DraftKings F1 Preview: Will Max Verstappen Lock Up the World Championship in Singapore? (October 2)

DraftKings F1 Brazil Grand Prix DFS Picks: Is Mercedes a Lock?

Formula 1 is back after a short hiatus, resulting from F1 skipping the Russian Grand Prix this year because of their attacks on Ukraine. F1 makes their way back to Asia after missing the past couple years due to the COVID pandemic.

The Marina Bay Street Circuit in Singapore is a spectacle under the lights. The biggest storyline coming into the weekend is the fact that Red Bull’s Max Verstappen can wrap up the Drivers’ Championship with five races left on the schedule after this weekend. Verstappen has a 116-point lead over Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc. If Verstappen is able to win and claim the fastest lap, with Leclerc finishing eighth or lower and teammate Sergio Perez fourth or lower, Verstappen will win the 2022 Drivers’ Championship. Mercedes’ George Russell is also in mathematical contention, but as long as Verstappen outscores Russell by 6 points, he will drive away with the trophy.

This weekend could be one of the most interesting weekends on the F1 calendar simply because drivers have been off for almost three weeks, and with just six races remaining, teams may decide to work on changes that will improve their changes for their 2023 car.

F1 Fantasy Preview for Singapore Grand Prix

Verstappen’s price continues to creep up to now $12,400, but fading the 2021 champion has not been a profitable decision in 2022. He has won 11 of the 16 races this season, even after engine malfunctions cost him two of the first three races of the year. It has paid off more often than not by laying the Verstappen at captain chalk and getting different with the rest of lineup construction.

Somehow, with all that said, the Red Bull constructor price has dropped from the $12,100 to $11,900 for the Singapore Grand Prix. If DFS players decide to start their lineups with Verstappen at captain and stacking with the Red Bull constructor, players will be left with $4,875 per driver for their four driver spots.

The most expensive driver that one can play with that stack is 0ussell, but it will leave players no option at the bottom of the pricing. Even using Carlos Sainz doesn’t leave much room for flexibility.

The Singapore Grand Prix is no stranger to disaster as fans saw in 2017 when only 12 racers made it to the checkered flag. The Grand Prix had five racers not finish in 2015, and four did not finish the race in 2016.

It has been a difficult year to get different, as the top three teams — Red Bull, Ferrari and Mercedes — have all clearly separated themselves from the rest of the competition. As far as the early Free Practice sessions look on Friday morning, this trend should continue in Singapore.

DraftKings Singapore Grand Prix F1 DFS Picks

Fading Verstappen this season has been a costly mistake. Even when he is starting behind other cars, the Red Bull car and driver combination is simply above everyone else on the circuit. In cash games, it is very difficult to see a way around starting a team with Verstappen at captain.

The constructor spot has been where the fades have been much more successful. Because Verstappen’s teammate, Perez, is not the same elite level talent, it makes sense to pay down at the constructor spot to save salary.

The top six drivers have clearly separated themselves on the track, and they have also separated themselves in DraftKings pricing too, as there is a $1,2000 drop-off from Perez, the sixth-priced driver, to McLaren’s Lando Norris. After that price drop, there is less than $400 separating each of the last 13 drivers.

As usual, the sub-$5,000 price range is the make-or-break GPP spot. There are eight drivers below the $5,000 price point, but Alex Albon has some of the best weekly odds to beat his teammate Nicholas Latifi.

This is one of the few tracks where Verstappen has not won, so his victory in Singapore would be twice as sweet for the eventual 2022 driver champion.

As always, the DraftKings F1 lineup picks segment will be out after qualifying, along with Stokastic’s F1 DFS projections, which will update throughout the week.
