NFL DFS: Sunday’s Preseason Week 1 Value Plays, Sleepers & NFL DFS Picks for DraftKings & FanDuel (August 14)

The preseason has finally arrived, and Week 1 continues with a showdown on Sunday (Aug. 14, 2022). Preseason DFS creates an unique environment where information reigns supreme. Finding which players will play the most can significantly increase the likelihood of NFL preseason DFS success. This piece will dig into the roster of each team and pinpoint exactly where that value might come from and be the ultimate guide for making the best NFL DFS picks tonight for DraftKings and FanDuel lineups.

Minnesota Vikings

QB 1 – Kirk Cousins – 0 snaps – 15 snaps – 15 snaps – Cousins will not play this preseason

QB 2 – Sean Mannion – 12 snaps – 36 snaps – 35 snaps – Mannion completed 67.3% of his passes for 229 yards and 1 TD. 

QB 3 – Kellen Mond – 46 snaps – 22 snaps – 52 snaps – Mond completed 54.9% of his passes for 310 yards, 0 TDs, and 1 INT. He also rushed for 73 yards, but fumbled 3 times. 

RB 1 – Dalvin Cook – Cook didn’t play last preseason. 

RB 2 – Alexander Mattison – 0 snaps – 2 snaps – 0 snaps 

RB 3 – Kene Nwangwu – Nwangwu only played 3 special teams snaps last preseason, which is his primary role in the NFL. He is 6-1, 210 pounds with a 4.32 40-yard dash. He was behind David Montgomery and Breece Hall, but still hasn’t gotten a chance at RB. 

RB 4 – Ty Chandler – Chandler was the 169th pick of the 5th round out of North Carolina. He is 5-11, 204 pounds and ran a 4.38 40-yard dash. He had at least 15 catches each of the last two years. He also rushed for 1,092 yards in his final season. 

RB 5 – Bryant Koback – Koback is a UDFA out of Toledo. He is 6-0, 210 pounds and ran a 4.47 40-yard dash. He rushed for 1,400 yards and caught 30 passes in his final year with the Rockets. 

RB 6 – CJ Ham – Ham is a fullback. 

RB 7 – Jake Bargas – Bargas is a fullback

WR 1 – Justin Jefferson – Jefferson didn’t play last preseason. 

WR 2 – Adam Thielen – 0 snaps – 2 snaps – 0 snaps 

WR 3 – KJ Osborn – 22 snaps – 32 snaps – 54 snaps – Osborn caught 7 of 12 targets for 110 yards. 

WR 4 – Bisi Johnson – Johnson didn’t play last preseason. He did catch 5 of 6 targets for 87 yards and 1 TD in 2019 with Minnesota. 

WR 5 – Ihmir Smith-Marsette – 55 snaps – 25 snaps – 60 snaps – Smith-Marsette caught 5 of 11 targets for 55 yards. He is primarily a special teamer. 

WR 6 – Albert Wilson – Wilson didn’t play last preseason. He is another candidate to play on special teams. 

WR 7 – Trishton Jackson – 24 snaps – 0 snaps – 72 snaps – Jackson caught 5 of 7 targets for 55 yards and 1 TD with the Los Angeles Rams last year. 

WR 8 – Jalen Nailor – Nailor was the 191st pick of the 6th round out of Michigan State. He is 5-11, 186 pounds and ran a 4.50 40-yard dash. 

WR 9 – Myron Mitchell – 10 snaps – 8 snaps – 22 snaps – Mitchell caught 3 of 4 targets for 32 yards last year. 

WR 10 – Dan Chisena – 46 snaps – 16 snaps – 0 snaps – Chisena caught 1 of 3 targets for 6 yards. 

WR 11 – Thomas Hennigan – Hennigan is a UDFA out of Appalachian State. He is 6-1, 210 pounds and ran a 4.70 40-yard dash. 

WR 12 – Blake Proehl – Proehl didn’t play last preseason, but he was a 2021 UDFA out of East Carolina. He is 6-1, 186 pounds and ran a 4.47 40-yard dash. Proehl is on PUP. 

TE 1- Irv Smith – Smith is out for the preseason after undergoing thumb surgery. 

TE 2 – Ben Ellefson – 10 snaps – 20 snaps – 20 snaps – Ellefson caught 3 of 4 targets for 23 yards with Jacksonville last preseason. 

TE 3 – Johnny Mundt – Mundt didn’t play last preseason. He played the regular season with the LA Rams. He blocked on 69 of his 102 offensive snaps, despite being 6-4, 233 pounds. 

TE 4 – Nick Muse – Muse was drafted 228th overall in the 7th round out of South Carolina. He is 6-5, 249 pounds and ran a 4.71 40-yard dash. 

TE 5 – Zach Davidson – 36 snaps – 25 snaps – 41 snaps – Davidson caught 2 of 7 targets for 15 yards. He blocked on over 50% of his snaps last preseason. 

TE 6 – Shaun Beyer – 23 snaps – 16 snaps – 22 snaps – Beyer is a pure blocker. He blocked on 48 of his 61 snaps last preseason. 

K 1 – Greg Joseph

QB 1 – Derek Carr – Carr didn’t play in the Hall of Fame game, but he could get a series or two. The beat reporters continue to call him doubtful

QB 2 – Jarrett Stidham – Stidham played 34 snaps in the Hall of Fame game. 

QB 3 – Nick Mullens – He completed 55.2% of his passes for 129 yards, 0 TDs, & 3 Interceptions last year. He actually had a decent season with the 49ers previously, but his last preseason was horrific. Mullens played 22 snaps in the Hall of Fame game. 

QB 4 – Chase Garbers – Garbers is a UDFA out of Cal. He stands 6-2, 215 pounds and completed 64.3% of his passes for 7.3 yards per attempt, 16 scores, and 8 interceptions. He also rushed for 456 yards on 104 carries. Garbers only played 16 snaps in the Hall of Fame game.

RB 1 – Josh Jacobs – Jacobs surprisingly played 11 snaps and ran 6 routes in the Hall of Fame game. 

RB 2 – Kenyan Drake – Drake surprisingly played 13 snaps and ran 6 routes. 

RB 3 – Ameer Abdullah – Abdullah played 12 snaps and ran 10 routes. 

RB 4 – Zamir White – White was the 122nd overall pick in the 4th Round out of Georgia. He is 6-0, 214 pounds with a 4.40 40-yard dash. He rushed for 856 yards on 160 carries last year, while catching 9 passes. He played in the same backfield as James Cook. Missed the first week of camp, but returned 7/31.White played 20 snaps and ran 10 routes. He led the team in rushing with 11 carries for 52 yards. 

RB 5 – Brittain Brown – Brown was the 251st overall pick in the 7th Round out of UCLA. He is 6-1, 208 pounds and ran a 4.69 40-yard dash. Brown rushed for 615 yards on 102 carries (6.0 YPC) and caught 18 passes last year. Missed practice 8/1. 

RB 6 Brandon Bolden – Bolden was a pass catching specialist & special teamer with New England. He is also a veteran and unlikely to play much here. 

RB 7 – Austin Walter – 10 snaps in Week 1 of the preseason last year. He handled 4 carries for -3 yards with the Jets last year. He previously played with the 49ers in 2019. He was originally a 5-8, 197 pound UDFA out of Rice. Walter played 16 snaps and ran 7 routes. He was the second=-leading rusher with 8 carries for 49 yards and a TD. 

WR 1 – Davante Adams – Adams has been called doubtful by reporters. 

WR 2 – Hunter Renfrow – Renfrow did not play in the Hall of Fame game and shouldn’t get more than a series or two maximum. 

WR 3 – Demarcus Robinson – 10 snaps, 29 snaps, 11 snaps with the Chiefs last year. Robinson played 26 snaps and ran 15 routes. 

WR 4 – Keelan Cole – 21 snaps, 20 snaps, 17 snaps with the Jets last year. He caught 3 passes for 28 scoreless yards. Cole played 29 snaps and ran 18 routes. 

WR 5 – Mack Hollins – He caught 6 of 7 targets for 69 scoreless yards last year. Hollins has been praised a lot at camp. Hollins played 21 snaps and ran 14 routes. 

WR 6 – Tyron Johnson – Johnson caught 9 of 15 targets for 54 scoreless yards last year. He is 6-1, 193 pounds and was a UDFA out of Oklahoma State. Another guy having a solid camp. Robinson, Cole, Hollins, and Johnson are all battling for WR3/WR4 duties. Johnson played 44 snaps and ran 25 routes. 

WR 7 – DJ Turner – Turner caught 11 of 13 balls for 77 scoreless yards last year. He is a 2021 UDFA out of Pittsburgh. Turner played 19 snaps and ran 14 routes. 

WR 8 – Isaiah Zuber – Zuber caught 6 of 9 targets for 71 yards and a score with New England last preseason. He is also a veteran of the USFL, where he played for the Houston Gamblers. Zuber played 28 snaps and ran 15 routes. 

WR 9 – Justin Hall – Hall is a UDFA out of Ball State. He is 5-9, 186 pounds, but he caught 61 balls for 613 yards and 5 scores with Ball State last year. He also handled 37 carries for 255 yards. He had 30 carries in back-to-back seasons. Hall played 6 snaps and ran 3 routes. 

WR 10 – Chris Lacy – The Raiders cut Jordan Veasy and signed Chris Lacy on Aug. 11.

WR 11 – Dillon Stoner – on PUP

TE 1- Darren Waller – Waller is dealing with a hamstring and will not play. 

TE 2 – Foster Moreau – Moreau played 16 snaps and ran 8 routes in the Hall of Fame game. 

TE 3 – Jacob Hollister – Hollister caught 4 of 6 targets for 53 scoreless yards last preseason with Buffalo. He is 6-4, 245 and ran 101 routes on 174 snaps last regular season. Hollister played 20 snaps and ran 10 roues. 

TE 4 – Nick Bowers – Bowers is 6-4, 260 pounds. He ran 32 routes on 93 snaps last preseason, but he caught 5 of 5 targets for 45 yards and a score with the Raiders. Bowers played 24 snaps and ran 8 routes. 

TE 5 – Jesper Horsted – Horsted caught 6 of 8 targets for 113 yards and 3 scores with the Bears last preseason. He ran 49 routes on 79 snaps. He is 6-4, 225 pounds and profiles more as a receiving TE. He played college at Princeton. Horstead played 13 snaps and ran 8 routes. 

TE 6 – Cole Fotheringham – Fotheringham is a UDFA out of Utah. He is 6-4, 243 pounds. He only ran 114 routes on 476 snaps in college last year and was used primarily as a blocker. Fotheringham played 16 snaps and ran 6 routes.
