2022 Rocket Mortgage Classic Longshot Golf Bets: Best Sleeper Picks & Predictions

Rocket Mortgage Classic Longshot golf bets 2022 free golf picks golf betting predictions this week

There is over a century’s worth of history at the Detroit Golf Club, but the 2022 Rocket Mortgage Classic is still a fresh event, with just three years on the PGA Tour. The results have been far from consistent given only three years’ worth of a sample size, but the field this week does present some larger openings for longshot value — especially for those golfers who have a knack for playing this course. There are some big names at the top, from last week’s winner Tony Finau to Patrick Cantlay and Will Zalatoris, but the true value lies in the longer shots. Both Cam Davis and Nate Lashley will be on hand as recent winners, while the other in Bryson DeChambeau is a no-go. Below we’re looking at the best 2022 Rocket Mortgage Classic longshot golf bets for the week, and be the ones posting the HUGE PAYOUT screenshots on Twitter.

Detroit Golf Club plays shorter than the 7,370 yards advertised on the score card. There are reachable par 5’s mixed in with a couple of shorter par 4’s under 400 yards. One of the biggest advantages this week is wedge play, specifically from the 150-and-in range. Anyone who can separate themselves from the rest of the pack by creating scoring chances with their high irons or wedges can win this event. Enter Russell Henley, who is one of the best golfers with a wedge in his hand from 150 yards or less. He dominates the current field at Detroit in this category, which can help mitigate any strokes lost off the tee or putting. In fact, Henley is third on tour in strokes gained on approach, 18th in strokes gained tee to green and strokes gained around the green, and 23rd in total strokes gained. He’s better than a 55-1 ticket.

Best Longshot Outright Winner: Russell Henley (+5500, DraftKings)

One great thing to take advantage of is laddering longer shots like Henley. It helps mitigate some risk while maximizing the return when one of these guys does go on a tear. While the risk isn’t totally removed on this play, it is at BetMGM with some free money. Bettors can get $200 back, win or lose, by betting on any MLB game. Free and easy — that’s the best combination.

While the tour has only stopped here for three years, it’s worth noting at any event which golfers seem to prefer a certain track. The two names that will pop up this week when it comes to any horse for this course are Kevin Kisner and Troy Merritt. The value is much lower where the books have Kisner listed — a combination of other names around him and the risk associated with solely relying on his familiarity with Detroit. There’s a much better number for Merritt, who is 10th in the field in total strokes gained. Merritt is only one of nine players in the field to finish top 25 multiple times. He’s 33rd on tour in strokes gained putting, and combined with his strong course history, that makes him a far better player than the 66-1 odds would indicate.

There isn’t a better candidate to ladder than Kisner when applying the three years of course history and level of success. His outright numbers are too low, but attacking top-20s and top-10s can provide a great return. Kisner loves anything designed by Donald Ross, as evident by his success at both the Wyndham and Tour Championship. He’s also one of the better putters on tour — 13th overall in strokes gained putting. He is 26th overall in strokes gained around the green, another indication of how strong his wedge play has been this season. Kisner has made the cut in each of the three years in Detroit and has multiple top-25 finishes.

Best Ladder Bet: Kevin Kisner (Top 20 +170/Top 10 +350, DraftKings)
