PGA DFS Optimizer Picks: 3M Open Leverage Leaders for DraftKings & FanDuel GPP Lineups | 7/20

With the fourth and final major of the season behind it, the PGA Tour now moves on to the 3M Open. This event will be played and has been played at TPC Twin Cities (par 71, 7,431 yards, bentgrass greens) in Blaine, Minnesota since the 3M Open’s inception three years ago. Below, you will find some of the top PGA DFS optimizer picks using Stokastic’s Top Golfers Tool.

PGA DFS Optimal Picks for the 3M Open

To succeed at TPC Twin Cities, one needs to catch fire with your flat stick, be efficient on the par 4’s and avoid all the water hazards at this par 71. At each of the last two 3M Opens, the player to walk away with the top prize has finished first in strokes gained putting for the week. Furthermore, all three of the golfers to win a 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities have either led their field or finished runner-up in strokes gained on the par 4’s during their victories. Without question, this course’s biggest defense is the 27 water hazards. Water comes into to play on 15 of the 18 holes at TPC Twin Cities and this track led the PGA Tour with 317 water balls a year ago. Each of the last two champions at this venue have ranked top-five in least bogeys during their wins, making players who rank well in bogey avoidance wise choices this week.

Chez Reavie

Stokastic PGA Optimizer Leverage Scores Ranks: DraftKings: 87th, FanDuel: 57th

Reavie arrives in Blaine as the maker of five of his last seven cuts, with four of these finishes being top-15 results. Most notably, he just won the Barracuda Championship this past week, including a 9-under 62 during the second round, one stroke off Reavie’s career low. He has been dialed in with his irons, gaining strokes on approach in six of his last seven starts, and Reavie is an excellent player on bentgrass greens, making the cut in seven of his last 10 attempts at tracks that present this type of green. Of these seven made cuts on bentgrass, six have been top-30 finishes, with the highlight of the group being an 11th in Reavie’s debut at TPC Twin Cities last year. Considering his current form and that the 3M Open’s field is much weaker this season, Reavie brings even better upside this time around and is one of the best high-end contrarian options available this week, with Stokastic’s Top Golfers Tool slating him for sub 5% ownership on both DraftKings and FanDuel.

C.T. Pan

Stokastic PGA Optimizer Leverage Scores Ranks: DraftKings: 17th, FanDuel: 23rd

Thanks to some impressive work with his irons, ranking seventh in strokes gained on approach for the week, finished 24th at the John Deere Classic in his most recent start. Pan has now produced five top-30s and made 10 cuts in his past 12 starts. This will be his debut at TPC Twin Cities, but Pan checks all the boxes for this par 71. Over his past 36 rounds, he ranks ninth in strokes gained on approach, 24th in strokes gained on par 4’s and 20th in bogey avoidance. Furthermore, Pan’s flat stick has come alive recently, gaining strokes on the greens in five of his last six starts. With a 9.1% chance of finishing inside the top six at the 3M Open via Stokastic’s Top Golfers Tool, Pan brings much better upside than his current salaries suggest.

Hayden Buckley

Stokastic PGA Optimizer Leverage Scores Ranks: DraftKings: 6th, FanDuel: 9th

Buckley brings some very encouraging form to TPC Twin Cities this week and is projected to come with little to no ownership on both DraftKings and FanDuel, according to Stokastic’s Top Golfers Tool. After a rough patch of missing four cuts in a row, he has proceeded to the weekend at four straight tournaments, shooting even par or better in 12 of these 16 rounds. Buckley also gained strokes on approach in all four of these starts and this run was kicked off with an impressive 16th at the U.S. Open. This four-event stretch moved him up a notable 40 spots in the world golf rankings and Buckley is severely underpriced for his ceiling in this weak field.

Brice Garnett

Stokastic PGA Optimizer Leverage Scores Ranks: DraftKings: 5th, FanDuel: 4th

Garnett has been one of the best players at TPC Twin Cities, advancing to the weekend at all three of the 3M Opens played at this venue, with no finishes worse than 26th. On top of the stellar course history, he is fresh off a 16th at the Barracuda Championship, in which he shot under par in three of his four rounds. With minimal ownership coming his way on both DraftKings and FanDuel according to Stokastic’s Top Golfers Tool, Garnett is a fantastic cheap gamble for GPPs.
