FanDuel MLB DFS Cheat Sheet: Sept. 15 Picks And Stacks

The September 15 FanDuel MLB DFS cheat sheet wants the same bats as the field and a different arm. Four Padres carry the hitting into Coors Field; the single pitcher seat decides the rest.

The Quick Answer

Stack San Diego and take Sean Manaea over Logan Gilbert. SD vs COL leads the 4-stacks at 20.7% exposure, more than the next two teams combined, with three Padres on the ownership panel. Manaea is No. 2 in leverage at 28.4%; Gilbert is the chalk arm at 25.6% owned. The Kyle Freeland split behind all of it is below.

Tonight's Board For September 15

The stack row is the one to read. San Diego's 20.7% beats Arizona (10.7%) and Seattle (8.7%) combined, and Colorado's starter is why: Kyle Freeland has allowed 21 of his 24 home runs to right-handed hitters, who are batting .306 with a .926 OPS against him. Tatis, Machado, Xander Bogaerts and Austin Hays all hit right-handed, at Coors Field, a 113 home run park factor. FanDuel pays 12 for a homer. The same game turns up again at No. 5, COL vs SD at 4.0% against Walker Buehler's 4.61 ERA, so the Sims are buying the ballpark and not only the Padres.

One Pitcher Slot, Two Strikeout Matchups

FanDuel rosters a single pitcher, so that seat carries most of your variance, and tonight the same matchup profile is available at two ownership prices. Gilbert leads the board in projection at 33.52 against an Angels lineup that strikes out 25.3% of the time, second most in baseball, and at 27.3% he carries the highest strikeout rate of the five arms on the board. Hence the 25.6% ownership. But he lands on two of the six panels and no others: outside the top five in top-150 exposure, cutoff 40.0%, and outside the top five in leverage, cutoff 21.8%.

Manaea clears both, and he is the worse pitcher: 21.6% strikeouts to Gilbert's 27.3%, a 4.79 ERA to a 3.72. The board is charging for that gap twice over. Baltimore strikes out 24.7% of the time, third most, and the Mets lefty sits third in exposure at 44.7% and second in leverage at 28.4%. Back ownership out of those two and you land near 16%, a figure the board does not print. Same opponent class, a fraction of the attention, at 3 points per strikeout and 6 for the win.

Worked Example: Four Padres At Coors

FanDuel caps you at four hitters from one team, which is why this panel reads Top 4-Stacks while DraftKings runs five, the core difference between the two sites. Seat by seat:

• Machado At Third, Bogaerts At Short. The right-handed bats Freeland's split punishes most.
• Tatis In An Outfield Seat. The board's highest exposure at 62.7% against 37.8% ownership.
• Hays In The Utility Seat. The board's top value at 4.57 and San Diego's designated hitter, the fourth and last Padre the cap allows.
• Cal Raleigh At Catcher. A 23.1% leverage play against Ryan Johnson, who has allowed 18 home runs in 84.1 innings.
• Ketel Marte At Second. Top leverage play at 28.6%, roughly 11% owned by that same derivation. He is where an Arizona secondary stack starts against Janson Junk; pair him with Diamondbacks bats in the open seats if you want the 10.7% correlation.
• Two Open Outfield Seats, neither of them a Padre once the four-man cap is spent, from the MLB DFS projections, ownership and stacks in the DataHub.
• Manaea At Pitcher, out of a different game than the stack.
