1. Ricky Pearsall Is Out for the Year, and Deebo Samuel Is Officially a 49er Again

After lengthy discussions with doctors, 49ers WR Ricky Pearsall is expected to undergo season-ending surgery on the nagging PCL injury that dates back to last season, GM John Lynch told reporters, with a full recovery expected (@AdamSchefter). The recovery timeline is about nine months, the same window as an ACL (@RapSheet). San Francisco officially signed Deebo Samuel Sr. to a one-year deal and placed Pearsall on injured reserve in the corresponding move (@AdamSchefter). It looked far worse in the moment: the potential starting safety was helped off unable to put much weight on his right foot (@JoeBuscaglia). Dion Dawkins, who stayed next to Gardner-Johnson the whole time, said coaches passed word during practice that he was OK (@JoeBuscaglia).

4. Lions Sign Devin White With Jimmy Rolder Set to Miss Time

Detroit signed former All-Pro LB Devin White to a one-year deal; White made 17 starts for the Raiders last season with 174 tackles, third most in the NFL (@Schultz_Report), and the team made it official within hours (@AdamSchefter). 5. Geno Smith Throws a Perfect Practice

Geno Smith went 11-of-11 with three touchdowns in 11-on-11 and 4-of-4 with another score in 7-on-7, and the ball never hit the ground (@ZackBlatt). Atlanta Falcons

New York Giants

• Play of the day: Odell Beckham Jr. sliding in the back of the end zone for a touchdown from Jameis Winston, met with the summer's biggest roar (@art_stapleton, @JordanRaanan). Beckham also shared a pregame hug with owner John Mara, who remains a big fan (@art_stapleton).
• Up-and-down day for Jaxson Dart: a 50-yard opening bomb to Malachi Fields, who beat Newsome and keeps earning starter reps, plus a beautiful touch pass to Theo Johnson, but also a pair of interceptions to Paulson Adebo (@Connor_J_Hughes, @JordanRaanan).

Vikings Quarterback Battle: How to Read the Reps

Saturday gave us the cleanest single-day read yet in Minnesota, and the reason is not the highlight reel. Three independent beat writers converged on the same conclusion: Kyler Murray threw with anticipation and rarely put the ball on the ground (@WillRagatz), it was by far his best and sharpest day (@SeifertESPN), and, most tellingly, he took most of the snaps with the first team while J.J. McCarthy worked with the 2s and fought his timing (@alec_lewis). That last detail is the one our projections care about. One sharp throwing day is noise; the coaching staff's snap distribution is signal, because it shows who the staff wants to evaluate against starters. The test now is persistence: if McCarthy claws back first-team share in the next padded practice, Saturday was rotation. If Murray keeps the 1s, the battle is quietly resolving, and Justin Jefferson drafters should be paying very close attention.
