Frontrunner for Washington Football Team Nickname Emerging

The team formerly known as the Redskins has been in arduous process of selecting another nickname. Part of the reason they decided to ditch their last name was due to corporate pressure, and Daniel Snyder probably figured his team could use a reboot, especially with all the reports of a toxic culture. Now it appears the team may be closing in on a nickname. According to the Washington Post, more than 40,000 people have voted for the Red Wolves.

Via Washington Post:

“More than 40,000 fans of the Washington Football Team have suggested new names to replace the old one that shall go unmentioned. This writer, a longtime season ticket holder, has a preference. It would link the team’s future with its once-glorious past without offending Native Americans or anyone else. The Washington Red Wolves.”

Twitter reacted to the front runner:

A team website lists a handful of “featured fan submissions,” complete with uniform designs.

They include Revolution, Memorials, Owls and Rhinos, along with Redwolves, Warriors and Redtails.

At this point, they should probably just stick with the Washington Football Team. They made the  playoffs last year, and it certainly helps them stand out.

Snyder will figure out a way to screw things up,  so it really doesn’t matter what they’re called.
