The DraftKings Reignmakers streets are loaded this week with two PGA TOUR tournaments and a 13-fight UFC Card.
Reignmakers is more than just an NFT fantasy sports game, it’s also about playing the marketplace. Here’s a look at my favorite targets on the secondary marketplace for the 2023 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play. The event has the largest pool of any Reignmakers contest this week, so let’s dive into the best options.
Viktor Hovland ($23.75 Core, $119.99 Rare)
The WGC Match Play event is not your standard stroke play tournament. The 64 golfers competing are put into groups of four where they play a round robin with only one player emerging from the pack. Just like the NCAA tournament, the field dwindles down to a round of sixteen, an elite eight and so on until a champion is crowned.
The goal for any Reignmakers lineup this week is to try and land on the correct final four with the winner in the Captain spot.
Considering the strengths of the beginning group stage, Viktor Hovland stands out to me on the marketplace. His initial draw consists of matchups versus Chris Kirk, Si Woo Kim and Matt Kuchar. That’s hardly star-studded opposition.
Most importantly, Hovland’s core card is quite attainable in the mid $20 range. I think he brings equal upside to his more expensive counterparts like Scottie Scheffler and Jon Rahm.
Hovland has started to ramp up his game as the 2023 PGA Tour schedule has gone along. Despite a week around-the-green game that’s kept him out of the winner’s circle, he’s been elite from a ball-striking perspective that’s led to a 20th at the Genesis, a 10th at the Arnold Palmer, and a 3rd at the Players Championship in his past three events. He’s also a former U.S. Amateur championship, the most heralded match play event in golf, so the format has certainly suited him in the past.
At these prices, Hovland stands out as a top option to start your DraftKings PGA Reignmakers lineup with.
Russell Henley ($5.00 Core, $32.99 Rare)
One of the easier paths to the final four comes by way of the Rory McIlroy side of the bracket. Rory is going through a putter switch, Matt Fitzpatrick has been injured and struggled for most 2023 and Xander Schauffele has struggled mightily off the tee lately.
If you’re looking to get ultra-contrarian with an otherwise solid lineup, that’s the side of the draw to target. It’s certain to get unique with a cheap Reignmakers card or two.
That’s where Russell Henley comes into play. His group consists of Tyrell Hatton, Lucas Herbert and Ben Griffin. Despite Hatton’s stellar play of late, there are far more difficult groups on the board. And relative to Henley’s seeding (19) he comes at a steep discount.
Henley has regained his form the past few weeks with stellar ball-striking, gaining 2.5 strokes tee-to-green at the Arnold Palmer and a whopping 7.1 at THE PLAYERS. Those are solid enough numbers for me. When combined with what I perceive as a strong draw, Henley could be the under-the-radar play to take your DraftKings PGA Reignmakers lineup to the top.
