NFL DFS Picks: Super Wild Card SNF | Ravens-Bengals

Baltimore Ravens: 18.5 Points

Quarterback

The Stokastic NFL DFS projections have Tyler Huntley (shoulder) ranked ahead of only rookie Skylar Thompson for Super Wild Card Weekend. Of course, this would have been a much different analysis if Lamar Jackson were healthy, but here we are. Jackson was injured in Week 13, and the Ravens have been helmed by Huntley and third-stringer Anthony Brown ever since.

In previous seasons, Huntley has flashed some fantasy potential when covering for Jackson. However, this season there are very few playmakers at the skill positions to provide help. Cincinnati has the 12th-best passing DVOA per Football Outsiders, so this is going to be an uphill climb for the visiting Ravens. It will be a challenge for Huntley to post 200 combined yards tonight. Baltimore turned to Brown last week in a meaningless game against these same Bengals in an effort to help Huntley heal up for tonight’s tilt.

Running Back

J.K. Dobbins will be the lead back tonight and as such will get the first crack at the opportunities. He is a capable runner and receiver but has dealt with injuries throughout this season. While he is not on the injury report this week, it would be somewhat surprising to see him with more than 50% to 60% of the snaps. Gus Edwards, of course, is the best rusher of this group, but when he is in the game the defense can set up against the ground attack.

Kenyan Drake will be the backup, and coach John Harbaugh is not afraid to turn to the veteran. Drake did get five targets last week, but that should be considered an anomaly. Tonight he projects for half a dozen opportunities, and there is attainable upside if Dobbins is ineffective. Update: Kenyan Drake is inactive tonight.

Wide Receiver

Devin Duvernay and Rashod Bateman are on the shelf, so the Ravens have been forced to turn to Demarcus Robinson as the WR1. Fantasy gamers are well aware of the empty routes he runs from his time in Kansas City, and he has not done much with Baltimore, even with half a dozen targets per game over the last two months. The cupboard is so bare that the Ravens claimed Sammy Watkins off of waivers after he was released by Green Bay in late December.

DeSean Jackson is still around, and he will likely get a couple of targets, but his days as a game breaker on limited opportunities are long gone. He could catch lightning in a bottle once more, but the deck is stacked against this outcome. James Proche and Tylan Wallace should at least see the field for some offensive snaps, but they are far from productive choices.

Tight End

Mark Andrews continues chugging along, but he is yet another Raven who has been dealing with injuries all season. He was inactive last week, so he should at least be somewhat refreshed and, of course, he is the de facto WR1. On DraftKings he is appealing with a $7,800 salary, though it is hard to see much upside on FanDuel at $11,000 unless he scores a touchdown. Isaiah Likely is a strong option who can be employed for half of the salary cap hit of his counterpart, and he could make some noise with three or four targets. Josh Oliver is the blocking tight end and a punt option on DraftKings for $1,000, with the hope he doesn’t post a bagel in the box score.

Defense/Special Teams

Baltimore has recorded multiple sacks in 15 of 17 games this season, including both matchups against Cincinnati. It has been a month since the last interception for the Ravens, though they do have a pair of fumble recoveries in this stretch. The Bengals will likely cede a couple of sacks, but it is hard to get excited for the prospects of this unit.

Cincinnati Bengals: 25.0 Points

Quarterback

Joe Burrow has been impressive this season, and his 279.7 passing yards per game and 35 aerial touchdowns are behind only Patrick Mahomes. Baltimore is a top-10 defense, but the Bengals have an embarrassment of riches at the skill positions. Burrow rates out as the second-best quarterback in median fantasy projections, with Josh Allen wearing the QB1 mantle. Though he does not run unless necessary, the defense will have to respect the former LSU Tiger, as he accounted for five rushing scores this season.

Running Back

Joe Mixon is showing that he is a complete back, and he had a career-high 75 targets for 60 receptions, 441 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He is also capable of handling 20 carries in a game, and even in this tough matchup, he should see favorable running lanes with his dynamic teammates keeping the defense from stacking the box.

Samaje Perine is a solid backup, and he will be on the field for around 40% of the snaps. He does play second fiddle to Mixon when it comes to rushing volume, but he can break off a 20-yard carry or catch, and if he gets into the second level of the defense, watch out. Perine is a borderline core play on DraftKings ($5,600) with a nearly 50% discount from Mixon, but the $2,000 savings on FanDuel is not particularly appealing outside of tournament differentiation for those building 50 or more lineups.

Wide Receiver

Ja’Marr Chase continues to be otherworldly, and he has double-digit targets in seven of his last eight games. He also has four games with 119 or more receiving yards, and two of these games were multi-touchdown efforts. The second-year wideout is going to be on a majority of lineups, and yet we still need to consider being well above the field.

Tee Higgins has dealt with a myriad of injuries this season, and the team has been cagey with his status on more than one occasion in primetime matchups. This week he missed practice with an illness, but he was a full participant on Thursday and Friday. He has been an excellent sidekick for Chase, and Higgins also had four games with 114 or more receiving yards.

Tyler Boyd seems to have wrested the third wideout role away from Trenton Irwin, though that could change at any time. Boyd is a solid option on the main DFS sites, projecting for just shy of five targets. Irwin is a long shot on DraftKings ($1,400), but he can be skipped on FanDuel ($8,000).

Tight End

Hayden Hurst is healthy and looking at linebacker coverage most passing plays with the Bengals loaded offense giving opposing defenses headaches. The former Raven is a core play on both DFS sites for his salary savings. Mitchell Wilcox will be on the field for around 40% of the offensive snaps, and while he was solid when Hurst was out, he is well down the target list with everyone healthy.

Defense/Special Teams

Cincinnati is coming off of back-to-back four-sack games, and they have a baseline of at least two at home tonight. This is also an opportunistic defense that thrives when the opposition is forced to play catchup.

Wild Card Sunday Night Football Ravens-Bengals DFS Single-Game Strategy

The rankings below are best utilized for building out single-entry and three-max lineups, and for head-to-head and three-man formats. They provide a nice barometer for player value. However, those taking the MME approach should remember that correlation is key. This means matching a receiver or two with a quarterback in the Captain/MVP slot. That also works conversely, pairing a Captain/MVP pass catcher with his quarterback.

Wild Card Sunday Night Football Ravens-Bengals DFS Rankings

Top 10 NFL DFS Showdown Picks For Ravens-Bengals

  1. Ja’Marr Chase: Can score from anywhere on the field and should get enough volume to support his lofty salary.
  2. Joe Mixon: Contributes in all facets of the offense.
  3. Joe Burrow: Anything less than 250 yards and a pair of touchdowns is going to be a disappointment.
  4. Tyler Huntley: Keep in mind that 5-1 and 4-2 game stacks favoring Cincinnati will be wildly popular. Anything can happen in an NFL game, of course, but the probabilities are not favorable for the Baltimore offense.
  5. Hayden Hurst: Salary saver on both DraftKings and FanDuel.
  6. Evan McPherson: Great surname, even better fantasy game.
  7. Isaiah Likely: Another salary saver who can enable star-studded roster construction.
  8. Mark Andrews: If Jackson were under center, Andrews would be a top-five option.
  9. Justin Tucker: Arguably the greatest kicker of all time and still in his prime.
  10. Samaje Perine: Favorable cap hit and could get extensive fourth quarter mop-up duty.

Secondary NFL DFS Showdown Picks For Ravens-Bengals

  1. Tee Higgins: Would be the WR1 on half of the teams in the league.
  2. Cincinnati D/ST: No discounts here, but that makes sense given the sorry state of the Ravens.
  3. Baltimore D/ST: It is going to be cold, and mistakes can be capitalized on; opportunities for this will be few, however.
  4. J.K. Dobbins: Outside of getting in the end zone, it is hard to envision a double-digit fantasy game unless he is peppered with targets.
  5. Tyler Boyd: Lost in the shuffle on a loaded offense.

Lottery Ticket NFL DFS Showdown Picks For Ravens-Bengals

  1. Demarcus Robinson: Should get half a dozen targets; production is a different matter.
  2. DeSean Jackson: Once more unto the breach.
  3. Gus Edwards: The Gus Bus is running on a limited weekend schedule.
  4. Kenyan Drake: Enters the conversation after 20 or so lineups. Update: Kenyan Drake is inactive tonight.
  5. James Proche: Could be used as a core option on DraftKings at the $200 minimum salary in cash builds.
  6. Trenton Irwin and Mitchell Wilcox: Deep backups, but both have had moments over the last two months.
  7. Justice Hill and Patrick Ricard: Minimum-salary DraftKings specials.
  8. Anthony Brown: Would need something to befall Huntley in the early portion of the game.
  9. Sammy Watkins, Tylan Wallace, Andy Isabella, Chris Evans and Trayveon Williams: Meh. Update: Chris Evans is inactive tonight.
