NFL DFS: Friday’s Preseason Week 1 Value Plays, Sleepers & NFL DFS Picks for DraftKings & FanDuel (August 12)

The preseason has finally arrived, and Week 1 continues with a five-game slate for Friday night (Aug. 12, 2022). Preseason DFS creates an unique environment where information reigns supreme. Finding which players will play the most can significantly increase the likelihood of NFL preseason DFS success. This piece will dig into the roster of each team and pinpoint exactly where that value might come from and be the ultimate guide for making the best NFL DFS picks tonight for DraftKings and FanDuel lineups.

Atlanta Falcons

Note – Everyone who is healthy will play in the preseason.

QB1 – Marcus Mariota – Mariota didn’t play last preseason but will play here.

QB2 – Desmond Ridder – Ridder was drafted 74th overall in the third round out of Cincinnati. He is 6-foot-3, 211 pounds and ran a 4.52 40-yard dash. He should get extended run this preseason.

QB3 – Feleipe Franks – 27 snaps – 38 snaps – 23 snaps – Franks completed 42.3% of his passes for 128 yards, zero touchdowns and one interception. Franks is 6-foot-6, 228 pounds and ran a 4.61 40-yard dash. He has been playing some tight end in camp.

RB1 – Cordarrelle Patterson – Patterson didn’t play last preseason.

RB2 – Damien Williams – Williams didn’t play last preseason. Williams has been banged up, but he returned to practice on Aug. 5.

RB3 – Tyler Allgeier – Allgeier was the 151st pick in the fifth round out of BYU. He is 5-foot-11, 224 pounds and ran a 4.60 40-yard dash. He rushed for 1,130 and 1,601 yards in back-to-back years, while catching 42 passes in those two seasons. Williams’ injury allowed Allgeier to impress with the first team. 2

RB4 – Avery Williams – Williams didn’t play last preseason. He was drafted 184th overall in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He played corner in college, but Atlanta changed his position this offseason. He is 5-foot-9, 195 pounds and profiles a pass catching back. Williams has received rave reviews as a pass catching specialist this preseason.

RB5 – Qadree Ollison – 0 snaps – 18 snaps – 19 snaps – Ollison carried the ball 12 times for 42 yards last preseason. He also carried the ball 21 times for 105 yards, while catching 4 of 6 targets during the regular season. He is 6-foot-2, 225 pounds and excels at slamming into the back of his offensive line. He has also received some reps with the first team with Williams previously sidelined.

RB6 – Caleb Huntley– 29 snaps – 13 snaps – 23 snaps – Huntley carried the ball 20 times for 91 yards and one touchdown. He also caught 2 of 3 targets for 19 yards. He is 5-foot-10, 229 pounds.

RB7 – Keith Smith – Full back

WR1 – Drake London – London was the eighth overall pick in the first round coming out of USC. he is 6-foot-4, 219 pounds and didn’t test due to an ankle injury in his final year at USC.

WR2 – Olamide Zaccheaus – 0 snaps – 0 snaps – 9 snaps

WR3 – Bryan Edwards – Edwards didn’t play last preseason. He was drafted 81st overall by the Raiders in 2020 but has since been traded to Atlanta. He has 45 career regular season catches. Edwards was in a no contact jersey Aug. 6.

WR4 – Auden Tate – 22 snaps – 28 snaps – 23 snaps – Tate caught 4 of 5 targets for 34 yards last preseason.

WR5 – Damiere Byrd – 8 snaps – 21 snaps – 0 snaps – Byrd caught both of his targets for 5 yards with Chicago last preseason.

WR6 – KhaDarel Hodge – 20 snaps – 30 snaps – 14 snaps – Hodge caught 4 of 8 targets for 63 yards and two touchdowns last preseason with Cleveland.

WR7 – Frank Darby – 32 snaps – 21 snaps – 32 snaps – Darby caught 4 of 5 targets for 40 yards last preseason. Darby has been working with the Ridder group.

WR8 – Geronimo Allison – 26 snaps – 30 snaps – 22 snaps – Allison caught 5 of 9 targets for 64 yards with Detroit last preseason.

WR9 – Cameron Batson – 12 snaps – 31 snaps – 34 snaps – Batson caught 6 of 7 targets for 66 yards and two touchdowns with Tennessee last preseason. Batson returned to practice Aug. 6.

WR10 – Tyshaun James – James is an undrafted free agent out of Central Connecticut State. He is 6-foot-3, 210 pounds and ran a 4.45 40-yard dash. James is playing with the Franks unit.

WR11 – Jared Bernhardt – Bernhardt is an undrafted free agent out of Ferris State. He is 6-foot-1, 195 pounds. He ran a 4.70 40-yard dash. Bernhardt is playing well in camp and could make the practice squad.

WR12 – Stanley Berryhill – Berryhill is an undrafted free agent out of Arizona. He is 5-foot-9, 182 pounds and ran a 4.45 40-yard dash. Berryhill has impressed and will likely see plenty of reps in the preseason.

TE1- Kyle Pitts – 0 snaps – 0 snaps – 2 snaps – Pitts will play this preseason allegedly.

TE2 – Anthony Firkser – 3 snaps – 7 snaps – 9 snaps – Firkser caught both of his targets for 15 yards last preseason. He is primarily a pass catching tight end.

TE3 – Parker Hesse – 23 snaps – 33 snaps – 25 snaps – Hesse caught both of his targets for 12 yards. He is 6-foot-3, 261 pounds and came out of Iowa in 2019.

TE4 – John FitzPatrick – Fitzpatrick was the 214th pick in the sixth round out of Georgia. He is 6-foot-7, 262 pounds and ran a 4.82 40-yard dash.

TE5 – Tucker Fisk – Fisk is an undrafted free agent out of Stanford. He is 6-foot-4, 285 pounds and basically an extra lineman.

TE6 – John Raine – Raine is 6-foot-2, 230 pounds and came out of Northwestern as an undrafted free agent. He caught 3 of 6 targets for 22 yards last year.

TE7 – Mycole Pruitt – Pruitt is a solid blocker.

RB6 – Godwin Igwebuike – 9 snaps – 20 snaps – 15 snaps – He rushed 15 times for 46 yards and two touchdowns. Igwebuike caught 2 of 3 targets for 14 yards.

WR8 – Trinity Benson – 20 snaps – 19 snaps – 20 snaps – Benson caught all eight of his targets for 80 yards and two touchdowns last preseason with Denver. He has been playing with the Blough group. Some people are saying Benson missed practice on Aug. 10, but that hasn’t been confirmed.

WR9 – Kalil Pimpleton – Pimpleton is an undrafted free agent out of Central Michigan. He is 5-foot-8, 172 pounds and ran a 4.49 40-yard dash. Pimpleton is a solid returner too. He could be competing directly with Benson for a roster spot.

WR10 – Josh Johnson – Johnson is an undrafted free agent out of Tulsa. He is 5-foot-11, 183 pounds and ran a 4.62 40-yard dash. Johnson missed practice Aug. 8.

WR11 – Maurice Alexander – Alexander is a late camp addition. He played for the Philadelphia Stars in the USFL.

TE1- T.J. Hockenson – Hockenson didn’t play last preseason.

TE2 – Garrett Griffin – 15 snaps – 0 snaps – 0 snaps – Griffin caught 1 of 2 targets for 3 yards.

TE3 – Brock Wright – 15 snaps – 22 snaps – 24 snaps – Wright is mostly a blocker, but he caught 2 of 3 targets for 26 yards last preseason.

TE4 – James Mitchell – Mitchell was the 177th pick in the fifth round out of Virginia Tech. Mitchell ran a 4.77 40-yard dash and caught 26 passes for 435 yards in 2020. He suffered a season ending injury just two games into 2021.

QB1 – Deshaun Watson – Watson is expected to start and play a few series.

QB2 – Jacoby Brissett – 23 snaps – 20 snaps – 0 snaps – Miami Dolphins backup quarterback last year.

QB3 – Joshua Dobbs -17 snaps – 18 snaps – 0 snaps – 18 snaps – He completed 65.2% of his passes for 102 yards, one touchdown and one interception with the Steelers last year, who played in the Hall of Fame game.

QB4 – Josh Rosen – 33 snaps – 0 snaps – 32 snaps – Rosen completed 57.6% of his snaps for 211 yards, one touchdown and one interception with Atlanta and San Francisco last preseason.

RB1 – Nick Chubb

RB2 – Kareem Hunt

RB3 – D’Ernest Johnson – 22 snaps – 25 snaps – 20 snaps – He carried 12 times for 61 yards, but he has since worked his way into a clear role for this team. He probably won’t play as much this preseason.

RB4 – Demetric Felton – 26 snaps – 16 snaps – 14 snaps – Felton rushed 12 times for 40 yards last preseason and caught 5 of 8 targets for 56 yards. Felton has also been practicing at slot receiver, which could be a better path for him to make this roster.

RB5 – Jerome Ford – Ford was the 156th pick in the fifth round out of Cincinnati. He is 5-foot-11, 210 pounds and rushed for 1,319 yards on 215 carries, while catching 21 passes.

RB6 – John Kelly – 21 snaps, 21 snaps, 28 snaps – Kelly rushed 27 times for 87 yards and a touchdown with the Browns last year in the preseason.

RB7 – Johnny Stanton – Full back.

WR1 – Amari Cooper

WR2 – Donovan Peoples-Jones – 16 snaps – 15 snaps – 13 snaps – Peoples-Jones caught 5 of 7 targets for 47 yards.

WR3 – David Bell – Bell was the 99th pick in the third round coming out of Purdue. He is 6-foot-1, 212 pounds and caught 93 passes for 1,286 yards last year. He was a true freshman breakout, but he ran a 4.60 40-yard dash, dropping him to the third round. Bell has a stress fracture in his foot, but he has been practicing. Kevin Stefanski said he’s not ruling out Bell for the preseason opener.

WR4 – Jakeem Grant – 14 snaps – 11 snaps – 0 snaps – Grant caught 2 of 2 targets for 16 yards last preseason with Miami. He is a lifelong special teamer. Grant landed on injured reserve Aug. 10 after getting carted off the field.

WR5 – Anthony Schwartz – 0 snaps – 0 snaps – 19 snaps – He caught his only target for 6 yards. Schwartz returned to practice Aug. 6.

WR6 – Javon Wims – 17 snaps – 7 snaps – 0 snaps – Wims went catchless on one target last preseason with Chicago.

WR7 – Ja’Marcus Bradley – 45 snaps – 0 snaps – 61 snaps – Bradley caught 5 of 7 targets for 93 yards.

WR8 – Mike Woods – Woods was drafted 203rd overall in the sixth round out of Oklahoma. Woods is 6-foot-1, 204 pounds and caught 35 passes for 400 yards in his final season. Woods has a hamstring injury and will “miss some time.”

WR9 – Mike Harley – Harley is an undrafted free agent out of Miami. He is 5-foot-11, 182 pounds and caught 57 passes for 543 yards last year.

WR10 – Travell Harris – Harris is an undrafted free agent out of Washington State. He is 5-foot-9, 185 pounds and caught 76 passes for 814 yards.

WR11 – Derrick Dillon – Dillon was recently signed after Weston went on injured reserve. He was a situational receiver for the Tampa Bay Bandits in the USFL.

TE2 – Harrison Bryant – 17 snaps – 0 snaps – 5 snaps – Bryant is higher up the depth chart this year.

TE3 – Miller Forristall – 22 snaps – 13 snaps – 31 snaps – Forristall caught 4 of 5 targets for 36 yards and one touchdown with Tennessee last year.

TE4 – Nakia Griffin-Stewart – 13 snaps – 22 snaps – 22 snaps – NGS caught 3 of 3 targets for 30 yards with the Giants last year.

Jacksonville Jaguars

QB1 – Trevor Lawrence – Lawrence did not play in the Hall of Fame Game. The starters will play in Week 1 of the preseason. Doug Pederson said it will be a couple series, maximum.

QB2 – C.J. Beathard – Beathard previously threw for 309 yards, three touchdowns and one interception in 2021. Beathard did not play in the Hall of Fame Game, but he will play more here as the locked-in backup.

QB3 – Jake Luton – Luton is 6-foot-7, 229 pounds. He came out of Oregon State in 2020 as the 189th pick in the sixth round. Luton was the No. 3 quarterback last year, but he has benefitted from Beathard missing time in early camp. He threw for 190 yards and two touchdowns last year. Luton played 17 snaps and threw for 94 yards on 17 attempts in the Hall of Fame game.

QB4 – E.J. Perry – The Jaguars cut Kyle Sloter after playing 41 snaps in the Hall of Fame game. They signed Perry again, who previously played with the team prior to injury. Perry is an undrafted free agent out of Brown. He is 6-foot-2, 211 pounds and rushed for 402 yards and seven touchdowns last year. Perry is a solid dual threat.

RB1 – James Robinson – Robinson is coming off a torn Achilles, but he is practicing. Robinson won’t play here as he continues to rehab.

RB2 – Travis Etienne – Etienne is full go in camp and working with the first team. He has allegedly been excelling in camp. Etienne will play in Week 1 after missing the Hall of Fame game.

RB3 – Snoop Conner – Conner is a rookie out of Ole Miss, drafted with the 154th pick in the fifth round. He is 5-foot-10, 222 pounds and rushed for 647 yards on 130 attempts last year. He also caught 14 receptions. Conner played 10 snaps and ran six routes in the Hall of Fame game.

RB4 – Ryquell Armstead – Played 57 snaps in the 2019 preseason. He is 5-foot-11, 220 and was drafted with pick 140 in the fifth round of the 2019 class out of Temple. He had a rough battle with COVID-19, but he’s back. He’s been playing with the Luton group. Armstead played 17 snaps and ran 15 routes in the Hall of Fame game.

RB5 – Mekhi Sargent – Sargent played 16 snaps and ran nine routes in the Hall of Fame game. He led the team with five carries for 22 yards.

RB6 – Matt Colburn – The Jaguars cut Nathan Cottrell and signed former Wake Forest and USFL alum Colburn. Colburn has a three-down skill set and excelled with the Philadelphia Stars.

WR1 – Christian Kirk – Kirk missed practice on Aug. 10 with an ankle injury.

WR2 – Marvin Jones

WR3 – Zay Jones

WR4 – Laviska Shenault – Shenault now enters his third year after coming out of Colorado with the 42nd pick in Round 2. He is battling for the WR3 role with Zay Jones and working with the 1’s. He worked off to the side on Aug. 10.

WR5 – Jamal Agnew – Agnew is primarily a special teamer and he is coming off hip surgery this offseason. Still not a full participant and won’t play in preseason Week 1.

WR6 – Laquon Treadwell – Treadwell has been practicing with Lawrence/Luton. Treadwell played 10 snaps and ran six routes last week.

WR7 – Jeff Cotton – Cotton is a 2020 undrafted free agent out of Idaho. He is 6-foot-2, 204 pounds. Cotton has been working mostly with Luton, but he received some snaps with Lawrence. He caught seven receptions on 10 targets for 116 yards and a touchdown in the 2021 preseason. Cotton saw 31 snaps and 23 routes last week.

WR8 – Tim Jones – Jones is a 2021 undrafted free agent out of Southern Miss. He is 6-foot-1, 202 pounds and caught 30 passes for 480 yards in seven games in 2021. He didn’t play in the 2021 preseason. He has been playing mostly with Luton but received a few snaps with Lawrence. Jones saw 31 snaps and 28 routes last week.

WR9 – Marvin Hall – Hall is a longtime journeyman, who stands 5-foot-10, 190 pounds. He didn’t record any snaps last year in the preseason. However, he did play 13 snaps in Week 11 last year in the regular season. He has been working with the Luton group. Hall saw 23 snaps and 18 routes last week.

WR10 – Lujuan Winningham – Winningham is a 2022 undrafted free agent out of Central Arkansas. He is 6-foot-3, 198 pounds and he caught 42 passes for 700 yards in seven games last year. He has been playing with Luton, but he has drawn rave reviews from beat reporters. Winningham saw 23 snaps and 18 routes last week.

WR11 – Kevin Austin – Austin is a 2022 undrafted free agent out of Notre Dame. He is 6-foot-2, 200 pounds and ran a 4.43 40-yard dash. He was a 1-year wonder at Notre Dame and caught 48 passes for 888 yards and seven touchdowns. He has been playing with the Luton group and the Sloter group. Austin saw 40 snaps and 29 routes last week.

WR12 – Willie Johnson – Johnson is a 2022 undrafted free agent out of Marshall. He is 6-foot-0, 178 pounds and caught 32 passes for 625 yards in 2021. He played six years in college and won’t make this roster. He has played almost exclusively with Sloter. Johnson saw 13 snaps and nine routes last week.

WR13 – Ryan McDaniel – McDaniel is a 2022 undrafted free agent out of North Carolina Central. He is 6-foot-2, 215 pounds and 52 passes for 678 yards and four touchdowns. He has played almost exclusively with Sloter. McDaniel saw eight snaps and seven routes last week.

TE1 – Evan Engram

TE2 – Dan Arnold – Arnold played with Carolina before coming over via trade last year. He played 10 snaps and ran six routes in the Hall of Fame game.

TE3 – Chris Manhertz – Manhertz should be the third string tight end after playing 388 snaps last year. However, 28 0of those snaps were blocking. Manhertz did not play last week.

TE4 – Luke Farrell – Farrell played 255 offensive snaps for Jacksonville last year. He spent 145 of them blocking and 110 running routes. He played 18 snaps and ran 12 routes in the Hall of Fame game.

TE5 – Gerrit Prince – Prince is a 2022 undrafted free agent out of UAB. he is 6-foot-5, 241 pounds and he caught 36 passes for 699 yards and 10 touchdowns last year. Prince has worked with all three groups so far (Lawrence, Luton, Sloter), but most of his work has come with Luton. Prince played 28 snaps and ran 19 routes.

TE6 – Grayson Gunter – Gunter is an undrafted free agent out of Southern Miss. He is 6-foot-5, 247 pounds and caught 15 passes for 182 yards last year. He blocked on 365 of his 613 snaps in college. Gunter has played with all three groups and worked some with the Lawrence group as well. Gunter received 21 snaps and ran 11 routes last week.

New York Jets

QB1 – Zach Wilson – 22 snaps – 22 snaps – 0 snaps – Wilson completed 75% of his passes for 191 yards and two touchdowns last year. According to Robert Salah, the starters will play a quarter.

QB2 – Joe Flacco – 23 snaps – 30 snaps – 25 snaps – Flacco completed 66% of his passes for 449 yards, three touchdowns and one interception.

QB3 – Mike White – 31 snaps – 18 snaps – 0 snaps – White completed 71.4% of his passes for 166 scoreless yards.

QB4 – Chris Streveler – 48 snaps – 12 snaps – 0 snaps – Streveler completed 56.7% of his passes for 181 yards and one touchdown. Streveler has solid mobility and rushed 10 times for 59 yards last year.

RB1 – Breece Hall – Hall was the 36th overall pick in the second round out of Iowa State. He is 5-foot-11, 217 pounds. He rushed 253 times for 1,472 yards, while catching 36 passes in his final season.

RB2 – Michael Carter – 16 snaps – 20 snaps – 12 snaps – Carter rushed 24 times for 86 yards and caught three passes for 15 yards.

RB3 – Tevin Coleman – 0 snaps – 10 snaps – 0 snaps

RB4 – Ty Johnson – 20 snaps – 12 snaps – 23 snaps – Johnson rushed 28 times for 108 yards and a touchdown. He also caught four passes for 25 yards. Johnson has been out of practice with a hamstring injury.

RB5 – La’Mical Perine – 29 snaps – 12 snaps – 0 snaps – Perine rushed 18 times for 46 times and one touchdown. He didn’t receive any targets. Perine is playing with the Flacco unit.

RB6 – Zonovan Knight – Knight is an undrafted free agent out of North Carolina State. He is 5-foot-11, 209 pounds and rushed 140 times for 753 yards, while catching 21 passes. He ran a 4.58 40-yard dash. Knight is having an excellent preseason and continues to move ahead of Johnson (injured) and Perine.

WR1 – Elijah Moore – Moore didn’t play last preseason.

WR2 – Garrett Wilson– Wilson was the 10th overall pick in the first round out of Ohio State. He caught 70 passes for 1,058 yards and 12 touchdowns last year.

WR10 – Marcus Johnson– 9 snaps – 0 snaps – 11 snaps – Johnson caught his only target for 6 yards. Johnson was in concussion protocol Aug. 7.

WR11 – Willie Snead – Snead was signed Aug. 7.

TE1- George Kittle – 0 snaps – 0 snaps – 10 snaps – Shanahan noted that some starters will not dress for this game.

TE2 – Ross Dwelley – 11 snaps – 11 snaps – 21 snaps – Dwelley did not record any state last preseason.

TE3 – Charlie Woerner – 33 snaps – 31 snaps – 29 snaps – Woerner caught 3 of 6 targets for 44 yards. Woerner hasn’t practiced yet with a core muscle injury.

TE4 – Tyler Kroft – 17 snaps – 12 snaps – 0 snaps – Kroft caught 3 of 4 targets for 49 yards and two touchdowns.
