Week 3 NFL Survivor Picks: Chargers Are a Top Play This Week IF Justin Herbert Is Healthy Enough

It is on to Week 3 of the NFL season, and already survivor pools are thinning out due to the massive upsets in both Week 1 and 2. As more teams become unavailable, the process of choosing a survivor team gets more difficult, but in Week 3 there are plenty of options to consider.

NFL Survivor Picks and Recap | Week 3

Week 2 NFL Survivor Pool Recap

Rams (-11 vs. Falcons)

When the score was 28-3, it was clear this was as sweat-free a survivor choice as there could be in Week 2. A few touchdowns later, and like most games it seemed destined for an all-time comeback by the Falcons. Fortunately, the Rams were able to hold on and avoid what would have been a brutal loss for anyone who went there in survivor. Not having them available for the rest of the year hurts, but they did get the job done.

Browns (-6.5 vs. Jets)

Upwards of 19% of entries went with the Browns last week, and it made sense at home against the Jets. With just a few minutes left, the game was virtually over, but in typical Browns fashion, they found a way to lose a game in an historic manner in terms of win probability. The result was a big chunk of people eliminated and a big leap forward for anyone who avoided this land mine.

Broncos (-10 vs. Texans)

This was this column’s selection last week, with Denver expected to bounce back at home after a disappointing Week 1 effort. They won, which ultimately is all that matters, but it’s hard to be encouraged by how they performed. The Broncos had multiple delay-of-game penalties, misused their timeouts and struggled to get separation from the lowly Texans.

Week 3 NFL Survivor Pool Picks

Bengals (-4.5 at Jets)

It’s quickly becoming must-win territory for the AFC champions, as Cincinnati dropped another game last week to Dallas. They are 0-2, so anyone still playing has them available, and now they draw a road matchup with the Jets. Step 1 is keeping Joe Burrow upright, as he has been sacked 13 times in just two games. The Jets only have three sacks, and despite last week’s miracle, they have serious issues on both sides of the ball. The Jets are one of the best opponents, if not the best, to target when choosing a survivor side, so targeting Cincinnati is fine here.

Chargers (-6.5 vs. Jaguars)

Justin Herbert’s status will be essential, and the Chargers are not playable unless he is ruled active. If he does play, he draws a quality matchup against the Jaguars at home, and he has every weapon offensively. Keenan Allen could return, and the Chargers are coming off a Thursday night game, which gives them additional rest days between matchups. The Jaguars are improved, but they are still one of the biggest underdogs on this Week 3 schedule, so it is unlikely they emerge from Los Angeles with a win.

Chiefs (-6.5 at Colts)

The Chiefs might be the most popular selection for this week’s survivor pick, as they are a 6.5-point road favorite against Indianapolis. The Colts just got shut out by the Jaguars, and through two weeks look to be the most disappointing team in the entire league. The Chiefs have massive offensive power, and despite being on the road, they should emerge with a win in this spot. The bigger question is whether to burn the Chiefs in this matchup or save them for a future week.

Week 3 NFL Survivor Pick: Chargers

Teams Used: Ravens, Broncos

If Justin Herbert is OK and available, then fire up the Chargers in Week 3. They are a touchdown favorite at home, have advantages on both sides of the ball and are a suspect team to save for future weeks. With there being no double-digit favorites on the slate, the Chargers are one of the safer options available in Week 3.
