NBA DFS Late Slate Picks: Build Around De’Aaron Fox (February 22)

With DraftKings doing away with the 10 p.m. ET games on an already monster 10-game main slate, we have a two-game night slate with intriguing options all over the board. As it currently stands, five of the top seven players in Stokastic’s NBA Boom/Bust Tool hail from these two games. Let’s get into my NBA DFS late slate picks for tonight, including players like De’Aaron Fox and Anthony Davis. Need more NBA DFS advice? NBA DFS Late Slate Picks: De’Aaron Fox, Anthony Davis & More

Spurs-Kings: De’Aaron Fox

DraftKings Salary: $7,800

DraftKings Projection: 50.06

De’Aaron Fox is the top overall player in Stokastic’s NBA Boom/Bust Tool, and he’s a clear building block on DraftKings at only $7,800. While Domantas Sabonis has gone from doubtful to questionable in the past hour, Fox is the top play on the slate regardless of whether the big man plays. Although he’s been inconsistent, especially recently, Fox is still averaging 45.0 DraftKings points for the season, and he’s coming off a monster two-game stretch before the All-Star break in which he put up a combined 122.3 fantasy points against the Suns and Nuggets. In a much easier spot tonight against the lowly Spurs, Fox would be the best play on the main slate if these last two games were included.

As of this writing, Fox is projected to be 82.2% owned on the late slate. While this number might go down a bit if Sabonis is in, expect Fox to be the highest-owned player on the slate regardless. Even with plenty of good options across all four teams, I’d rather get different elsewhere than fade a clearly underpriced Fox in a smash spot.

Lakers-Warriors: Anthony Davis

DraftKings Salary: $10,000

DraftKings Projections:58.91

Getting away from a $10,000 Anthony Davis with LeBron James out is a difficult proposition. Although he’s not quite as strong of a point-per-dollar play as Fox, Davis’ upside is unmatched on this slate, and there’s a reason why he’s projected to be in 68.3% of lineups on DraftKings. With LeBron also missing the Lakers’ last game before the break, Davis put up a cool 62.3 DraftKings points in a win against the Jazz. It’s easy to expect a similar type of performance tonight matched up with an undersized Warriors team that he’s dominated in the past.

Davis currently sits behind only Fox in Stokastic’s NBA Boom/Bust Tool, and similar to the Kings point guard, Davis would also be in must play territory on tonight’s 10-game main slate. It’s hard to imagine many scenarios in which Davis isn’t productive in a close game tonight, and while Sabonis looks enticing as a pivot if he plays at only $100 more, Davis is the clear-cut top spend-up option on the board and fading him is probably a fool’s errand.

Spurs-Kings: Victor Wembanyama

DraftKings Salary: $9,300

DraftKings Projections: 50.20

With Davis and Fox standing out as clear building blocks at price points that seem too cheap, Victor Wembanyama is falling through the cracks a bit, and he’s my favorite contrarian play at $9,300. Building lineups with all three of Davis, Fox and Wembanyama is a bit tricky, but it’s certainly doable with value plays littered across the board.

Despite projecting for 50.20 fantasy points, Wembanyama is currently projected to be just the 10th-highest-owned player on the slate. While he’s still projected to be 37.4% owned, that’s significantly lower than the likes of Davis, Fox and a bunch of other questionable value plays. His minutes cap is a hinder to his ultimate ceiling, but Wembanyama has slate-breaking upside every time he steps on the floor, as evidenced by the 78.0 DraftKings points he put up in 29 minutes against the Raptors two games ago. While rostering a $9,300 Wembanyama comes with decent opportunity cost, it wouldn’t surprise anyone if he ends up the highest scorer on the entire slate.
