DraftKings MLB DFS Cheat Sheet: Sept. 15 Picks And Stacks

Tonight's free DraftKings MLB DFS cheat sheet hands the slate's most-owned player, Sean Manaea at 31.6% ownership, the biggest top-150 exposure number on the sheet as well: 56.0%. On the site that makes you roster two pitchers instead of one, that settles my whole pitching side. One left-hander in Colorado settles the bats.

The Quick Answer

Play Manaea and Logan Gilbert as the two DraftKings arms. Manaea prints the sheet's No. 2 leverage row at 24.4% on 56.0% top-150 exposure, and Gilbert tops projections at 18.1 with the best strikeout rate of the five arms on that panel, 27.3% of batters faced. Stack five Padres against Kyle Freeland at Coors Field: San Diego leads the 5-stack panel at 11.3%, Fernando Tatis Jr. leads leverage at 25.1%. Hunter Brown is the arm I leave alone, off both the exposure and leverage panels. What Freeland has done to right-handed hitters is below.

Today's Board For Sept. 15

Every game today starts at 6:40 PM ET or later, so nothing locks early. All five rows of all six panels:

Boston's Jahmai Jones and San Francisco's Scott Bandura tie at the top of the value panel at 3.15, and only Jones turns up anywhere else on the sheet, fourth in leverage at 19.5%. The other four value rows wash out. The Stokastic Sims build a lineup pool, simulate it against a real tournament field thousands of times and rank every lineup by simulated ROI, and the exposure column is the top 150 of those lineups; a high value row on its own rarely survives that ranking. Jones is the one that did.

Two Arms, And One Fade

DraftKings rosters two pitchers, so this sheet settles more of the build than FanDuel's does, and the strikeout matchups explain the exposure column better than the projections do. Manaea carries the lowest strikeout rate of the five arms on the projections panel, 21.6% of batters faced, and the sheet's highest exposure, because he hosts Baltimore, baseball's third-highest strikeout offense at 24.7% of plate appearances. Gilbert draws the Angels, second at 25.3%. Brown sits third in projection at 16.2 and fourth in ownership at 19.4%, yet under the exposure panel's 30.0% cutoff and under leverage's 15.8% floor, against a Kansas City lineup 25th in strikeout rate at 20.8%. Gilbert misses that leverage floor too, but the two-pitcher rule means I am playing both anyway.

Worked Example: Tatis's Leverage Row To A Padres Five

Tatis is first in leverage at 25.1% and second in exposure at 46.7% on 20.9% ownership, and the arm across from him is why. Freeland carries a 6.37 ERA and 1.74 home runs per nine, and 21 of the 24 homers he has allowed went to right-handed hitters, who are batting .306 with a .926 OPS against him. Every Padre on this board bats right-handed, at Coors Field. My entry:

1. Arms: Manaea and Gilbert, neither pitching in Colorado.
2. The five: Tatis in the outfield, Machado at third, Bogaerts at short, Hays, and a fifth bat from the MLB DFS projections, ownership and stacks in the DataHub. Confirm Hays's DraftKings slot, since a designated hitter does not always carry an outfield tag.
3. Secondary: three Diamondbacks, the No. 2 stack at 7.3%, against Miami's Janson Junk and his 15.7% strikeout rate; Nootbaar's 2.85 value row funds it, though he is listed at designated hitter as well, so check his tag before you count him as one of the three.

That is 5-3, the shape the Sims pre-load as DraftKings research, and it fills all eight hitter seats. Five from one team is the cap, pitchers exempt, and correlation is the only reason a 5-stack panel exists.

Both arms everywhere, five Padres behind them, three Diamondbacks in the last three seats. Manaea's printed 24.4% leverage row is what I am paid for tonight: the field found him at 31.6% and the Sims still want 56.0%. Name the failure mode, because double chalk always carries one. If Baltimore's strikeouts do not arrive and Manaea leaves early, no Padres stack bails that lineup out.
