DraftKings Adds Late Swap Option For MMA Contests: DFS Players Allowed to Change Fighters Mid-Card

The days of DraftKings fantasy players being punished when an MMA fighter drops out unexpectedly are in the past.

DraftKings sent out a release announcing that DFS players will now have the chance to swap out fighters after the card begins for a fighter who has not entered the Octagon yet.

How DraftKings Late Swap Will Work For UFC

Using the mobile app or a web browser, DFS players will be able to swap out fighters using a simple process.

Per the DraftKings website:

  1. Log in to the DraftKings Fantasy Sports app.
  2. Tap My Contests at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Tap Edit Entry on the lineup you’d like to edit.
  4. Tap the gray X next to fighters you’d like to remove and add fighters as you would normally. Fighters with a lock next to their name aren’t eligible for late swap.

“The simplest way to look at MMA late swap is that there is now a way to get fighters out of lineups after the slate starts in the event a fight is scratched. This doesn’t happen regularly, but this is an issue that arises every couple months or so. From a strategy standpoint, this introduces an entirely new angle to gameplay. Lineups once thought dead by early losses can gain EV by swapping to lower owned fighters or by swapping to fighters going against a chalky fighter. Ownership was always important in MMA DFS and now it takes on an additional role in game theory,” our DFS expert, Greg Ehrenberg, said of the change.
