NFL Thursday Night Football DFS Picks: Eagles at Giants (Week 6)

Thursday Night Football features two NFC East teams: The 4-1 Philadelphia Eagles coming off a home upset by the Denver Broncos and a 1-4 New York Giants squad that features rookies at quarterback and running back while missing Malik Nabers due to a knee injury. In this edition of the Stokastic’s NFL DFS picks series, we’ll be providing our Eagles-Giants Week 6 Thursday Night Football DFS plays for the NFL Showdown action from MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NY.

NFL Thursday Night Football Week 6 DFS Picks: Eagles-Giants

Since 2020, the Giants are 3-8 against the Eagles, including losing in the 2022 Divisional Round. That year Philadelphia went to the Super Bowl LVII, where the Kansas City Chiefs won 38-35 in an epic matchup. Things should be extra chippy with longtime Giant Saquon Barkley back in New York.

NFL DFS Picks for Thursday Night Football Week 6: Jalen Hurts

Jalen Hurts

DFS Salary
DraftKings: $11,000
FanDuel:
$13,600
Fantasy Points
DraftKings:
20.68
FanDuel: 20.51

Jalen Hurts‘ 177.8 yards per game rank 31st among quarterbacks who have at least three starts. He has been effective with seven touchdowns and no interceptions, though his 27.8 pass attempts per game are 26th in the league.

The “Brotherly Shove” still works, and Hurts already has four rushing scores, while his 36.4 yards per game are in line with his 38.6 yards per game from the two preceding seasons.

The Eagles are nearly touchdown favorites on the road, and the team should not be caught napping after dropping a game to the Denver Broncos on Sunday, which removed them from the ranks of the undefeated. On Sunday, Hurts had a season-high 280 passing yards with two touchdowns, and he also had 226 plus a trio of aerial scores in a competitive contest against the Los Angeles Rams. There are tremendous pass catchers at every skill position, so the baseline drought of passing volume is heavily influenced by offensive philosophy and opponent.

Unfortunately, New York was in only two competitive games. In Week 2, the team with Russell Wilson at the helm lost in overtime 40-37 to Dallas, and in Week 4, the Giants knocked off the visiting Los Angeles Chargers 21-18. Considering the G-men will be without linebackers Swayze Bozeman (ankle) and Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles (hamstring), as well as safety Anthony Johnson Jr., it may be possible for the Eagles to continue a conservative approach to another victory.

Philadelphia Eagles Positional Preview

Running Back | Eagles-Giants NFL DFS Picks for Thursday Night Football Week 6

Saquon Barkley rushed for more than 60 yards once this season, though his 19 targets through five games are nearly half of the 43 he saw last year. He does have four touchdowns, with three on the ground, but his 3.2 yards per tote are a career low for any season where he had more than 20 carries, and his longest carry is for 17 yards. That is concerning since last year he averaged one carry of 20-plus yards each game.

He is only 28, though this is his ninth NFL campaign, and he had a lot of mileage not only last year, but as the focal point of the Giants for all those seasons. After leading the NFL with 345 carries and 2,005 rushing yards in 16 regular season games, he did the same through the Super Bowl with another 91 carries and 499 yards. It would appear the MASSIVE workload and, of course, the game situations have combined to keep him at a lesser role this season.

It is also important to point out that Barkley is not losing out to A.J. Dillon (11 carries, 58 yards, no touchdowns) or Will Shipley (4/26/0), as he has 83 of the 98 carries and 19 of the 22 targets.

Tonight the Stokastic NFL DFS stat projections have Barkley for 19.96 carries and 91.52 yards, Hurts earmarked for 9.16 for 46.49, with Dillion and Shipley combining for 3.51 and 16.49 yards. The median outcome in the passing game is for Barkley to see 3.7 targets for 2.7 receptions and just under 20 yards, while Shipley has a 60% probability of getting a target.

Shipley missed Weeks 2 and 3, though he was on the field for just 11 snaps over the last two games, compared to the 17 for Dillon. Tank Bigsby is yet to see any offensive action for Philadelphia, but he returns kickoffs.

Pass Catchers | Eagles-Giants NFL DFS Picks for Thursday Night Football Week 6

A.J. Brown leads the team with 36 targets, DeVonta Smith has 30 and tight end Dallas Goedert has 22 looks, which are three more than Barkley. Putting these positions together is appropriate since Goedert leads the team with four receiving scores and Grant Calcaterra (oblique) is unlikely to play. Former Indianapolis Colt Kyle Granson has two targets this season, though none in the last three games.

Jahan Dotson is the WR3, but he has only 10 targets on the year, despite playing 178 (58%) of the snaps. Reserve Darius Cooper may be inactive, and John Metchie III averages just under five offensive snaps per game.

Despite the lack of consistent production, neither Brown nor Smith offer salary relief, which is appropriate since either could easily go for 100-plus yards and a touchdown if they get opportunities more in line with the last two seasons. It is up to each DFS gamer to decide how likely that outcome is tonight.

Kicker | Eagles-Giants NFL DFS Picks for Thursday Night Football Week 6

Jake Elliott converted on all five of his field goal attempts this season, and he is perfect on 14 point-after-touchdown attempts. Field goal opportunities are fickle, so do not despair over his lack of volume this season; he remains a core play for tonight’s action.

Defense | Eagles-Giants NFL DFS Picks for Thursday Night Football Week 6

Surprisingly, Philadelphia has only seven sacks this season, which are only two ahead of the lowest teams. The team should be able to get to the rookie quarterback for a handful of combined sacks and turnovers, making this unit very viable in the single-game format.

NFL DFS Picks for Thursday Night Football Week 6: Jaxson Dart

Jaxson Dart

DFS Salary
DraftKings: $10,200
FanDuel:
$12,200
Fantasy Points
DraftKings:
15.65
FanDuel: 15.48

In Week 4, Jaxson Dart attempted only 20 passes, though the rookie did take five sacks. Last week in New Orleans, he was 26-for-40 (65%), tossing two touchdowns, along with two interceptions.

He fumbled in each game, but his 19 carries for 109 yards and a touchdown will keep defenses needing to account for him at all times. Philadelphia did not have to deal with a running quarterback yet this season; however, Patrick Mahomes II did have 66 yards and a score on seven carries in Week 2.

Bo Nix had only three carries for 22 yards in Sunday’s upset, though, of course, the defense gets to deal with Hurts in practice, so Dart is unlikely to catch the opposition unaware. Looking at the OddsShopper Live Odds page, we can see that Dart is currently listed at -114 for over 35.5 rushing yards on FanDuel, with a -113 line for his over 177.5 passing yards on DraftKings. Also, several books have a consensus of +390 for an anytime touchdown.

The rookie is projected to be on nearly half of all tournament lineups on DraftKings, and he is trending for just over 60% representation on FanDuel. This ranks third overall, though well behind the 76.5% and 81.7% going to Hurts.

It is also important to note that Dart will be without two of his top 3 wideouts, which could lead to more scrambles if the secondary pass-catchers have trouble getting open quickly. Keep in mind that right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor’s back is questionable, with only a limited practice on Wednesday.

New York Giants Positional Preview

Running Back | Eagles-Giants NFL DFS Picks for Thursday Night Football Week 6

Tyrone Tracy Jr. (shoulder) was limited during practice on the short week, though the second-year back is expected to be available tonight. Rookie Cam Skattebo played on 75% and 68% of the snaps while Tracy was out, with veteran Devin Singletary between the line for 25% and 32% of the offensive action.

It would appear that Skattebo has the edge, though a 60% baseline with 40% going to his counterparts seems like an appropriate baseline expectation. The fourth-rounder took some big hits, and there is no need for the Giants to run him into the ground with Tracy and Singletary both available.

Tracy had over 1,100 combined yards last year, and he led the skill position players with 26 red zone opportunities, so to expect he him to be out of the picture is ridiculous, as some content suggests for tonight’s action. Skattebo has the edge in short yardage and goal line chances, but he is unlikely to be the “bell cow” if Singletary is healthy.

Wide Receiver | Eagles-Giants NFL DFS Picks for Thursday Night Football Week 6

Malik Nabers (knee) is done for the season, and Darius Slayton is out for tonight and potentially longer due to a hamstring injury. Wan’Dale Robinson will slightly benefit, though he already had a secure role for quick passes and hot routes.

Jalin Hyatt has been disappointing ever since he was a third-round selection in the 2023 NFL Draft, recording 62 targets in 36 career games. Rookie Beaux Collins is going to be pressed into duty, having been signed as a UDFA after three seasons with Clemson and one with Notre Dame. Each player had three targets in Week 5: Collins caught one for 7 yards, while Hyatt was blanked.

Hyatt has the slight edge since he has been in the league longer, though the sports books and pick’em sites have each player settling in between 15.5 and 16.5 receiving yards. That is great when trying to collect enough legs in a SGP to unlock a booster, but not so much for DFS, when salaries are taken into consideration.

Special teamer Gunner Olszewski has some offensive experience, though the returner extraordinaire missed all of last year with a groin injury, and he has a 60% probability of getting an offensive opportunity tonight.

Tight End | Eagles-Giants NFL DFS Picks for Thursday Night Football Week 6

Theo Johnson leads the team with three touchdown receptions, all from Dart. Even counting his three games with Wilson under center, Johnson has just 22 targets for 15 receptions and 99 yards. He is definitely in play tonight, though a third consecutive game with a touchdown is unlikely. Johnson was on the field for nearly 80% of the offensive action, while Daniel Bellinger (32%) and Chris Manhertz (19%) were well behind.

Bellinger did get four targets last week, though Manhertz does not have any in the two games with Dart under center.

Kicker | Eagles-Giants NFL DFS Picks for Thursday Night Football Week 6

Graham Gano is still on the injured reserve, so Jude McAtamney will get his third game as the primary placekicker. He made both field goal attempts and all three extra points. McAtamney was the starting kicker during his junior season with Rutgers, though his senior year he lost the placekicking role to Jai Patel. However, he continued to be the kickoff specialist.

The 25-year-old grew up in Ireland, teaching himself how to be a field goal kicker after learning of a fellow countryman getting a scholarship in the U.S. This was during the pandemic, though ultimately he got a scholarship from Chowan University, then he entered the transfer portal a year later. His Wikipedia page is a fun read, and per the site, McAtamney has 50-yard range, having trained with ProKick in Australia, which works with international kickers and punters to help them find NCAA opportunities.

Defense | Eagles-Giants NFL DFS Picks for Thursday Night Football Week 6

Shout out to the Giants, who have 10 sacks on the season, while Philadelphia ceded 15 sacks. Takeaways are sparse for New York with only three, and the Eagles are averaging only one turnover per tilt.

NFL DFS Picks for Eagles-Giants NFL DFS Picks for TNF Week 6: Rankings

Top 10 NFL DFS Showdown Picks for Eagles-Giants

  1. Jalen Hurts: Hurts so good!
  2. Jaxson Dart: Discount Dollar Store BOGO version of Hurts.
  3. Saquon Barkley: First time back in New York after the Super Bowl victory.
  4. A.J. Brown: Talent alone keeps him in the top 5. He could have three targets and still get 100 yards and two touchdowns; it just hasn’t happened yet.
  5. Wan’Dale Robinson: Drops three spots on FanDuel with the half-PPR scoring format.
  6. Cam Skattebo: Expect 15 touches as a floor.
  7. Jake Elliott: Take the veteran for the salary savings.
  8. DeVonta Smith: In play for the multiplier slot for those crafting north of 20 lineups.
  9. Dallas Goedert: Continues to be a trusted target; four scores, though only three red zone looks — he is running hot.
  10. Jude McAtamney: Let’s see what the kid can do.

Secondary Options

  1. Philadelphia DST: Just misses the top 10, though I would not begrudge anyone who thinks otherwise.
  2. Theo Johnson: Buy one, get three free version of Goedert.
  3. Tyrone Tracy Jr.: If Skattebo keeps this hard-hit pace up, he is going to be heading to the blue tent. Also in the mix for kickoff returns.
  4. New York DST: Attrition is going to catch up at some point.
  5. Jalin Hyatt and Beaux Collins: Enough of a median projection to stay above the lottery line.

Lottery Tickets

  1. Daniel Bellinger: Capable hands in a pinch; the Giants are definitely getting desperate.
  2. Jahan Dotson: Fourth read on most passing plays; lead punt returner.
  3. Devin Singletary, Will Shipley and A.J. Dillon: Each needs something to befall the RB1 for their team, Shipley and Dillon have a path to mop-up duty. Singletary and Shipley return kickoffs.
  4. Lil’Jordan Humphrey: DraftKings only, where he is at the $200 minimum salary; may not be active.
  5. Kylen Granson: Gets a mention with Calcaterra out and his $200 DraftKings salary.
  6. John Metchie III, Chris Manhertz and Gunner Olszewski: First two should at least get a couple of offensive plays; latter might, but he also returns punts and helped on kickoffs when Tracy was out. Metchie has a hand in kickoff returns.
  7. Tank Bigsby: Returns kickoffs; still waiting for his first offensive action with Philadelphia.
  8. Xavier Gipson, Cameron Latu and Ihmir Smith-Marsette: Not the edge of the world, but we can see it from here.
