NBA DFS Picks Today: Building Blocks

Jalen Duren: Pistons vs. Wizards

NBA DFS Projections
DraftKings: 44.18 | FanDuel: 43.49
NBA DFS Ownership Projections
DraftKings: 48.1% | FanDuel: 23.5%
DFS Salary
DraftKings: $7,700 | FanDuel: $8,100

Jalen Duren made a massing leap this season, posting career highs of 19.4 points, 11.8 rebounds and 1.3 blocks. By comparison, he is playing 27.9 minutes per game this season, while in the last two he averaged 27.4, 12.7 points, 10.9 rebounds and 1.0 blocks.

The 22-year-old was always a strong rebounder and a nightly double-double threat, though turning into a 20-10 player in such short order is impressive. Tonight he will be facing a Washington frontcourt that is not equipped to deal with him, even though young Alexandre Sarr is a budding pivot man in his own right.

Tobias Harris missed the last four games with a sprained right ankle, and Isaiah Stewart tweaked his left ankle early on Friday against Brooklyn. There is no need to rush either back with the Pistons double-digit home favorites and the Wizards having the second-worst defense in the league.

Currently, Harris and Stewart are in the Stokastic projections, though Ausar Thompson and Ronald Holland II are intriguing plays on DraftKings, with Thompson and Cade Cunningham standing out on FanDuel. If either Harris or Stewart are out, Thompson and Holland will become more appealing across the board. Cunningham feels like a bit of a reach, considering how bad the Wizards are, and it could be tough for him to reach his full upside. Still, in the last seven games, Cunningham scored at least 49 DraftKings fantasy points, including 50-plus against Utah and Brooklyn, which are among the dregs of the league.

Tre Johnson is a placeholder value on FanDuel ($4,200), and Cam Whitmore is on DraftKings ($3,500), though better options are likely to emerge as injury reports are released. Sarr is a lottery ticket, but there are ample alternatives with as good or better fantasy point-per-dollar ratios up and down the salary sheet.

NBA DFS Picks Today: Building Blocks

Giannis Antetokounmpo: Bucks at Mavericks

NBA DFS Projections
DraftKings: 60.41 | FanDuel: 59.56
NBA DFS Ownership Projections
DraftKings: 12.9% | FanDuel: 12.6%
DFS Salary
DraftKings: $11,700 | FanDuel: $12,500

Milwaukee is favored by a bucket in Dallas tonight in a game with Anthony Davis upgraded to questionable after missing the last five games due to a calf issue, though there is still a chance he is out tonight. Daniel Gafford is questionable after tweaking his ankle again, and Dereck Lively II is doubtful with a sprained knee.

If that trio were all at full health, then maybe we would be a little concerned about rostering Giannis Antetokounmpo, but that is not part of today’s equation. There are four players with five-figure salaries, though Cunningham is just over that threshold. Luka Doncic is the most expensive on DraftKings ($12,000, 2.1%) and FanDuel ($13,000, 2.6%), with Victor Wembanyama second on DraftKings ($11,900, <1%) and third on FanDuel ($12,200, 2.7%).

Austin Reaves missed the last three games with a strained groin, though he was upgraded to questionable on the early injury report. Doncic can still post monster numbers alongside Reaves, but it does make an apex ceiling tougher to reach. The Lakers were embarrassed on Saturday, losing in spectacular fashion to the Hawks in Atlanta with the home team rolling out a starting lineup of Dyson Daniels, Keaton Wallace, Zaccharie Risacher, Mouhamed Gueye and Onyeka Okongwu. It was so bad that coach JJ Redick emptied the bench midway through the third quarter with his team down by 27 points. If Reaves is out, Doncic edges Antetokounmpo, though if Reaves plays, he is a better fantasy point-per-dollar option over his teammate.

Teams are defending Wembanyama differently this season, going with the kitchen-sink approach to give the youngster looks he has not seen before. This is similar to young MLB hitters who play a cat-and-mouse game with opposing pitchers as they learn what it is like to face the best of the best. Given time, Wembanyama will figure everything out, and he hasn’t exactly been bad in the last three games, averaging 19.7 points, 11.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and a trio of stocks (steals plus blocks).

Considering that the Chicago Bulls have almost no rim protection with Nikola Vucevic as the center, this is shaping up to be a “get right” spot for the young Frenchman. De’Aaron Fox made his debut on Saturday, helping lead the Spurs to a 126-119 victory over New Orleans. He played 30.5 minutes, and while he was a little rusty, Wemby now has an accomplished point guard running the show while providing another source of offense that opposing teams have to account for every game.

NBA DFS Picks Today: Building Blocks

John Collins: Clippers vs. Hawks

NBA DFS Projections
DraftKings: 27.65 | FanDuel: 27.21
NBA DFS Ownership Projections
DraftKings: n/a | FanDuel: 27.6%
DFS Salary
DraftKings: $5,000 | FanDuel: $4,800

DraftKings is excluding the Monday nightcap from their featured contests, though FanDuel is keeping the game in the player pool. It is a 10:30 p.m. ET tip off, and each team currently has injury situations.

Both the DraftKings and FanDuel slates will be discussed in depth tonight, so sure to tune into Stokastic NBA Deeper Dive and Live Before Lock at 6:00 p.m. ET on YouTube for expert analysis, key insights and winning strategies to dominate your NBA DFS picks today!

Kawhi Leonard will be out for at least the next two games with a sprained right ankle, which means vacated minutes and opportunities that are likely to go to John Collins. He is likely to remain in a bench role, though he should push for 27 to 28 minutes, with low 30s if he draws the start. Even with the Stokastic NBA projections using a median baseline of 26.1 minutes, Collins is still an excellent option against the team that drafted him.

Collins is the other player who looks interesting on the FanDuel featured slate, though it is likely he will be phased out by better fantasy point-per-dollar options as more news is released with the upcoming injury reports.

James Harden is in the sweet spot with an $8,800 salary on FanDuel, below the apex options but not quite popping from a fantasy point-per-dollar perspective. This is likely to keep him underrepresented in tournaments on the blue site with a 20% rostership. Savvy gamers should consider going in with a 30% to 35% portfolio representation, then sloughing some off via late-swaps if better options appear in the second wave of games.

Kristaps Porzingis is not on the injury report, so he looks good for Atlanta, even with the assumption that Jalen Johnson and Nickeil Alexander-Walker will return after sitting out Saturday’s game.

Today’s Top Sports Betting Picks

If you’re serious about winning in NBA DFS, you know the edge comes from having the right tools. The same principle applies to sports betting, and that’s where Portfolio EV shines.

Take a bet like Kon Knueppel to have fewer than 5.5 rebounds tonight. On the surface, it’s a simple play. But behind the scenes, it’s a +EV bet, meaning it’s mathematically profitable based on the best odds available. Portfolio EV finds these +EV bets and allows you to bet them at high volume with just a couple clicks, maximizing your bankroll’s long-term profitability.

Digging into the details on Portfolio EV, Knueppel is currently listed at -102 for under 5.5 rebounds, which works out to a strong 6.4% expected ROI when compared to the -116 “true odds.” Most other books have this wager in the -120 to -135 range, which maths out to a NEGATIVE 2% to 6% expected ROI..

It is important to call out that over the last four games, the rookie averaged 34.5 minutes and 8.5 rebounds, and consensus projections have him right around 5.5, so this wager is not without risk. That also underscores why it is crucial to get the -102 odds from FanDuel.
