NBA DFS Picks Today: Building Blocks

Giannis Antetokounmpo: Bucks vs. Knicks

NBA DFS Projections
DraftKings: 57.89 | FanDuel: 56.19
NBA DFS Ownership Projections
DraftKings: 17.7% | FanDuel: 25.5%
DFS Salary
DraftKings: $11,800 | FanDuel: $12,100

Giannis Antetokounmpo clearly has the best median fantasy point projection for Tuesday’s action, with nearly a 10% advantage over Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. There are plenty of other decision points, and Antetokounmpo is actually one considering how lofty his salary cap is on the main DFS sites.

Milwaukee is coming off a tough loss in Cleveland, with the Cavaliers posting a 118-113 victory on Sunday. Antetokounmpo actually had a season-high 40 points, just missing out on his first triple-double of the year (14 rebounds, nine assists). After garnering only one block in the first two tilts, the two-time NBA MVP notched a pair of blocks, along with two steals. Though it is early, the 31-year-old is leading the league at 13.7 made field goals per game, and he was atop that category in two of the last three seasons.

Cole Anthony will be available after missing the last game with an illness, as will Kyle Kuzma, who was out due to an ankle issue. Anthony will back up Ryan Rollins, who moved into the starting point guard role after Kevin Porter Jr. (ankle) went down in the opener. Porter will be out for another three games, though expect a game of musical chairs at the one until coach Doc Rivers figures out what he wants — and it may just be that he is fine making this a game-to-game decision, with both the starting job and the closing role up for grabs.

For New York, Mitchell Robinson (ankle) is still out, while Miles McBride (personal) is questionable, having missed the last game as well. Guerschon Yabusele is dealing with a sprained left knee and currently is a game-time decision.

Karl-Anthony Towns was off the mark in the first three games, with a 40.5% success rate on his field goal attempts. That will correct for the 52.3% career shooter, and in the meantime he averaged 20.0 points, 11.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.7 combined blocks and steals. Myles Turner has not presented much of a deterrent for KAT, and changing teams is unlikely to alter that course. The last three times this duo has squared off, Towns averaged 35.3 minutes, 30.3 points, 12.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 3.0 stocks (combined steals and blocks).

New York was involved in three close games, which led to Jalen Brunson averaging 34.7 minutes, which is down a tick from the 35.4 he saw during the last two years under coach Tom Thibodeau. Coach Mike Brown indicated he wants Brunson to play fewer minutes and more off the ball, though expect Brunson and Towns to be heavily involved in any game that is in question. It is a small sample size for sure, but the downtick in assists (7.3 to 5.7) for Brunson was offset by a scoring bump (26.0 to 30.3), aided by a career-high 8.7 free-throw attempts per game. To reiterate, small sample sizes can fluctuate wildly, but signs are positive for Brunson once more.

O.G. Anunoby is in the mix on both DraftKings and FanDuel, though it would be a surprise to see him on more than 20% of all tournament rosters.

NBA DFS Picks Today: Building Blocks

Bam Adebayo: Heat vs. Hornets

NBA DFS Projections
DraftKings: 40.97 | FanDuel: 40.2
NBA DFS Ownership Projections
DraftKings: 28.5% | FanDuel: 41.7%
DFS Salary
DraftKings: $8,000 | FanDuel: $7,800

Bam Adebayo is a strong fantasy point-per-dollar option across the main DFS sites. In a twist, Miami currently leads the league with 109.7 possessions per 48 minutes after finishing 29th each of the last two years. Again small sample size caveats abound, but Charlotte is fifth in pace (124.5), and we know the team plays fast when LaMelo Ball is healthy.

Tyler Herro remains out for Miami, and Norman Powell (groin) is questionable. Adebayo is a core building block in all scenarios, but there are some if/thens depending on Powell’s availability. We know that the Heat are not afraid to preemptively rest players with the big picture in mind, so if Powell starts, he should be in line for his regular complement of minutes. He did transport his late-career breakout from Los Angeles to South Beach, leading the team with 24.0 points and 2.0 steals while ranking second with 7.3 rebounds and chipping in a trio of helpers. Let personal preference be your guide, though the longer the questionable tag is next to Powell leading up to lock, the less enticing he will look to the hand-builders and casual DFS gamers.

Jaime Jaquez Jr. ($4,500) and Nikola Jovic ($4,100) are strong value options on DraftKings who will only become more appealing if Powell is out. Andrew Wiggins ($5,900) and Davion Mitchell ($4,700) hold that designation on FanDuel, and this quartet is currently slated to be on 30% to 40% of all tournament rosters for the respective sites with Powell active.

Collin Sexton is the DraftKings ($5,400) and FanDuel ($5,600) Charlotte cheapie, with Ball being the bucks-deluxe differentiation play from the Hornets.

NBA DFS Picks Today: Building Blocks

Tyrese Maxey: 76ers at Wizards

NBA DFS Projections
DraftKings: 40.97 | FanDuel: 40.2
NBA DFS Ownership Projections
DraftKings: 13.2% | FanDuel: 49.1%
DFS Salary
DraftKings: $9,500 | FanDuel: $8,900

Tyrese Maxey is popping on FanDuel, where he is $700 cheaper than Ball. This duo found equilibrium on DraftKings with only $200 separating their cap hits.

After sitting out on Sunday in what turned out to be a 136-124 win over the visiting Orlando Magic, Joel Embiid is expected to suit up tonight. It is hard to get excited about the Cameroonian, as the salary algorithms are not assigning enough of a discount for his expected 20 to 22 minutes of action.

The Stokastic NBA DFS Projections have Embiid for 20.9 minutes, 17.5 points, 6.4 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.3 combined blocks and steals. The average NBA player would be thrilled with that stat line, though they would also provide something close to a 50% discount to the former planet killer.

Rookie VJ Edgecombe has been outstanding thus far, and while he is not going to average 40.3 minutes per game much longer, he is a competent scorer (56.9% EFG) with 25.0 points while adding 5.7 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 2.4 stocks. Kelly Oubre Jr. and Quentin Grimes are additional value plays on the blue site, though they are tertiary targets at best on DraftKings.

Washington’s rookie Tre Johnson (back) is questionable, but the Wizards run a deep rotation, so that doesn’t impact the starters. Kyshawn George is the only Wizard worthy of a mention on FanDuel, joined by CJ McCollum on DraftKings.

In other news, Chet Holmgren is likely to get tonight off, which would open up bench minutes for some discount dandies against Sacramento. Gilgeous-Alexander will again be doing the heavy lifting with Jalen Williams still out, but it will be interesting to see the first five for Oklahoma City tonight. Today’s Top Sports Betting Picks

If you’re serious about winning in NBA DFS, you know the edge comes from having the right tools. The same principle applies to sports betting, and that’s where Portfolio EV shines.

Take a bet like Dennis Schroder to knock down more than 1.5 made 3-pointers tonight. On the surface, it’s a simple play. But behind the scenes, it’s a +EV bet, meaning it’s mathematically profitable based on the best odds available. Portfolio EV finds these +EV bets and allows you to bet them at high volume with just a couple clicks, maximizing your bankroll’s long-term profitability.

Digging into the details on Portfolio EV, Schroder is currently listed at +116 on Unibet and a couple other operators. Down at the lower right of the screenshot, you will see sharp book Pinnacle posting punitive -117 odds, which is a massing drop from a strong 4.4% expected ROI all the way down to a negative 10.1% expected ROI compared to the +107 “true odds” for over 1.5 made 3-pointers.

Schroder is more involved on offense as the Kings need floor spacing and long-range attempts. Sacramento is sorely lacking in this department, both in the starting lineup and off the bench. This is the 10th franchise for the 32-year-old, who has been an NBA nomad since spending his first seven seasons with Atlanta and Oklahoma City. From his per-36 numbers across the last five-plus seasons, he averaged 1.8 makes on 5.1 attempts for a 35.4% success rate. The German attempted six triples on average through three games, which is a reasonable baseline expectation for tonight.
