Deebo Samuel Injury: 49ers Super Bowl Odds Did Not Move
By Sam Smith
October 12, 2026

Deebo Samuel is listed out on the 49ers' injury feed, and running a three-week absence through the Season Engine moves nothing at all. Not a tenth of a win, not a point of playoff probability, not a decimal on the Super Bowl line. San Francisco is 5-0 and the board does not flinch. The argument it does want to have is about the title price itself.
What The Injury Did To The Board

| 49ers | Baseline | Samuel out three weeks |
|---|---|---|
| Average wins | 12.3 | 12.3 |
| Make the playoffs | 89% | 89% |
| Win the NFC West | 51% | 51% |
| Winning record (9 or more) | 95% | 95% |
| Win the Super Bowl | 8.1% | 8.1% |
When the Texans traded for Marvin Harrison Jr. yesterday the board at least registered a tenth of a win. Here the storyline returns the baseline.
Why Three Weeks Of A Receiver Rounds To Zero
The engine is fit to Kalshi win totals, and San Francisco's sits at 12.3 wins with five of them already banked. Three games without one receiver, on a team projected to win 12, is smaller than the resolution the model reports in.
Look at the shape of what is left. The playoff line is 89%, the winning-record line is 95%, and both are close to settled. There is no room above them for an injury to take anything meaningful away, because the only direction those numbers can travel is down from near-certainty, and three weeks does not get there.
The division is the one line with room, at 51%, and it does not move either. That is the engine saying the race is about the Rams, not about San Francisco's receiver room.
The Engine Has A 2-2 Team Ahead Of A 5-0 Team
This is the number that should stop you.
| NFC West | Record | Engine wins | Engine Super Bowl | Kalshi |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Los Angeles Rams | 2-2 | 11.1 | 15% | 12¢ |
| San Francisco 49ers | 5-0 | 12.3 | 8.1% | 12¢ |
| Seattle Seahawks | 3-2 | 10.4 | 7.4% | 9¢ |
| Arizona Cardinals | 1-4 | 4.6 | under 1% | 1¢ |
The Rams are 2-2 and the engine gives them 15% to win the Super Bowl. The 49ers are 5-0 and it gives them 8.1%. A team three games worse in the standings is nearly twice as likely to win it all.
The engine is not confused about who is better right now. It has San Francisco at 12.3 projected wins against the Rams' 11.1, and 89% to reach the playoffs against 79%. It simply does not convert the 49ers' regular season into January the way it converts the Rams'.
Where The Market Disagrees
Kalshi prices both teams at 12 cents, which splits the difference and sides with neither.
That leaves two gaps. On San Francisco the engine is four points below the market, 8.1% against 12 cents, and it is taking that position on the only undefeated team in the division. On the Rams it is three points above, 15% against the same 12.
The division line is the cleaner one. The engine has San Francisco at 51% to win the NFC West and Kalshi has 55 cents, a four-point gap on a 5-0 team that has already banked a third of its season. If you think a five-game head start matters more than the engine does, that is the contract that expresses it, and it is a shorter path than arguing about a title in February.
Ask It Yourself
The three-week absence was one line of text typed into the ask box on the 49ers page. The same box takes a longer absence, a different player, a trade, or a plain question, and a null result like this one is an answer rather than a failure: it tells you the thing you were worried about is not the thing that decides the season.
Pick a team and try the version that does move: sit a quarterback, or hand the Rams the division, and watch which rows react.
Every team has a page, and the full week-by-week board is on the NFL win projections page.
About The Numbers
The Season Engine is fit to Kalshi win totals, so its baseline is calibrated to market prices rather than set independently, and Kalshi prices appear beside each projection. Prices are quoted in cents, which read as percentages. The storyline column is the engine's own output for a three-week Samuel absence with every other input left alone; it returned the baseline on every row, which is why both columns match. Division percentages are rounded, and Super Bowl percentages across one division can exceed the division's own numbers because a wild card team can win it. Deebo Samuel appears on the 49ers' injury feed with a status of Out dated October 12, with no detail or expected return published there. All figures are from the 49ers' Season Engine page as of Monday, October 12, 2026, and both the engine and the market move.
