a penny apart and nobody has crossed either since Tuesday afternoon, the exchange has stopped arguing.

Kalshi has no contract on Lloyd, Kaleb Johnson or Chris Brooks. The only Green Bay question on the board is answered; everything left is a DraftKings question.

The Board, Read For Sunday

Prices are resting bid and ask from Kalshi's "Player to Play in Week 1" board as of September 3, 2026, 16:04 UTC. DraftKings salaries and tags are from the Sunday main slate (12 games, first kickoff 1 p.m. Eastern, September 13; Packers at Vikings kicks at 4:25). The rows are the running backs on the board, plus the three Green Bay backs in the reported rotation, none of whom the exchange prices (DraftKings lists three more Packers backs at the $4,000 minimum).

gaming.nv.gov/siteassets/content/about/press-release/ninth-circuit-rules-in-favor-of-nevada.pdf) Nevada can regulate them as sports bets); it requires users to be 18+ under its own platform policy, and availability varies by state as of September 2026.

Lloyd's row is the one that decides a lineup. $4,800 is the 38th running back salary on a slate with 24 teams, so 24 lead backs: he is 38th of the 71 backs priced above the $4,000 minimum, shared with three others and one slot under Alvin Kamara, Tyler Allgeier and Tank Bigsby at $4,900, and he is the most expensive usable back in his own room. On a 12-game slate that is a flex price, and as of Wednesday he is the named starter. Jacobs, meanwhile, carries an OUT tag at the same $6,300 he carried on August 1, a salary nobody can use. Jeanty and Jeremiyah Love are a different problem: priced as starters while their contracts sit near 60 cents. The exchange is pricing today's doubt; both play in the 4:25 window, and DraftKings lets you swap an unlocked player until his own game kicks off, so their inactives post while your 1 p.m. players are already running. That makes them a late-swap decision, not a fade.

A Starter Priced Like A Backup

Lloyd's professional record is six carries and one reception. He played one game as a rookie in 2024 and took zero snaps in 2025; he has missed 33 of 34 possible regular-season games, per DraftKings Network. This preseason he carried 10 times for 30 yards across two games and caught an 11-yard touchdown pass against Denver. General manager Brian Gutekunst told packers.com on Wednesday that Lloyd is "as ready as he's ever been since he's been here." Asked about the workload, Matt LaFleur told ESPN: "That's to be determined," adding, "He's had a really steady camp."

The workload behind that audition: Jacobs carried 234 times for 929 yards and 13 touchdowns in 15 games last season and caught 36 passes, on a Packers offense that ranked seventh in rushing attempts and tied for 11th in rushing touchdowns. Nobody in this backfield has handled a fraction of that.

Now the trade. The full board read Green Bay's Sunday deal for Kaleb Johnson as the timeline tell: a team trading for a back the afternoon its starter was frozen is planning for more than a one-week absence, which is consistent with a 3-cent contract even if it proves nothing about the league's timeline. ESPN reported Wednesday what the Packers paid: a sixth-round pick in 2028. For a lineup, that cost reads the other way. A 2028 sixth is what a team pays for insurance, not for a Week 1 starter. The counter-read deserves its sentence: a sixth is also what Pittsburgh charges to clear a back who had fallen behind Jaylen Warren and Kenneth Gainwell, so the price says as much about Johnson's stock in Pittsburgh as about Green Bay's calendar. Either way, nobody trades a late pick for a man they expect to start in ten days. Johnson arrives with 28 carries for 69 yards as a rookie. Brooks, at $4,500, is the third-down protector who ran 27 times for 106 yards last year. Week 1 reads as Lloyd's job; the trade reads as October's.

Ownership is where that gets expensive. Lloyd has one regular-season game and seven touches to his name, so the field's share of a $4,800 named starter will be driven by the headline, not by a workload anyone has watched, and that is the shape of chalk that busts. The build rule that falls out of it: Lloyd in cash games at $4,800, because the floor is the role and the other rotation backs in his room cost $4,500 and $4,400; Johnson as a small tournament-only hedge, and only if you believe the new arrival rotates into the carries LaFleur has not assigned; Brooks off the card, because a pass protector's snaps do not turn into DraftKings points. Our Week 1 ownership projection posts in the NFL DFS projections, ownership and stacks in the DataHub before lock; until it does, this is a mechanism, not a number.

The Game Line Has Not Moved Since The News

Kalshi's winner contract has Minnesota at 52 cents bid, 53 ask, and Green Bay at 46 bid, 48 ask. On August 31, the morning after the news, those read 53 and 54 for the Vikings and 46 and 48 for the Packers, so the Jacobs news was already in the price by then; the Vikings have drifted a cent since and the Packers have not moved. The exchange cannot show you the pre-news line, so a flat quote is not the crowd shrugging, and it is not a clean Jacobs read either: Micah Parsons is on short-term injured reserve and will miss at least the first four games, per Yahoo Sports, so the Packers' 46-cent quote should be carrying two absences, not one, and it did not flinch at the second. Minnesota by more than 2.5 points trades at 45 bid, 48 ask, by more than 6.5 at 28 and 30, and the total sits on 45.5, with the over at 50 bid, 52 ask. A slight home favorite with a mid-40s total is not a shootout script, and with $117,000 of face value on the Green Bay side and $43,000 on Minnesota's, this is the most liquid market on the Packers board. Lloyd's Sunday is carries and goal-line work in a game the market expects to stay close, and quarterback Jordan Love, quoted by Heavy on Thursday, put it plainly: "I don't think as an offense it changes what we'll be doing." The Week 1 NFL predictions board prices every game this way.

The Bottom Line

The exchange and the salary ladder now say different things about the same backfield: Kalshi priced Jacobs out of Week 1 in one Sunday afternoon and has not traded him since Tuesday, while DraftKings still carries his August 1 salary under an OUT tag and lists the man who replaced him 38th among running backs. That gap is the edge, and it has an expiry. It holds while Lloyd is the named starter without a tag and the game line sits near a coin flip; it flips to Johnson the moment a Friday report puts him ahead of Lloyd, and it dies if DraftKings reprices the room before Sunday. Where ownership makes Lloyd the chalk, Johnson at $4,400 is the tournament share of the same backfield.
