Yesterday's Five Biggest Stories
1. Deshaun Watson Threw His Eighth Interception in Nine Days
Cleveland's quarterback competition keeps producing the same headline. Mary Kay Cabot's count has Deshaun Watson at eight interceptions across nine days of camp (@UnderdogNFL), and Zac Jackson's summary after the ninth practice was that neither passer has separated (@AkronJackson).
The rep allocation is the thing to watch rather than the turnover count. Daniel Oyefusi reported Watson went first with the starting offense in some team drills even though the rotation had it as Shedeur Sanders' day with the ones, and Todd Monken explained the swap as deliberate — Sanders had done the same earlier in the week — so both quarterbacks bank first-team work regardless of whose day it is (@DanielOyefusi). That is a staff protecting optionality, not a staff that has decided.
Nine days of even reps with a turnover gap this wide is the least comfortable version of a quarterback competition, and every Browns pass-catcher's August price is still waiting on the answer. Our projections keep the Cleveland passing game in a wide band until the reps stop splitting.
2. The Guard Market Reset Twice Before Lunch
Two interior linemen rewrote their tier on the same day. Tennessee and Peter Skoronski agreed to a four-year, $100 million extension with $88 million locked in, making the former No. 11 overall pick the highest-paid guard in the NFL (@RapSheet) — the deal Adam Schefter framed simply as the league's new top of the position (@AdamSchefter). The Titans announced it as a multi-year extension keeping him in Nashville (@Titans).
Hours earlier, Buffalo had already moved: O'Cyrus Torrence signed a four-year, $78.4 million extension with more than $46 million locked in, slotting in as the seventh-highest-paid guard (@AdamSchefter, @RapSheet), with the Bills confirming he is signed through 2030 (@BuffaloBills). Ian Rapoport's summary of the last few months at the position was the fair one — quite an offseason for guards (@RapSheet). Getzenberg has more on the Buffalo end at ESPN (@AdamSchefter).
Guards do not go in fantasy drafts, but continuity in front of Cam Ward and Josh Allen does show up in sack rate and in how often a quarterback gets to his second read.
3. Kirk Cousins and Maxx Crosby Had to Be Pulled Apart in Las Vegas
The Raiders' two-minute period boiled over. Maxx Crosby tipped a Kirk Cousins pass in the backfield, Cousins got in his face, grabbed his collar, and a shouting match followed (@samwarren83); Schefter carried the scuffle via Ryan McFadden's reporting (@AdamSchefter).
The reps around it are the useful part. Cousins was intercepted twice in team work, one of them the ball Crosby tipped to Jeremy Chinn and the other a floater to Hezekiah Masses in the end zone (@samwarren83). Levi Edwards logged the offense's best stretch coming in 12-personnel with an active day for Brock Bowers (@theleviedwards), and Warren had both Bowers and Michael Mayer making plays with Cousins in team periods, plus continued rotation at right guard and some first-team work for Stukes (@samwarren83). Two tight ends on the field as the offense's most productive personnel grouping is a real signal for Bowers' route volume, and it is worth more to a draft board than the shoving match that led the highlight shows.
One piece of context to hold loosely: Crosby's situation was already being discussed before Friday. Schefter's podcast episode description flags when Crosby could be dealt (@AdamSchefter), and at least one analyst spent the afternoon arguing the Raiders should move him immediately (@rjochoa). That is speculation rather than reporting, and a practice scuffle is thin evidence for anything — but it is the backdrop the scuffle landed against.
4. Stefon Diggs Signed, Practiced, and Went Straight to Work With Jayden Daniels
Washington's receiver room changed shape in a single morning. Stefon Diggs officially signed with the Commanders before practice (@AdamSchefter) and was on the field the same day (@Commanders), taking his first reps in Ashburn (@JPFinlayNBCS) and speaking to the media afterward (@Commanders). The agreement itself ran in the August 6 edition; this was the first time he practiced.
The detail that matters most for fantasy is what happened after the whistle: Nicki Jhabvala reported Diggs stayed out for extra reps with Jayden Daniels and appeared to talk through route detail with him once practice ended (@NickiJhabvala). A veteran receiver building timing with a young starter on day one is a useful early signal that Washington wants him integrated now rather than eased in, and Jhabvala's read on the pairing alongside Terry McLaurin was blunt enough — not a bad duo (@NickiJhabvala). Diggs also went out of his way to flag rookie Antonio Williams, saying the young receiver "can hoop a little bit" (@JPFinlayNBCS), and set his own tone with a three-word summary of the move: gratitude eliminates entitlement (@JPFinlayNBCS). John Keim's practice write-up covers the debut and the Daniels-to-McLaurin connection in the same session (@john_keim).
The honest caveat: one practice does not settle a target share. What it does settle is that Washington intends to use him now rather than ease him in, and our projections treat the McLaurin-Diggs split as the live question in this offense rather than a solved one.
5. Jaxson Dart's Best Day as a Giant, and Cam Skattebo Limped Off
The Giants' first-team offense closed practice with its best drive of the summer, a march that started deep in its own territory, included a pair of Theo Johnson catches and several Dante Miller plays, and ended with a two-yard touchdown to Darius Slayton (@JordanRaanan). Art Stapleton called it Jaxson Dart's best practice of camp — more decisive against pressure, proper reads, and the ball on the ground only once through the final period against a mix of first- and second-team defenders (@art_stapleton). Dan Duggan clocked the drive at 13 plays to the three-yard line, with a fourth-down checkdown to Miller supplying the big gain (@DDuggan21).
It cost them something. Cam Skattebo went down after a collision with linebacker Arvell Reese, stretched his left leg on the sideline and did not return, though he stayed at practice (@JordanRaanan, @UnderdogNFL); Stapleton described Reese popping him in a run fit and then running him down from the back side on the next snap (@art_stapleton). Separately, Malachi Fields has made what Duggan called an early claim on the WR2 job opposite Malik Nabers (@UnderdogNFL).

Team-by-Team Camp Notes
Arizona Cardinals
- The morning after belonged to Carson Beck. Per Josh Weinfuss at ESPN, the rookie finished 15-of-19 for 188 yards and a touchdown for a 125.4 rating in Arizona's 33-30 Hall of Fame Game loss to Carolina (@AdamSchefter).
- Donnie Druin's follow-ups pulled six takeaways from the opener, including Beck and BJ Ojulari (@DonnieDruin), plus a winners-and-losers pass on the same night (@DonnieDruin).
Atlanta Falcons
- Atlanta released linebacker Troy Andersen and signed receiver Kristian Wilkerson in a corresponding move (@AtlantaFalcons). Will McFadden noted the former second-round pick flashed real ability when available but never stayed healthy (@willmcfadden).
- The team's feed carried Bijan Robinson back at work (@AtlantaFalcons) and a Drake London touchdown from practice (@AtlantaFalcons).
Baltimore Ravens
- Players were off Friday and return for an 11 a.m. Saturday practice, with the preseason opener against Philadelphia eight days out; Jamison Hensley's recap covers where camp stands (@jamisonhensley).
- Off-field color: footballer Ferran Torres spent the day at the Castle (@Ravens).
Buffalo Bills
- O'Cyrus Torrence's four-year, $78.4 million extension is the headline (full story above), locking the right guard in through 2030 (@BuffaloBills).
- Matt Parrino and Ryan Talbot closed the Fisher portion of camp with observations flagging Josh Palmer trending up, an open QB2 competition, standouts along the defensive line and a surging undrafted defensive back (@MattParrino).
- The team is a day from opening Highmark Stadium to fans (@BuffaloBills).
Carolina Panthers
- Haynes King won the Hall of Fame Game with his legs. Schefter had the rookie 21-of-34 with two touchdown passes and 39 rushing yards, including the game-winning score (@AdamSchefter); note that Schefter's two posts list different passing yardage totals for the same line (@AdamSchefter), so treat the yardage as unsettled and the result as the point (@Panthers).
- Joseph Person addressed what comes next for the rookie quarterback and ran his own winners and losers from the night (@josephperson), and PFF took a data pass at the win (@PFF).
- With Chris Brazzell out for the year, Mike Kaye makes the case that John Metchie is finding a groove after lining up for four teams in 12 months (@mike_e_kaye). That is the depth-chart opening worth tracking in this receiver room.
- Luke Kuechly received his gold jacket (@Panthers, @Panthers).
Chicago Bears
- Chicago lost defensive back Dallis Flowers to injured reserve and replaced him with 10-year veteran safety Xavier Woods, who has started 121 games (@BradBiggs). Jacob Infante notes Woods started 10 games with two interceptions for Tennessee last season and gives Dennis Allen a defender who can play the box and the slot (@jacobinfante24).
- Luther Burden III's route running was the clip of the day on both the team feed (@ChicagoBears) and the national one (@UnderdogNFL).
Cincinnati Bengals
- The usage note first: Charlie Goldsmith's notebook leads with the expansion of Chase Brown's game and the template behind it, alongside a positive camp for TJ Slaton and the receiver and cornerback battles, including a deep dive on Colbie Young (@CharlieG__). A back whose role is being widened rather than protected is the version of Brown that supports a bigger touch share.
- Joe Burrow's best throw of camp was a deep ball on the money to Ja'Marr Chase (@Trags), and he completed another to Chase with Dexter Lawrence bull-rushing through the pocket (@Trags).
Cleveland Browns
- Nine days in, no separation in the quarterback competition (full story above), with Deshaun Watson taking first-team reps on a day scheduled for Shedeur Sanders (@DanielOyefusi, @AkronJackson).
- Cleveland placed center/guard Kendrick Green on injured reserve with an undisclosed injury, ending his season barring a settlement (@ASaunders_PGH).
Dallas Cowboys
- CeeDee Lamb addressed his drops directly, saying he loses track of the fundamentals when he starts thinking about the big play instead of the catch (@jonmachota). Receivers who diagnose their own drop mechanics in August are a better bet than ones who wave it off.
- Schefter flagged first-round pick Caleb Downs as a rookie with a chance to make a significant early impact on the Dallas defense (@AdamSchefter).
Denver Broncos
- Rookie running back Jonah Coleman broke off what Cody Roark called the best run by any Denver back in pads this camp (@CodyRoarkNFL). In a backfield still sorting itself, that is the kind of rep that earns a bigger package.
- Denver signed receiver Kyre Duplessis (@Broncos), and Nik Bonitto landed at No. 32 on the NFL Top 100 (@Broncos).
Detroit Lions
- Still the story in Detroit: Jahmyr Gibbs officially signed his three-year extension (@AdamSchefter), with the team marking it as done (@Lions). The terms ran in the August 7 edition.
- Detroit also signed veteran defensive tackle Ben Stille to a one-year deal (@AdamSchefter).
Green Bay Packers
- Matthew Golden won his one-on-one matchups with Keisean Nixon decisively, including a long catch (@mattschneidman, @RobDemovsky). Repeatedly winning isolation reps against a starting corner is the cleanest evidence a young receiver can generate in August.
- Kicker Trey Smack's Family Night line was 6-of-7, missing only from 51 (@mattschneidman, @BillHuberNFL).
- Bill Huber's winners and losers from Family Night is headlined by a new starting competition on the offensive line (@BillHuberNFL).
Houston Texans
- Receiver Jaylin Noel was activated from the Non-Football Injury list (@AdamSchefter, @HoustonTexans).
- Tank Dell, on where his return stands, called it nothing short of a blessing and framed the work as trusting his footing again (@UnderdogNFL).
Indianapolis Colts
- Cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt was suspended one game for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy (@AdamSchefter).
- Kevin Bowen's Thursday notebook has a player "on fire right now," another injury for a key rookie, and a reserve running back flashing (@KBowen1070).
Jacksonville Jaguars
- The backfield split in Friday's scrimmage is the most actionable Jaguars note of the week, per John Shipley: Bhayshul Tuten started the first drive and came off on third down for LeQuint Allen, while Chris Rodriguez Jr. started the second drive before rotating (@UnderdogNFL). One scrimmage is not a depth chart, but that split points toward a committee if the pattern holds.
- Parker Washington had six receptions including two third-down grabs and a touchdown, which Shipley described as simply another day for him at this point (@UnderdogNFL).
- After 14 years with the organization, longtime team media staffer J.P. Shadrick worked his last day (@jpshadrick).
Kansas City Chiefs
- Andy Reid is leaning against playing Patrick Mahomes in the preseason opener as he manages a knee (@UnderdogNFL, @ByNateTaylor, @pgsween).
- Receiver Cyrus Allen, who had stood out earlier in camp before bruising his shin, returned to practice (@AdamSchefter).
Las Vegas Raiders
- Kirk Cousins and Maxx Crosby had to be separated (full story above), and Cousins threw two interceptions in team work (@samwarren83, @AdamSchefter).
- Usage note: the offense's most productive stretch came in 12-personnel with Brock Bowers active throughout, and Michael Mayer also made plays with Cousins (@theleviedwards, @samwarren83).
- The right guard rotation continued, with Stukes getting first-team reps (@samwarren83).
Los Angeles Chargers
- A quiet day on the Chargers wire — the only Los Angeles item to clear our filters was a post from the team's own account (@chargers).
Los Angeles Rams
- Myles Garrett looks ready for Week 1, per Allen Sales' practice video (@UnderdogNFL).
Miami Dolphins
- Jeff Hafley gave an update on rookie receiver Chris Bell's rehab and whether he could be activated during the preseason, alongside other injury notes (@DavidFurones_).
- Roster moves: Miami signed safety Tanner Wall and claimed cornerback Ahmari Harvey off waivers from Pittsburgh, while waiving quarterback Mark Gronowski and placing safety Omar Brown on waived/injured (@MiamiDolphins).
Minnesota Vikings
- The rep count is the story: Kyler Murray has taken roughly two-thirds of the first-team snaps in 11-on-11 work over J.J. McCarthy, which Kevin Seifert attributes partly to Murray's relative inexperience in the system before naming a reversal in the coming week as the thing to watch (@UnderdogNFL). Through seven practices Seifert still has him as the heavy favorite (@SeifertESPN). Full breakdown in the battle spotlight below.
- Will Ragatz argues Minnesota's quintet of defensive rookies has a chance to be special, with the caveat that they have not played a game yet (@WillRagatz).
New England Patriots
- A.J. Brown says the Patriots need to practice against another team because the offense and defense keep coming close to spilling over (@ByMarkDaniels). That is a request for joint practices, and it follows a week of escalating one-on-one heat in Foxborough.
- Friday was a blue-versus-white intra-squad scrimmage, which Mike Reiss flagged the moment Brown arrived carrying pads with a blue jersey rather than his usual white (@MikeReiss, @Patriots).
- Adam Vinatieri received his Pro Football Hall of Fame gold jacket (@Patriots).
New Orleans Saints
- Defensive tackle Bryan Bresee, who tore his ACL, was officially placed on season-ending injured reserve (@AdamSchefter).
- New Orleans signed veteran linebacker Deion Jones to a one-year deal — a New Orleans native and LSU product who will now have played for every NFC South team (@AdamSchefter).
- Drew Brees received his gold jacket ahead of Saturday's enshrinement, and the team's feed spent the night on it (@Saints, @Saints); Nick Underhill has Michael Thomas reflecting on their connection (@nick_underhill).
New York Giants
- Jaxson Dart's best practice of camp and Cam Skattebo's leg injury led the day (full story above) (@art_stapleton, @JordanRaanan).
- Malik Nabers looked the best he has all summer — sharper cuts, jumping and landing on the affected leg, crisper routes — with the next step described as working him back into practice more (@JordanRaanan).
- Odell Beckham Jr. took another fully padded practice with no physical drop-off, and Duggan notes he and Nabers usually go last in individual drills, which gives the beat a direct comparison (@art_stapleton, @DDuggan21).
- Abdul Carter had two sacks by Stapleton's count, one on a speed rush that left All-Pro Andrew Thomas grabbing air (@art_stapleton).
New York Jets
- Garrett Wilson caught everything thrown his way, high-pointing one away from AZ Thomas for his fifth reception of practice, with Connor Hughes reporting zero incompletions when Geno Smith targeted him (@Connor_J_Hughes). That was a mid-practice note rather than a final line, but a starting quarterback going unmissed to his No. 1 is the connection you want forming in early August.
- Robby Sabo's notes from a no-pads Friday flag continued struggles for the non-Geno quarterbacks, a defensive line thinned by injuries, and scheduled veteran rest days (@RobbySabo).
Philadelphia Eagles
- Tackle Lane Johnson returned to the team and was expected to practice after roughly a week away on an excused, non-injury designation (@MikeGarafolo).
- Rep movement worth logging: Markel Bell, not Fred Johnson, took first-team right tackle reps again (@BrandonGowton), and second-round tight end Eli Stowers got his first first-team rep of camp in a team drill (@BKubena).
- Jalen Hurts opened the starters' first series with three completions on three throws, including chunk gains on timing routes to Dallas Goedert and Darius Cooper (@EJSmith94), then found Cooper again in a tight window over the middle (@BrandonGowton). Cooper's name keeps appearing next to first-team reps.
- Brandon Gowton's practice notes have the backup quarterback battle heating up (@BrandonGowton), and Jimmy Kempski updated his camp battle tracker (@JimmyKempski).
- Hurts turned 28, and the team sang to him in the huddle to close practice (@EliotShorrParks).
Pittsburgh Steelers
- Pittsburgh claimed receiver Colton Dowell off waivers from San Francisco and tight end Lance Mason from Seattle, releasing tight end JJ Galbreath and receiver A.T. Perry (@steelers).
- Michael Pittman Jr. is looking forward to Saturday Night Lights at Latrobe Memorial Stadium, the offense-versus-defense competition on the camp calendar (@C_AdamskiTrib).
San Francisco 49ers
- San Francisco lost receiver Colton Dowell on a waiver claim to Pittsburgh (@steelers).
- Former 49ers left guard Laken Tomlinson, a five-year starter there, had a bone spur cleaned out of his left heel this offseason and says he feels the best he has in a while as he looks for a team (@LombardiHimself). A healthy veteran guard on the street matters to every offense currently patching an interior line, San Francisco's included.
Seattle Seahawks
- Mike Macdonald joined Inside Training Camp Live to discuss his plans to run it forward and give a camp update (@RapSheet).
- Seattle lost tight end Lance Mason to Pittsburgh on waivers (@steelers).
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
- Greg Auman has the top three corners settled when healthy — McCollum, Parrish and Morrison — with a real competition for the fourth spot between special-teams commodity Josh Hayes, Pepe Williams and rookie Ayden Garnes, both of whom are getting heavy work with the twos while Chase Lucas and Kemon Hall are injured (@gregauman).
Tennessee Titans
- Peter Skoronski is now the NFL's highest-paid guard on a four-year, $100 million extension with $88 million locked in (full story above) (@RapSheet, @Titans).
- Carnell Tate supplied the practice highlights on the team feed (@Titans, @Titans), with Cam Ward taking the QB1 billing (@Titans).
Washington Commanders
- Stefon Diggs signed, practiced and stayed late with Jayden Daniels (full story above) (@AdamSchefter, @NickiJhabvala).
- Cornerback Trey Amos, edge Dorance Armstrong and punter Tress Way all passed physicals and came off the PUP and non-football injury lists (@Commanders, @john_keim).
- Terry McLaurin and Rasul Douglas traded reps in one-on-ones, with Keim carrying the exchange (@john_keim, @NickiJhabvala).

Minnesota Vikings Quarterback Battle: How to Read the Reps
Rep counts beat quotes, and Minnesota just produced one. Kevin Seifert reports Kyler Murray has taken roughly two-thirds of the first-team snaps in 11-on-11 drills over J.J. McCarthy, and he offers the caveat himself: the imbalance can partly be explained by Murray's relative inexperience in the offense. Then he walks straight past it — unless the split reverses in the coming week, he treats the outcome as all but settled (@UnderdogNFL). Through the first seven practices, his read is that the essence of the competition has not changed and Murray is the heavy favorite (@SeifertESPN).
That is the part worth sitting with. The caveat and the conclusion are not in tension the way a quick skim suggests — the reporter closest to it raised the innocent explanation and then declined to lean on it. A two-thirds share is a starter's allocation, and a staff that was still gathering comparative evidence would split the work closer to even to get it.
What would have to change: Seifert set the test himself — a reversal in the coming week. If the split moves back toward even, the innocent explanation was the right one and this is a live competition being misread as a decision. If it does not move, the job is Murray's in everything but the announcement, and Justin Jefferson keeps a stable target economy.
How to read it from here: watch the ratio, not the highlight throws. Starters barely play in preseason games, so those box scores will not settle it — the beat's daily rep counts will, and the specific thing to watch for is the reversal Seifert named rather than any particular percentage. Our projections still treat Minnesota's Week 1 starter as favored-but-unconfirmed, and the practical move is to price Jefferson and Jordan Addison off the offense's volume rather than off any one quarterback until that rep split stops being newsworthy.
Injury Watch
- Cam Skattebo, RB, Giants (left leg): Limped off after a collision with linebacker Arvell Reese, stretched the leg on the sideline and did not return to practice, though he stayed on the field (@JordanRaanan, @UnderdogNFL).
- John Michael Schmitz, C, and Brian Burns, OLB, Giants: Schmitz walked off early after taking a hard hit; Burns also got banged up, with his status left unclear in the report (@JordanRaanan).
- Malik Nabers, WR, Giants: Trending up — his best look of the summer, with the next step described as working him back into practice more (@JordanRaanan).
- Bryan Bresee, DT, Saints: Officially placed on season-ending injured reserve with a torn ACL (@AdamSchefter).
- Kendrick Green, C/G, Browns: Placed on injured reserve with an undisclosed injury, ending his season barring an injury settlement (@ASaunders_PGH).
- Dallis Flowers, DB, Bears: Lost to injured reserve, with Xavier Woods signed in the corresponding move (@BradBiggs).
- Patrick Mahomes, QB, Chiefs (knee): Andy Reid is leaning against playing him in the preseason opener (@UnderdogNFL).
- Jaylin Noel, WR, Texans: Activated from the Non-Football Injury list (@AdamSchefter).
- Trey Amos, CB, Dorance Armstrong, DE, and Tress Way, P, Commanders: All three passed physicals and came off the PUP and non-football injury lists (@Commanders).
- Lane Johnson, T, Eagles: Back with the team and expected to practice after an excused, non-injury absence (@MikeGarafolo).
- Cyrus Allen, WR, Chiefs: Returned to practice after bruising his shin (@AdamSchefter).
- Chris Bell, WR, Dolphins: Jeff Hafley gave a rehab update and left open the possibility of a preseason activation (@DavidFurones_).
- Chris Brazzell, WR, Panthers: Out for the year, which opens the depth chart behind Carolina's starters (@mike_e_kaye).
- Troy Andersen, LB, Falcons: Released after a career interrupted repeatedly by injuries (@willmcfadden).
