It will certainly be a new format for PGA DFS, and with new formats comes an edge to those willing to put in the time. DraftKings & FanDuel PGA DFS Picks: The Zurich Classic

In 2017, the Zurich Classic felt they needed a way to draw more top talent to their event, and the way to do that was to introduce a team format for the event. Now, there are some downfalls with this, as no OWGR points are allocated, but FedEx Cup points and prize money are. It was actually here back in 2016 where a rainy 54-hole event got me my first-ever big PGA DFS score. And for the first time in five years, I’ll get to try it again.

The Course: TPC at Louisiana

While famous golf course designers are few and far between these days, seeing names multiple times isn’t really that uncommon. They all have their style, and sometimes a person’s game fits with a certain architect. Well, those that fit well with Peter Dye courses will get another crack at it this week. The club opened just about 20 years ago and has been hosting the Zurich Classic since it opened. It was designed in mind to be an annual tour stop. That is one thing Dye does so well, giving sightlines to fans that many others don’t care to think about. This course is a par 72 that measures 7,425 yards, similar in nature to its sister property in Ponte Vedra. It also features plenty of hazards along the trail, as the course is surrounded by the native area that defines the New Orleans landscape.

Course Facts and Figures

Par and Yardage

  • Par-72: 7,425

Course Difficulty

  • It is hard to truly understand how hard or easy the course is given that it is a two-man team format with only one score being used out of two golfers for half of the rounds played. The winning score for this event has averaged around 24 under par, if that helps any.

Hole Dispersion

  • Four par 3’s: 221, 208, 216, 215
  • 10 par 4’s: 399, 432, 438, 476, 561, 372, 207, 390, 492, 403, 490, 355
  • Four par 5’s: 548, 561, 575, 585

The Zurich Classic PGA DFS Slate Preview

This is a new format and there is no historical data to go off of, but DraftKings put up a pretty nice slate of offerings.

The Zurich Classic Team & Player Preview:

The best golfer in the world is one of the best and most subjective questions in all of sports. The official way it’s done is, of course, through the Official World Golf Ranking. But there are plenty of flaws in that system, so we here at Awesemo came up with our own set of rankings called the “Unofficial World Golf Rankings.” It takes into account strokes gained data and other data compiled over the last 18 months and ranks players from No. 1 to No. 300. Check out the full “Unofficial World Golf Rankings” FREE. For this next graphic, I have listed the top 20 teams based on their total Awesemo UWGR.

The team of Justin Suh and Doug Ghim stands out the most, as the unofficial ranking on both of these players is far and away better than their combined Official World Golf Ranking. The reason something like this can happen is sample size and the structure of how golfers gain OWGR points. A couple of other interesting teams include Josh Teater and Sepp Straka, Cameron Champ and Tony Finau and Brendan Steele with Keegan Bradley.
